Looks pretty interesting from this short trailer! Big fan of the Mario 64 penguins making an appearance.

Mario Chat / how many Super Mario games are there?

Interesting video I found about what games people see as being in the "Super Mario" series, what games are seen as edge cases, and what games decidedly aren't:

<a href="" target="_blank"></a>

Thoughts on this? What games would you consider part of the series?

Personally, I think I agree with the 18 game list for the most part, but I think I would rather the most definitive version of each game be considered as the game rather than the original release. This only really matters for NSMBU, 3D World, and 64 at the moment, and the "definitive version" is more debatable in the case of 64 DS. And I guess in that case, I'd consider 64 DS as its own entry since it has a significant amount of new content and there's things holding it back (namely, the graphics and controls) from being the definitive version of Super Mario 64.

Oops, I guess you're right!  And spoilers inside a code tag aren't gonna fare any better.

Anyway, here's a code:

Hint:  It's a sort of code.

Yeah, you could say that.

How I solved it:
Each line is a letter. Each > is a press on the right arrow key. Each V means to press that letter. Each < means to go back to the beginning of the line. - means to skip the line.

I'll post the next code when I think of something really good. It'll probably take less than 5 years to solve, though...

If you want to go with basically no input lag on an LCD., you basically have 3 options.

  • Emulate. It won't be a fully authentic experience and you 'll need adapters in order to use your original controllers, but this is the easiest way to play with little to no input lag with old console games.
  • Pull out your old CRT and have it dedicated to old consoles.
  • Get ahold of an external upscaler designed for retro gaming. These things are a bit cost prohibitive, but well renowned by enthusiasts.

You don't need an account to start, but you need one to claim your username

I'd say it's more of the future of the chatroom than anything... The discord is great for short discussions, but I don't think it can replace the forum and site's easily accessible and searchable discussions and information.

So this is the RPG that's been leaked several times in concept only. The gameplay actually looks pretty solid, however I can't say I'm not slightly bothered by the crossover between one of the greatest gaming franchises and the Minions of video games.

Something interesting I noticed: When Mario jumps in the soup and gets burned, you can hear the sound of a health bar being lost. I'm pretty sure this means that the game won't have the classic powerup system.

Also, relevant thread on HD mario

Interestingly enough, you can see some DKC references showing up in the street names of the city level. (which appears to be named "New Donk City") I wonder if that'll actually mean anything or if it's just there to be there. I could totally see a boss battle against Donkey/Cranky Kong there involving jumping over barrels.
