I agree! ^_^ WITH NUNYA!!!!! \_/ They got Mario from Segali, but what's next door to the Nintendo company is the story! Luigi's name was from a Pizza Place called Luigi Mario's!

Resurrection! BWAHA BURP! (scuse me!) ~If this is against the rules, tell me and I'll stop.

I think so, it tends to be the stereotypical Italian name, when you think of Italian names, Luigi tend to be one of the first to jump to mind (exculding any Mario relation).

Actually, there's a pizza place near here and the owner's name is Luigi. How come I've never thought about that.
You just wasted previous seconds of your life if you read this signature which doesn't really contain anything interesting.

I thought I read somewhere that in Japan the pronunciation of Luigi is "Ruiji", which is the Japanese word for "similar". That, added to the things mentioned before, may have had to do with the naming of Luigi. (After all, he was first just a recoloring of Mario, so he was certainly similar to him.)

I bet Nintendo were very lazy during the production of Mario Bros. way back when...

I think it had more to do with hardware limitations in the 80's than lazyness.

Um, yeah. They needed another generic Italian name that was five letters long.

"Don’t look into car headlights and freeze, because you might get run over or shot."
That was a joke.

I agree, Chupperson Weird. But Waluigi-- what on Earth were they thinking???

Actually, I saw a Mario War game on floppy disks, and it had a screen shot. It used the Mario Bros Battle (In the SMA games) Mario graphics, and Wario was named Fabio. Actually, that would have been better than Wario!

Warui (Japanese for "bad") + Ruigi (Japanese for Luigi) = Waruigi (Waluigi).

Seriously now, it's not that hard to write out "Japanese," is it?
Also, it is said to come from Ijiwaru, meaning something along the lines of bad-tempered, I believe.
