Stanley was made to take the bullet instead of Mario if Donkey Kong 3 sucked. And it did, so he took the bullet. We're all thankful he's dead and not Mario.

Seeing him in Smash Bros. as an Assist is more likely than anything else these days, though it would be funny to see him make a background cameo in a future Mario game or something.

EDIT: Wait, I thought the reason DK3 tanked was because Mario wasn't in it! What gives?

No, DK3 tanked because it sucked. Stanley's sole purpose was to keep Mario from being ruined if the game sucked.

Not that I know of. For the record, I liked it too. Saying the game tanked because you don't like it (this means you, Jim) is ridiculous.

A) Melee didn't suck before Brawl was released.

B) It's not Stanley's presence, it's the lack of Mario's presence. This is why people tend to hate on Wario's Woods and Mario is Missing.
