Mario Chat / Re: Mariology (serious posts wanted)
« on: March 07, 2010, 04:03:53 PM »
What I don't understand is why Pipe B would suddenly be removed from Bowser's body.
Because Bowser entered Pipe A, thus putting him inside Pipe B through teleportation. It doesn't matter that Pipe B was inside Bowser before, since the pipe simply teleports Bowser from Pipe A to Pipe B.

...This also exactly mirrors what happened on the other forum: someone asked this question a while after I posted my explanation. Weird.

I was wondering what to do with my Friday night popcorn, and then I just remembered, I was going to play this!

I'm starting it now. Expect more comments either here or on SMW Central's thread relatively soon.

...Whoa. I actually posed the question of "What would happen if Bowser tried to enter one of the pipes that led into his body?" on another forum a while ago, and after receiving a few comments, I decided to delve in and attempt to solve the paradox myself. Below is my dissertation on the subject.

(MAY CONTAIN SPOILERS!)

Well, to answer this question, we need to know a little about how warp pipes work. It's clear that, while some pipes are merely connected tubes like the screen-scrolling pipes found in Super Mario Bros. 3, one end of a pipe doesn't need to be physically connected to the other; while it's possible that the name "warp pipe" just comes from the fact that they take you from one place to another so fast, pipes actually appear to, in fact, use some sort of teleportation mechanism. We've seen numerous examples of this throughout the Mario series. Obviously, there's the pipes inside Bowser that lead to other locations in the Mushroom Kingdom - they don't go through Bowser at any point. In Super Mario Galaxy, as well, there are a few pipes on the planetoids that, when entered, take Mario to a completely different planet. There's no visible connection between the two planets, indicating that entering the pipe simply teleported Mario to the other location.

So, according to this theorem, if Bowser entered one of the pipes that led into his body, he would most definitely appear from that pipe. No grotesque bodily twisting or being turned inside-out involved. But what would happen to the pipe, since it was inside Bowser?

Our knowledge of warp pipes allows us to answer this. When you enter one, your body is transported from Pipe End A to Pipe End B, with no physical stops in between. So, if Pipe End B is inside Bowser, Bowser's body would be transported to a location inside Pipe End B, which would now be located outside his body. Pipe End B would be located in midair when Bowser first emerged from it, since wherever it was in Bowser's body would be above the ground level, but it would presumably fall to the ground immediately under the influence of gravity - or, perhaps, directly onto Pipe End A. Bowser would then fall to the ground as well.

It sounds like Bowser would be safe and unharmed, in addition to having a cool new way to get some of that junk out of his body. But there's one other thing we have to consider. The objects Bowser inhales shrink in size, becoming microscopic and fitting into his body. If Bowser went from Pipe End A to Pipe End B in his own body, Pipe End B's size would be incredibly small. Would Bowser come out miniaturized?

To solve this puzzle, we must look at what happens what objects exit Bowser's body. Unless I'm forgetting something, aside from the Mario Brothers using the pipes to get out, we see three instances of objects exiting Bowser while he's under the influence of the Vacuum Shroom. Broque Monsieur climbs out of Bowser's body after being sucked in while demonstrating how to use Bowser's vacuuming ability in battle; Fawful uses a laser gun-esque device to draw Princess Peach from the Flab Zone; and Mario, Luigi, Starlow, and everyone else inside Bowser are thrust out his mouth by Fawful's last-ditch explosion. The second one doesn't give us much to work with; Fawful's device could work in any way. But the first and last ones provide our answer. Broque Monsieur exits Bowser's body and very clearly grows back to full size, and when everyone is blown out of Bowser, they appear on the platform above Peach's castle in their normal, macroscopic sizes.

According to this property, when Bowser first disappears from his former position and appears at Pipe End B, the pipe is small at first, but then, since it has exited Bowser, it will revert to the size it was before Bowser swallowed it. Thus, if Bowser entered a pipe that led into his own body, the pipe would be removed from inside his body and he would emerge from it at normal size and in perfect condition.

Okay, thanks! You're member of the month, aren't you?
Yeah. Tomorrow's my last day. XP

In any case, I'll get around to playing this sometime in the coming week (or maybe next weekend if time constraints come up).

Haha, I saw you release this on SMW Central, and I was like "Is that Kimimaru from the Fungi Forums?" since I'd never seen you around. :)

It looks pretty decent form the screenshots, but admittedly, I'm more into SMW Hacks that try to be their own thing as opposed to those that just continue what the original started. I might give it a play anyway, though. If I do, I'll let you know what I think on SMW Central.

Mario Chat / Re: Best Mario ROM Hacks

I would like to nominate Super Mario World 2 Plus 3: The Essence Star. It's a Super Mario World hack and the best I've ever played thus far (well, I haven't played that many, but still). A great and intriguing story, an RPG-like hub, non-linear overworld and levels, incredibly fun theme-focused level design, and just a general really authentic feel. I'm playing through the game right now, and I've just about reached the end.

General Chat / Re: For all those furries out there.

I'm guessing most people use the default forum scheme and have never seen my avatar, but for those who have, I'm not furry, despite what it might imply. I don't think most people here would jump to that conclusion, though. It actually never occurred to me that my avatar would make people think I'm furry until someone else assumed it on another forum (we've cleared it up). I'm thinking about just getting rid of it on some of the other forums I go to, actually...aside from that one forum, where everyone already knows the story behind it, a generic Sonic fan character isn't exactly something I'd wear like a badge of honor.

If you want to know that "story behind it", basically, my brother and I were coming up with names for ourselves to use on our website, and we wanted characters to go with the names, so we eventually decided that I'd use a fox somewhat based on Tails since he used to be my favorite Sonic character. I didn't know much better back then. :P

I've only kept using the avatar out of habit, really.

Mario Chat / Re: Who is your favorite mario villain?
« on: January 11, 2010, 06:36:21 PM »
Mine is certainly Count Bleck from Super Paper Mario - he's a very interesting villain just in terms of appearance and mannerisms, but what really made him the best Mario villain in my eyes was that he had a real backstory and a motive for what he was trying to do instead of "generic evil dude wants to rule the world", and it was pulled off really well, especially for the first time in the series dealing with a villain who had a complex backstory like that.

My second favorite, also from Super Paper Mario, is Dimentio, for many of the same reasons. His backstory wasn't developed nearly as much as Bleck's, but he had quite an amazing and intricate plan and it was very exciting to see how it concluded at the game's climax.

...But since neither of them are on the list, I'll have to go with my third favorite, Fawful. He's just so wacky and his butchering of the English language and use of weird and extended metaphors are always hilarious. "A WINNER IS YOU!" "Your lives that I spit on are now but a caricature of a cartoon drawn by a kid who is stupid!"

Darth Butch.
Ahahaha, I remember that guy. :P

General Chat / Re: Wacko dreams

^ That part about the car changing into a bunch of different things cracked me up.

There was much more to my dream last night than this, but I only vividly remember the last part. Also, darn, we don't have the text colors anymore. I wanted to do that again. Oh well. I'll see what I can do with the formatting we still have...

After a segment dealing somehow with a desert and the corner tiles of Super Mario World's cave foreground, I found myself at the left side of the front of my school (although it seemed to look more like the junior high school I went to). One of my friends, hereafter referred to as M, was presenting something while people were watching. I think this was carried over from earlier in the dream; somehow I remembered other people doing this as well, and everyone was just watching the different students present. Once she was done, it suddenly turned into night, and everyone started leaving to go home. It looked like the end of the school day, since there were buses lined up in front of the school (which I'm now certain was actually the junior high, since where I'm at now the buses line up on the side). As I was walking toward my bus, my friend F came up to me and told me that our after-school Jazz Band schedule had been modified and we were going to it today even though it was Friday. Apparently, we had to get on a bus to go there (hmm, maybe that was some community event and not the school I was actually supposed to go to?), so we went and got some of the other members, including J. It was so dark, I was almost blinded by a nearby streetlight, so I faced the other way and held on to F and J's hands to guide me as we went back toward the buses. We got onto one rather small bus, and by then, everyone else was already there, so it was quite crowded. The inside walls of the bus appeared to be black with glowing dots on them. The people on the bus didn't seem to actually be people from my Jazz Band, and another one of my friends was there, so I sat behind her and next to F and talked with them while we were driving.

And...that's all I can remember.

Ha, nice. I tried to request something that was as complicated and made as little sense as possible...although I think I overdid it. I like it anyway, though.

What now...oh! On Monday, my chemistry teacher was away, so he left us a sub, and she looked at the wrong sub notes and ended up giving us the movie Freedom Writers to watch. A guy I know in that class asked me what movie it was and if I knew anything about it. I decided to have a little fun and said "It's called Freedom Riders. And...Freedom is the name of a horse. With superpowers. He can breath fire and runs so fast he creates tornadoes. And he's ridden by a hero to stop an evil businessman who wants to harness the sun's energy and create a nuclear reactor that will destroy the Earth." He's like "Wow, sweet." When it started playing, he said "What? This doesn't look like that at all!" I turned around, dumbfounded, and asked "Wait, did you actually believe me?" Apparently he had. Everyone around us thought it was hilarious.

So that's my next request. Draw a movie poster-esque picture of a hero (preferably with a generic cape) riding Freedom the horse in a dramatic pose, facing the evil businessman who's floating in front of the giant nuclear reactor in the background. And put lightning or something in the sky.

Ha, that missing word is clever. :P

OK. Draw Sonic and Tails (who looks inquisitive) fighting a girl who looks like a tree in the center of an impact crater in the tundra littered with human skulls and scattered remains of palm trees with multicolored smoke in the sky along with mirrors and laser guns orbiting a Super Mario Galaxy-style miniplanet.

I was waiting for you to make this thread! Well, in sort of a bizarre inversion (and just because I want to see it), I was going to ask you to draw the Lolwut Pear as the respected CEO of a major bank, but since TLW's thread is active again, and you requested it there...

Draw a visual representation of "I accidentally a whole coca-cola bottle. Is this bad?"
