Author Topic: Where in the Mario World is that 96th Goal?  (Read 10744 times)

« on: May 20, 2002, 01:55:51 AM »
I literally searched EVERYWHERE!

I even checked the SMW FAQ page with each level and what worlds they lead to.
http://www.classicgaming.com/tmk/smw_guide.shtml

But I can't find it! I beat the game through both the Front door AND the Back door.Got every path in the game. Beat the entire Special world. But no avail!

I got the Top Secret area, all four ! blocks, NOWHERE to be found!

I still only have 95 goals!

in the valley of bowser, have you connected the 8th castle to the one below it?

Yeah, I got that one. As I said, I got the Back Door as well as the front. Since you need to beat the fortress to get to it.

I have looked ALL OVER for it.

The only thing I can think of is it's hidden somewhere where the level goal backtracks BACK to the levbel you came from. Like in the Forrest of Illusion where the Ghost House goes back to the first Forest level even though you came from there. But I got that one.

I think he meant the one that connects the valley ghost house to the 8th castle.  That's an easy one to overlook.

No, I got that one. And that's actually the 7th castle. Bowser is the 8th. I got all paths in Bowsers Valley.

This is likely the most asked question on these boards... but I think I MAY be able to help.

Anyway, the 6 most commonly missed goals are Forest Ghost House to Forest of Illusion 1, and the 5 NORMAL Star world goals. (I.e, Star world 1- Star Road 1, SW2-SR2, etc.).

Try those. If you STILL don't have the 96th goal... tell me, ok?

Well, that's all I can think of. I am going to try to get all five Star Road regular "Nowhere" exits. Maybe I missed one in the excitement all those years ago... I hopoe that's it.

Darn it! I beat every Star World's real and fake exit. All 10. No go still. This is crazy! It's gotta be there somewhere.

Wow, Ummmmmm.... You make sure to get EVERY area in the Forest of Illusion? It SHOULD look like a cirle with a cross in it when you are done.

Oh, yes. I got that easily. Even the exit to the fortress and the "Return to sender" exit in the Ghost House.

I even went through the entire list of exits. Got them all. What can I be missing??

Well, you beat every exit that a lot of ppl miss.... and you don't get points for beating Boswer's Castle (The game doesn't svae it, remember?) so I guess... hmmmm try these somewhat often missed exits.

Donut Secret 1 - Donut Ghost House
Chocolate Island 3 - Chocolate Island 3
Valley of Bowser 4 - Star Road 5

Ummmm if you are only missing one, those are all I can think of. If you are STILL missing one, It is an obvious one that is sneaking by you due to the fact that both of us are looking for hard ones... (You got the Top Secret Area, right?)

I got all those.

I already mentioned the Choco one where it circles back.

Obviously I got the Donut one or I'd have only 92 or 93 goals (Since I'd miss the underground Donut secret one as well as the two house exits.)

I got the Bowser one as well.

As well as the Top Secret area.

I even checked the obvious ones since I figured that would be it. Where could it be?

Still no luck?
I don't know if this'll help you any further, but I stuck together a map of dinosaur world at 96 goals:
http://www11.brinkster.com/yoshisan/images/smw_map.gif

... and you are remembering to save after each attempt, right?  The 96th goal will do no good if it's never recorded...

You know what? I don't think I saved after some of those last few times. D'OH!

I forgot and assumed it did it by itself. Well. I guess I'll try tomorrow again.

BTW, My map looks like that. I'll try the Star road again tomorrow as well as some others I did today without saving.

BTW, when you get the 96th goal, is there a way to tell without resetting? And when you do get them, does anything change?

Ya, you have to play a level that saves (Donut Ghost House is a good one) And I bet it is thus one of the Normal Star Road exits. I mean, I played through the game today from empty file to 96 goal game... (Took bout 2 1/4 hours) Those make the most sense, as other exits change the landscape a little.

YES! w00t! w00t!

Finally! It was one of the Star exits (Prolly the first world as it's the one I would have skipped having known where the secret exit was.) and I finally got it!

Thanks guys!

Well, now that I found Goal 96, is there something I should look for? Does anything happen? Or is it just a "Satisfaction" thing? Because I am finally satisfied that I got 100% out of my first SNES game.

Yep. I knew it was one of those all along. Good job!

Well, It is really just a satisfaction thing, but it is nice when you finally get it. I have played that game to the point (I mean for a loooooooong time) where I got 96 goals in ONE SITTING (empty file to 96 goals) and when I did it yesterday to see if I missed anything for your game (only the 2nd time though) and I didn't die until Valley of Bowser 2 (I got every goal in all the other 6 worlds) and it was in that cheapo sliding block area (you all know what I am talking about) but I had already gotten 1 exit. I think I got 70 of the exits or so without dying.

Well done!

Well, even if I could get through the first 6 worlds without dying, I'd die many times when I reach the Special World. That darn forrest level gets me so much. Maybe I'll try it one day.

Well, I died a total of 5 times. 4 times in Valley of Bowser levels (Surprisingly, NOT in Valley Fortress... that is the one level I die in a lot. Plus, after the first one I completely lost my focus and made several stupid errors in later levels.) and once in Awesome after discovering I couldn't fly over the second half of the level. (D'oh!, I was in a hurry...)

And a challenge for you:

There is a level in SMW where there is (or potentally can be) a pipe that is 2/3 orange and 1/3 green. Name it.

Well, you obviously read the TMK site... ah well

My trivia forte is SMW2, not the original...

You know if it is possible to get the Valley of Bowser 4 key exit without Yoshi? Someone on the boards claims to be able to beat the game in all 96 goal without Yoshi, but I doubt that goal is achievable under those conditions.

That would be me. Isn't that key trapped in walls that only Yoshi can grab with his tongue. If it is, then D*MN IT, YOSHI!

Heh. Did you know if you eat a "Digger Chuck's" rock, it'll give you a non-point value coin? Guess it's good if you're dying and need a few coins to get a new life.. Or something.

Oh, and BTW. You DO need Yoshi to get that key in Valley 4. Right before the end goal is a little boxed in key and a keyhole. oh well.

Don't blame Yoshi, blame Bowser for designing his underworld like that.

I think, if my observations on ppl who are missing a goal are correct, the 2 most COMMONLY missed goals in SMW are Star World 1 and Star World 4's normal exits. Just my thoughts, though that may not be accurate...
But I say they are the most commonly missed...

And here's a trivia you WON'T find on the TMK site... I don't think...

What level has the most free 1-up MUSHROOMS, and how many does it have?

It is likely star world 4, because its not difficult and by the time you reach it, you know you gotta get the key, not the normal exit, so ppl will forget about the normal exit.

Hmm.. Most 1 ups. Well, I know that the Donut Ghost House has 4 in the secret exit room.

That's all I can think of, unless you count one of the "Infinite 1up" sections.

Or maybe that grassy level above the Vanilla Dome that has a P switch and all the spiny's and turtles. I think there's a lot of 1ups if you use the switch in the right place.

Well, aren't ALL 1up mushrooms free? I've never seen a coin activated ? block.

Well, I give up. I don't know. So there's a level with more than 4?

Hmm... How about levels where you use a door to go back and forth resetting a block? Then you get the same one over and over? Do they count?
