I bet it's a REALLY rare question to be asked, as most Westerns don't care how the video game market is handled in the Middle East, and "TRUE" gamers are extremely rare in the Middle East itself!!

I just hate the video game market here!! Hardly anyone knows what is a great game!!

Here's a likely conversation you'd have with an "over average" gamer from the Middle East:

AG is anyone from this forum. Let's assume it's me.
AME is the Middle Eastern sorta gamer.

AG: So, what're been playing lately?
AME: Well, I've been having a few rounds with my mates in Counter-Strike (LAN mode), and I guess I've been having a lot of fun playing GTA and Need for Speed on my own. I did open a new session with Fifa too!
(Note: In the Middle East, it is a "fashion" to play very violent games and sports games. It is also a common sight to see VERY YOUNG kiddies playing Counter-Strike as well!...)
Oh and I did also purchase some twenty games this week (Software piracy is very common in the region! Why? 'Cause no one cares for video games!) for my PlayStation (The FIRST one, not the second! It's still pretty much at large!).
AG: So, have you been playing any Mario games?
AME: Er... those games are very old! I have to dig up my old system (NOT a NES!! Most likely another 8-bit but pirate machine!) and my old GameBoy to play them again, but I don't care anymore. I think I ought to throw them away someday (To most of them, any old hardware is just "one of those things from the past to be discarded off"!!)
AG: I was talking about the new games!
AME: New games!?
AG: Yeah!
AME: Since when were there any new games!?
AG: Well, one was released just this month! (Reference to Super Princess Peach - technically a Super Mario game!)
AME: Oh? Is it on the PC or PlayStation 2?
AG: Neither.
AME: Oh, then it should be! Why not?
AG: Because Mario belongs to Nintendo?
AME: But I thought Nintendo stopped making games! (Believe it, or not?)
AG: No, they are still making games! They are making 3-D games as well!
AME: Like on the PlayStation?
AG: Yes!
AME: How come I have not seen any 3-D Mario game on the PlayStation then? (This person is thinking "GameBoy Advance" as an ONLY Nintendo console!)
AG: Because they can't put them on the PlayStation! Mario belongs to Nintendo, and Nintendo only puts their 3-D games on Nintendo consoles like the GameCube!
AME: What's a Game-Cube? (Believe it, or not?)
AG: It's Nintendo's own console! I just told you that!
AME: Really? Is it new?
AG: Actually, it's been out since 2001!
AME: 2001? Ah well, I don't care for Mario anyway. He's short and fat, and he has a stupid big moustache! (Just like I said. Video games are nothing but "fashion" to most people!)
AG: But he's a classic!
AME: Meh! I think the greatest games are those that come with great graphics and great sounds! ("Fashion" is the only philosophy!)
AG: Don't you like the Legend of Zelda then?
AME: What is that?
AG: It's a great video game series!
AME: But I haven't heard of it, so it can't be all that great. (More stupid philosophies!)
AG: But it's an amazing series I tell you!
AME: Okay. What is it about?
AG: Well, it is about this great land where a big pig-like monster called Ganon conquers it, and then this boy dressed in green goes to find a sword, and saves the land!
AME: Ewww!! I don't like fantasy games!! ("Fashion", people! "Fashion"!)
AG: But it's great!
AME: I don't care.
AG: You just don't care about anything?
AME: Of course, they are nothing but games. (This part burns me up!)
AG: Then I think there's no point in talking with you any further! Good-bye!
AME: Good bye!

Since the Middle East is a society that depends more on popular opinion than marketing, most video game players would go after what their friends tell them are the greatest games! Notably, the "fashionable" ones! Video games in the Middle East did not get recognised until the very late 1980s! Most people at the time only knew the old Atari consoles! Later, they all went with the SEGA Genesis/Mega Drive, and then came the PlayStation, and everyone went crazy for it! Today, it is said that there is nothing better than the PlayStation 2! The only alternative is X-Box!
Granted, the PlayStation 2 is more popular in the West anyway, but over here, they don't even know the MOST IMPORTANT names in video gaming! To most people, life in video games is extremely limited!! They have no idea what the future is like either! Some people said that the PlayStation 3 is already out! SAY WHAT?! Where the heck do they get their info? I have no idea! But I personally sure know how to get my own info, and they come from the best sources too!

Anyways, as far as I can see, the best place to know about video games is in the U.A.E.! Why? Because it is home to the biggest video game distributer in the Middle East - Geekay Games.
But even that company isn't "all that great"! Granted, they do good marketing, and they know their games very well. However, when I visited their shops, it seems all their stocks are highly limited! If I asked for simply older games, they claim they are not available anymore!
They are not completely honest with their products either, as they have a lot of pirated accesories, and not to mention a great library of pirated GameBoy software! I mean, check out their website alone!
Besides, whereever you actually do buy some or any games, all original copies are regarded as imports, and they all are as expensive as heck! Maybe around fifty to seventy dollars more than the original retail prices in the Western countries, where there are OFFICES for all these companies!

So, I was wondering. Do you suppose if Nintendo officially did open some offices in the Arab World, where they'll distribute games their own way and handle better marketing over here, do you think that the days of the video game market in the Middle East may see some light finally!?

I'm getting sick and tired of this! I mean, I can't even seem to be able to open any account on any official Nintendo website!! I used to have an account on the U.S. official website, but Nintendo changed their policies, and suddenly my account became void! Sheesh!
Such a hard luck to have very few, almost NONE in fact, real life friends who would love Super Mario games as much as you do...
They're extremely hard to find, and now you know why!

Mario Chat / Re: What happened to the Game & Watch?
« on: October 04, 2004, 08:04:34 AM »
Whatever for?
The technology is just too advanced to make those things again...
I doubt anyone would still buy them...

You had to buy whole new systems if you wanted to play different games...

Anyways, why need the Game & Watch themselves when you can still play the games on the GameBoy systems with the Game & Watch Gallery series?...

Video Game Chat / Twilight Princess Discussion
« on: June 08, 2005, 08:33:11 AM »
Man! The next Legend of Zelda is one big Nintendo thing that is coming soon, and yet I'm surprised, even shocked, to see no one opened a thread specially for the game!!

Well, I just did it now, so let's talk Twilight Princess!

Okay, let's first circulate around the new dark charcater Midna, who we believe is the Twilight Princess.

Some people believe that she is an evil creature, yet she's gone out and is helping Link in his quest whenever he is in his wolf form.

Can anyone tell why?

Mario Chat / 128 becomes 256!
« on: June 07, 2005, 12:27:52 PM »
Nintendo had made a decision now.

As long as it seems that the next Legend of Zelda game is the one of great anticipation for the majority, and Miyamoto's paranoia of 'competition theft' since the next super secret Super Mario was supposedly a highly innovative game in itself, Nintendo had suddenly decided to switch over the production of this game over as the flag title for Codename 'Revolution'!!

Ah well, I guess the 'super secret' game may fare out better on Nintendo's next console than the GameCube, which is now nearing the end of it's life cycle anyways.

But I guess we should now call the game Super Mario 256, or maybe even Super Mario Revolution!

Video Game Chat / The Hedgehog Returneth!!
« on: March 09, 2005, 10:58:26 AM »
No! I'm not speaking about everyone's favourite speedy, blue hedgehog...

But rather - everyone's favourite mysterious, black/red hedgehog!! SHADOW!!

Finally!! SEGA had announced that on unspecified formats (more likely the GameCube, PlayStation 2, and the X-Box) there will come a brand new Sonic game dedicated to the one and only Shadow the Hedgehog!!

The game is tentatively titled Sonic the Hedgehog 3: Shadow the Hedgehog!

You now take the role of Shadow ALONE!! Battle through several action-packed levels in order to discover more about his past!! What is Shadow? A hero? An anti-hero? Or a villian?

This is what the game is probably all about since there aren't many details on it yet...

Check out IGN's release of an amazing Shadowy trailer released by SEGA of America, Inc. - to see it, click here!!

Site Discussion / Oekaki Board: Why Not?
« on: October 25, 2004, 10:46:41 AM »
Does anyone on this website want to consider of finally getting an Oekaki Board for The Mushroom Kingdom?

Those things are loads of fun for those who love Japanese-type internet stuff...

Or is an idea of an Oekaki a bit too pricy?

It would be so cool anyways...

Mario Chat / Nintendo Why?: B to A; A to B
« on: October 19, 2004, 10:10:28 AM »
Way back in 1985, Nintendo finally released in the United States the Nintendo Entertainment System, with its flag title being Super Mario Bro.s, the sequel to the successful arcade game - Mario Bro.s - which was released a few years before.

As we all know, the object of the game is to travel through monster-infested worlds of a kingdom called the Mushroom Kingdom, and try to defeat in the end a giant turtle called Bowser, and rescue the princess of this kingdom called Princess Toadstool.

In order to advance in this game, we need to perform an action called 'Jump', and we need to press the 'B Button' on the Nintendo Entertainment System's [official] D-pad controller in order to actually perform it. Any other action necessary, in this case, shooting out Fire Balls after gaining a Fire Flower, we need to press the 'A Button'.

Nintendo then releases more of Super Mario's adventures as games, and although we could perform more actions in later games, the basics stayed the same, with the same buttons: 'B' is for jumping and other motion performances, while 'A' worked with extra performances.

However, it was not until 1996-1997 when the Nintendo 64 has finally been released with its flag title being Super Mario 64 that I received a somewhat MAJOR surprise! I need to press the 'B Button' to perform a non-motional action, while I had to press the 'A Button' to jump and perform other motional performances!?

What the heck has happened here!?

As other Super Mario games have been released after that, I realised that it was the very same story with all of them!!

At first, I thought, It must be a Nintendo 64 thing?

But then came the GameBoy Advance, and later came the GameCube.

What the heck!? Mario still jumps when pressing the 'A Button'!?

I've checked Nintendo's other game series, and none of them received this button change like the Super Mario series had!!

I know the button change had happened long ago, and we all got used to the idea, technically speaking.

But still to this day I wonder why had Nintendo broke the tradition of jumping with the 'B Button', and swapped it with the 'A Button'...

So let's discuss:

Why did Nintendo change the jumping 'B' to 'A' and vice-versa in our Super Mario games!?

*************

By the way, although you can jump with the 'B Button' in Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga, that does not count. Come on! You are controlling two different characters at the same time, there should be another button to use after 'A'!!

Mario Chat / Your Definition of the Term 'Nerd'...
« on: June 17, 2004, 09:28:58 AM »
Before you go on and say that this belongs in the 'General Chat' Forum...

Let me explain...

Most people would consider nerds a group of particular people who knows quite a lot of some specific stuff...

In fact, some nerds will answer you very accurately when ask them about those stuff...

Nerds and geeks are different, geeks tend to know more in general knowledge and science...

Nerds usually go towards artistic and entertainment stuff...

This is where the Super Mario-ism comes in...

What is your defenition of a Super Mario nerd?

Do you believe a Super Mario nerd ought to know everything single detail in every single game? Like the question of: How many blocks in World 1-2 of Super Mario Bro.s will produce coins?

Or do you believe that a Super Mario nerd would know about about the games in general and create theories that help explain the whole system of how the whole story goes...

Like what have you figured about the Mushroom Kingdom after playing Paper Mario?

Would you consider Deezer to be a nerd?

Would you consider yourselves to be nerds?

(Would you consider me as a nerd? :P)

Let's consider what's the deal with all this Super Mario nerdiness...

IGN has revealled lately that Nintendo Co., Ltd. has made several new registrations of mysterious trademarks again...

And this time, these registrations are more mysterious than the ones made before...

In fact, one of these registrations is Super Mario-themed, and you'll be very much surprised to know it how-themed-in-what-sense!!
