Good afternoon Fungi Forums. I came across this footage of Super Mario Kart in a Japanese promotional laserdisc I've had for a while now and it was only a week ago or so that I finally decided to upload the footage online and share it to the internet. If you're interested, please give it a look.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rFTR4Z1kN6M

In this brief interview, taking place sometime in late-1992,* SMK sound composer Taro Bando and GTV host Koji Watanabe discuss the just-released Super Mario Kart for Super Famicom. I do not have subtitles for this interview yet, but if SMK is as popular as I think it is maybe someone (here) will come along and provide a translation.

*According to this site, the release date for this LD was on 12/21/1992.

I also like to take this opportunity to advertise my gaming blog I call The Game Informant, a gaming blog where I post about gaming niches, trivia, fun memes, and other bits of interest, among other off-topic subjects. I have more blog posts were that came from (recently I've posted about VHS gaming promo tapes, and Japanese magazines that I've been scanning lately. Of course, I will explore other subjects in gaming in the near future) and I hope more people come to visit my blog and follow.

Early beta footage of the first Mother game, and it's now English subbed! Thanks to GlitterBerri for the translation! Subbed by yours truly, too!

Originally found on Nico Nico Douga titled, ファミマガ Video 【 1989年 5月号 (2/2) 】 (literally Famimaga Video May 1989), I stumbled upon this interesting Mother footage while searching for media on Mother 3 for Shat-Canned Legends. Same as the SMB3 footage.

The video shows the various differences of this prerelease version to the final version that my annotations go over. While there isn't anything hugely major to show, the path from Ninten's house looks to be mirrored, some game menu details are different, and the O on 0:07 is at the lower right corner of the title!

Very interesting stuff, especially upon seeing that these 80's Japanese game videos are from a completely different, simpler era. Innocent too.

Original URL. Because I don't want to take all the credit for this, as the video was originally uploaded and found on Nico Nico Douga. =)

Enjoy the contents.

Video Game Chat / RUMOR: Mega Man Legends 3 is still possible

RUMOR: Mega Man Legends 3 is still possible
But you still can make it happen.

In case you are not aware, the once-anticipated Nintendo 3DS game Mega Man Legends 3, a Mega Man game eleven years in the waiting, had recently been canceled by Capcom. Having been announced in early September of last year, Capcom created a 'DevRoom' for fans of Mega Man in general and the public, where they could all come together and contribute to the development as the game as part of the development team. Capcom had actually offered them an inside look at everything in the business and process of game development. Fans and the gaming public were offered a look into the process that few ever are, and were even allowed to create and submit content to the game that was accepted and would be integrated into the game

Capcom had assured fans and the public a "Prototype Version' of the game, that was going to be put onto the Nintendo eShop to gauge interest in the game and determine whether Capcom would continue working on it. On July 18, the game had been cancelled, leaving the fanbase devastated in disbelief. Capcom didn't even give the prototype a chance.

"David" of the 100,000 Strong for Bringing Back Mega Man Legends 3 Campaign has reported that a Facebook user by the name of "Zeri P Bishop," had supposedly received information from a source within Capcom of possibly reviving the MML3 project. According to Zeri P Bishop, fans may actually still bring back Mega Man Legends 3 into development. The message posted here has been edited by me, for it is essentially instructions to help get the game back in development, and clarity and understanding is essential. For the Zeri's original post, see here.

Quote
"When MML3 was canceled and the Japan DevRoom sealed off, the development team for MML3 made them keep the North American DevRoom open in order to try and gain enough members worldwide in order to continue Development.

Here's the OFFICIAL problem:

Capcom looked at the number of members registered in the MML3 DevRoom as the official number of units they could anticipate to sell if they green-lighted the title for Full Development. The game was never authorized for full time development because the numbers in North America were less than 4500. Which with development costs it was deemed Financially Unacceptable to release the title.

HOWEVER, The DevTeam convinced them to leave the North American Development Room on Capcom-Unity open in an effort to try and generate enough members to change their minds. Also inside the DevRoom is the Official Petition to release the prototype of the game and continue development of the game on a FULL SCALE.

In order to do this however we need your help to spread the word out to your 25,000+ people to do two things. (The instructions have been edited for the easiest way to do this via Facebook.)

Come on show them that you care and want them to make MML3. Become a Servbot! DON'T JUST CLICK "LIKE" ON FACEBOOK!

1) Click this Link.
2) Click Register
3) Click Facebook
4) Fill out birth date
5) Click Accept
6) Click the Green Plus Mark that will add you to the DevRoom
7) Then the box above it "Become a Servbot."

The numbers here were why it (Mega Man Legends 3) was originally canceled.

After you join the Dev Room as a Servbot you are then permitted to sign the ONLY Capcom recognized Petition for Mega Man Legends 3 here.

If you can get your 25,000+ people to all bring up the official headcount in support of the game and sign the petition to bring back the prototype. Capcom will be forced to see the game as profitable again netting in over 5 times the original projected profit and if you can reach your goal of 100,000 as well while getting them to do this the game will have a projected profit of over 20 times the original projections.

Convincing Capcom there is money to be made is one of the fastest ways to get them to green-light the project. This was said by the development team for the game itself.

Please help.
Legends Never Die.
"

Before you all explode with excitement or scoff it if, this Zeri person's post should be taken with a grain of salt, as he does not explain who told him the prerequisites. However, taking Zeri's suggestion would result nothing lost, other than two-to-three minutes of your time. =)

For those of you wondering, The 100,000 Strong for Bringing Back Mega Man Legends 3 Campaign, otherwise known as Get Me Off The Moon, is not a petition but a campaign hub aiming for one hundred thousand individuals to join them in an effort to convince Capcom to resume development of the 3DS game. It has already achieved 1/3 of it's goal so far. You can be a part of the campaign by just simply clicking on the URL, log into Facebook, click on "Like" on the lower left side of the page. Participation would certainly be appreciated and welcomed. It would be dreadful to see all that hard work made by the development team for the game, go to waste.

http://twitter.com/PG_kamiya/status/24820780249

Hideki Kamiya is a former employee of Capcom, responsible for Resident Evil 2, Devil May Cry (The first one), Viewtiful Joe, Okami, Bayonetta (he was one of the Clover Studios members that left). He posted this on his Twitter recently. It's known that he still is in touch with some of his old co-workers at Capcom, including Mega Man Legends series, Mega Man Zero series, and Dead Rising director Yoshinori Kawano .

When I got my reply back from Kamiya-san (I am OKeijiDragon BTW, the one who asked him about DASH), I was perplexed. I was like "HOLY [dukar]".

Plus around that same time, he posted a picture of him and Kawano san at the TGS that's happening right now. I thought the timing was interesting too. He also said to believe in Kawano-san.

Wonder what all this means?

Video Game Chat / Resident Evil 2 - Nintendo 64 version
« on: July 26, 2010, 02:00:44 AM »
So about four months ago, I got Resident Evil 2 - N64 version for dirt cheap at eBay for $4.25, and so far I feel that I've got my money's worth.

Recently, I thought that I might as well record myself playing through it and offer my commentary on ii just for the heck of it in the best possible quality presented, with the Expansion Pak and recorded through S-Video!

In this playthrough, I went though the game on the Claire A / Leon B scenario with both A ranking, no spray-cans, no saving, with a time of "03:03:30" & "03:43:57", respectfully, with some of the N64 options turned on. In this same run, I happened to unlock 4th Survivor. There is however, a chance that I'll redo the entire Leon B scenario again from the ground up for time, integrity, and quality purposes.

I understand that there exist a LOT of Resident Evil 2 playthroughs and videos, but at the same time there's not a lot of good quality videos of the N64 version. I'm adding commentary to this video run. Not vocal commentary (thank god for us all), but more like annotations that will consist of nerd trivia, jokes, personal reflection on certain parts, pointing out oddities, opinions, and more! If you are interested, rate my vids and subscribe! Also, PEMNAS stands for "PLEASE EXCUSE MY NOOB ASS SKILLS". I invented the term myself.

So far I've already completed the Claire A scenario of my run, but I have plans to start the Leon B scenario.
For now, I'd like to present parts starting from Part 0 through Part 19!

Claire A Finished:
Part 0 - Leon A - Opening + Leon A Failure
Part 1 - Restart: Claire A - The Terror Begins + Robert Kendo
Part 2 - Claire A - Marvin Branagh & Licker
Part 3 - Claire A - Brad & the Special Key
Part 4 - Claire A - Library + Outdoors
Part 5 - Claire A - Herbs Are Awesome
Part 6 - Claire A - N64 Costume + Marvin Dies
Part 7 - Claire A - Chief Irons + Sherry Birkin
Part 8 - Claire A - Sherry's Adventure
Part 9 - Claire A - The Press Room
Part 10 - Claire A - Death of the Psycho
Part 11 - Claire A - Penis-Headed Monster
Part 12 - Claire A - Raccoon City Sewage
Part 13 - Claire A - Annette Birkin + Giant Ass Alligator
Part 14 - Claire A - The Marshalling Yard + Factory
Part 15 - Claire A - G-Birkin Battle + Underground Laboratory
Part 16 - Claire A - G-Vaccine + Annette's Fate
Part 17 - Claire A - Escape From Laboratory with G-Vaccine
Part 18 - Claire A - Third Malformation Of G
Part 19 - Claire A Finale + Credits + Special Note From Me

COMPLETE!

Leon B:
Coming Soon! REAL SOON.

--Now about the N64 version--

The Nintendo 64 version is known for, at the time, its technological breakthrough in inserting two 600+MB PlayStation CDs worth of (redundant) data in a 512Mbit/64MB cartridge. This port, done by Angel Studios, also features some additional exclusive content, including a new control scheme (dubbed "First Person Controls") an "Item Randomizer", a Violence Adjuster, and Blood Color Adjuster. But of course, for the last two you would always want the maximum amount of violence and pure red blood in any horror game, right? Other features include new costumes made by Angel Studios, the developer that ported RE2 to N64 alongside Capcom, and the new, detailed EX Files.

The graphics actually look somewhat better than the PS version, there is very little clipping on the character models and they're smooth and feature no blocky-ness. Unlike the Saturn port of RE1, Capcom didn't sacrifice the character models much to work with Nintendo 64. The SAT version had some ugly models, IMO.

Anyone have a copy of this game? I think this is overall the best port of the game I've played yet. I wanted to get the GameCube port, but 1) It's overpriced a bit 2) It doesn't have the features that the N64 version has 3) The controls for that port kinda suck from what I read.

Anyways, I will be updating this thread whenever I get more videos and commentary done. Stay Tuned!

Alternatively, here: http://www.capcom-unity.com/go/suggestion/box

You people want a Mega Man Legends 3 like I do? Or a Power Stone 3? Resident Evil Outbreak File 3? Marvel VS. Capcom 3? You all better go tell them was'sup, because this is probably the most direct opportunity to tell them what you want, ever.

You all better speak up if you want Capcom to make a new Power Stone or Mega Man game, otherwise not participating will mean you surrendering your right to ***** about anything to them.

GoldenEye 007 for the Nintendo 64, based on the 1995 James Bond film of the same name, is what I would call the first-person shooter console game that I've ever gave a crap about in my life. It was also the first FPS game I've played. To be honest, I've never played another FPS game after GoldenEye (except perhaps playing a little of Perfect Dark for N64, the spiritual sequel to GoldenEye, but I'll get to that later). Mostly because I don't have the console for the FPS game that I'm interested in playing (speaking about Halo and Half-Life, iirc both for the Xbox brand, I hear those are awesome), and/or that the video game market is so flooded with the "me-too" FPS games that I'd stop caring about them entirely (Not quite sure if that last part made sense).

But, at least to me, there's something about GoldenEye that stands out from many games. For some reason, at least for me, it actually made sense to put Bond into a first-person perspective of the player, run around blowing and shooting crap up and causing complete chaos and utter mayhem while completing your assigned objectives mostly based on sequences from the film.

I had a blast in some of the levels, especially the ones where you have to save Natalya several times from the enemies, my most favorite of all is the Train level, where you inside one and you get to shoot the living shuck out of the soldiers while hiding behind the wooden crates and -- I swear I was/am intrigued at how much destruction you can cause in this particular level with explosive weapon cheats on -- raising hell from start to finish.

At the end of the train level, you encounter Natalya taken hostage by Alec Trevelyan's henchman, and you are confronted with a deadly, yet easy decision: Stop for the mission, or Natalya dies. Some of you would probably just do both them and you a favor and shoot the dumb broad for all the stupid mission failures that resulted from her deaths of stupidity (and sometimes hilarity) just cause she got in you gun's way or for running into an explosion or crossfire. But in order to advance, you had to save her, and that was mandatory. So you shoot the henchman (Ourumov), and if you're good enough, shoot both that witch in the black clothing (Xenia) and that stiff-ass Brit (Alec) for their [bundle of sticks]gotry against the British government. Once you free Natalya, the doors suddenly become sealed, trapping you inside the room and now that ******* has placed a bomb inside the train which will be set off in one minute (Three/six minutes in the film). At this point, I've felt a sense of pressure and anxiety, and my only hope to escape was though a square hole in the floor. With your handy laser watch, you cut though the hole and escape with Natalya, and watch the train go boom.

Speaking of going boom, I think this game made me a BIG fan of explosions in media. I swear, with a Grenade Launcher, I'm a shuck terrorist (as in, I love blowing stuff up). B) But of course, don't take me the wrong way, I'm not psycho or anything. I just love dealing damage to enemies in games with flash and booms, and with GoldenEye, you can place explosives underneath unsuspecting (indifferent? O_o ) soldiers and watch 'em go. This piece sums up my lust toward destruction in the game.

Going back to what GoldenEye might have that many games even today don't. I think it's its style. One example of this is the death animation. When you get yo' ass capped enough and die, you see this "spilling blood" animation that covers the screen from the top, and a Bond-like theme plays during that animation. I really thought, "if Bond has to go, he shows it in style". Another is some of the character animation, whenever you coming out of a hole or a corridor, you sometimes see enemies jump out and twist their torso and point and aim their gun at you with there other arm moved out. This may be "meh" today, but back then it was both cool and amazing, especially when you consider how realistic the animation was at the time.

And last but not least, the music. OH GOD THE MUSIC. Timeless. Beautiful. The soundtrack is something I could actually dance to. My absolute favorite is the Surface theme (first visit). I swear that theme... that theme has this ambiance that makes it so sexy and epic. I'm actually considering mashing that beat with something, but I've got nothing yet. This soundtrack is god on the N64. It beat Zelda:Oot, yes you heard me right. :fappery:

All in all, this isn't/wasn't some licensed piece of crap you find at bargain-bins at a god[darn] North American Wal-Mart for $10 a pop. This is, and I'm sure many will agree, actually one of the best, or THE best, console FPS video game of the 1990's, and one that helped popularize the first-person shooter genre on the consoles. Truly one of the most remarkable games on the N64 and possibly the best licensed title of the fifth generation of video games, this is a game I enjoyed dearly back in the day.

And after years of not officially owning an N64 until just recently, I've decided to take the time to create my seventh PEMNAS series around this game, which has brought me nostalgic joy and great memories. Hope you enjoy. B) Also, PEMNAS = PLEASE EXCUSE MY NOOB ASS SKILLS. I invented the term myself.

Here's the playlist to see the series in 19 parts (23 videos):

Mario Chat / Quite possibly the least known TV appearance for Mario...?
« on: October 18, 2009, 07:03:25 PM »
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PEk8gxC06rU

This was something I found the other day in my old VHS tape collection. What you see here is a clip of Mario featured in a TV game show from Spain called El Gran Juego De La Oca. This program used to air on Telemundo (now called TeleFutura, I believe) back in the mid 1990's, and I used to DIG this show when I was a lot younger.

Basically there were four adult contestants, two men and two women, and what the game was about was this giant board game based on the centuries-old children's game, Juego de la oca (Game of the Goose). As they played the game, they competed in extreme stunts [at least for the time, =P] in a test of mind, physicality, and courage to win money and prizes. Stunts included activities like diving into a swimming pool to disarm some explosives underwater, or pulling ribbons from wild animals, to name a few.

What does this have to do with Mario? Well, in this segment of the show, the contestant "San Pablo" has to rescue Princess DAISY who's trapped inside an iron bar prison. To achieve this, he has to use a frame welder to burn through the metal/iron/copper/whatever, and set Daisy free! Daisy is basically a actress in a costume, just like Mario.

Apparently, the Spain division for Nintendo (Aptly named Nintendo of Spain) was a sponsor for that program, since they advertised the Mario series periodically through this show (Specifically, the Game Boy portable console I believe, hence Princess Daisy's "appearance" instead of Peach.)

Just something I'd thought I'd like to share. To make a discussion of this, let me ask if anyone has ever seen any random TV appearances of Mario anytime? Is that even a valid question at all? If not, then let's discuss about this obscure Mario TV appearance.

Not quite sure if this is the right place for this, anyways...

Two nights ago, after I had just finished uploading my last videos, I felt like listening to Lady Gaga's Just Dance, and after that I started listening to the MM9 Arranged Album and something hit me... what if I combined Lady Gaga's Just Dance (Acapella Only) with MM9's Arranged Version of Wily Machine? Well here's the result:

OK, no BS. I combined Lady Gaga's Just Dance (Acapella Only) with MM9's Arranged Version of Wily Machine, and here's the result:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=utneEJwEKYA

Think what you will of Lady Gaga, I don't know nothin' about her other then that Just Dance song she made that my sister likes to listen.

General Chat / How would you like to hear your entertainment?
« on: July 20, 2009, 08:59:18 PM »
When you play a game, watch a movie or/and an anime, in what language would you listen it to? How would you like your characters portrayed like? Look, stupid obvious question cause I know everyone's gonna say English, but let's say you its for artistic or [insert scenario] reasons.

For example, when I'm playing Mega Man X7, I usually dialog track to Japanese because sometimes I really do find the English dub track to be that god awful. I mean in MMX7, I'll bring out one line for you to sum it up: "BURN BURN BURN TO THE GROUND!!! BURN BURN BURN TO THE GROUND!!!" I mute the TY just so I can survive the terror.

In Anime, I would go for the if-available Japanese track, except for one particular show, Yu Yu Hakusho. Yusuke Urameshi's English VA, Justin Cook, really does know how to freaking do his job as an artist, that's all that has to be said. Plus the Opening and Ending songs sound awesome in English, IMO. I actually prefer YYH in English.

I actually watched a lot of movies in Spanish before, especially Holes and Bolt. For some reason, watching Holes is a lot more enjoyable in Spanish. =P

If you're wondering why I even ask you of this, is because recently I put together a video of Resident Evil about its unused Japanese dialogue track. At first, upon hearing the pieces of the JP track without the scenes, it wasn't very "cool", but then I spliced together scenes from the game with the unused track. To my surprise, the JP voices seemed more "natural" with the characters movement, and the intensity of the cut-scenes, especially Jill IMO. I mean, I know how god-awful and intentionally cheesy the dialogue is, hell I'm a fan of the Jill Sandwich, but I just couldn't stand hearing...

Enrico: Is that Jill?
Jill: Is that voice Enrico's?
Enrico: Yeah?
Jill: Your ALIVE!

What the f*/k? HE'S RIGHT IN FRONT OF YOU, YOU DUMB BROAD!!

And...

Barry: "WHAT! WHAT IS THIS?"
(There's a puddle of a red liquid in front of Jill and Barry)
Jill: "What is it?"
Barry: "BLOOD."

No Barry, it's spilled Tomato Soup. =P

Ah, what the hell. I love this game's dialogue XD. I wonder how things would have sounded in Japanese.

It's interesting how the characters are portrayed in other languages. Discuss.

Not sure if this is the best place for this thread.

Alright, my game consoles have a lot of dust and lint inside the consoles and in the cartridge slot. I want to remove and clean them using a Spray Can like a dust remover. You know, like those same cans used for spraying the insides of a PC. Would you guys recommend that I do this? If so, what would I have to watch out for?

Consoles include Genesis, PSone & PS2 Slim, Dreamcast, SNES, GCN, and Wii.

Cleaning advice for a dummy here please.

Video Game Chat / Hidden stuff in video games
« on: June 10, 2009, 09:36:39 AM »
Alternatively, the secrets in video games that that no one would even dare give two cares and a flip about.

So in Sonic Adventure at the very, very end of the last stage Final Egg, there's this platform that takes you up to a room where, if you can stomach the long grueling ride up, you can find four extra lives.

Has anyone actually waited for the [darn] thing to come down? I had to wait two minutes for it! Its funny how there's all these extra little paths and rooms with goodies in Sonic Adventure that are analogous to the earlier 2D Sonic titles. I never see those again (Aside from perhaps those Advance titles).

Have any of you ever had to wait for something to happen in a video game but didn't want to, or secrets that you know in a game that you know you wouldn't bother to check out but are cool none-the-less to other people? How about some hidden area where you find some really neat goodies? Or how about that pointless secret you found in "X" game? What ever the heck it is, why don't you discuss it.
