Basically, take five or so people, related in some way, and make 'em into a band.

Mario = Lead vocals/lead guitar
Luigi = Backup vocals/bass
Toad = Rhythm guitar
Peach = Keyboards
Bowser = Drums

Now it's your turn!

On a somewhat serious note, I can picture the Koopalings as a band:

Larry: Lead guitar
Morton: Bass
Wendy: Lead vocals/tambourines
Iggy: Rhythm guitar
Roy: Drums
Lemmy: Xylophone (he's not really part of the band)
Ludwig: Keyboard

I wasn't exactly trying to match the people they were named for. Lemmy is obviously a clown, and it makes perfect sense for a clown to play the xylophone.
