So yeah, I'm the kinda player who wants to find creative ways to finish off a boss in games, just because I simply think it looks awesome. <airhead talking>

One day, I played Kingdom Hearts II again from the beginning up till that point where you fought the Twilight Thorn. I got it's HP down to 1, but I didn't land a finishing move on it. It played that Reaction Command sequence for the final time, but after when Roxas throws that Keyblade at the boss and falls back to the ground, the boss lands on his head and is defeated, to my surprise. The head slam counted as a Finisher, while Roxas is still lying on the floor! I laughed so hard at that.

If it will make any more sense, I have it all on video here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RSw53drbvIA

So to reiterate the question: Do any of you recall any interesting boss fight experiences that you would like to share? (Examples: Won the boss with 1HP with no items, miraculous victory in the end, seemingly good battle turned upside down, sudden stupid death by accident, etc.)

(Yeah, it 12:30AM here, gotta get to bed. zzzz)

Sonic CD is what IHMO call the quintessential CD-based 2D Sonic game. If that sounds too high-phrased to anyone, its because there really is no other Sonic game of its kind. I personally find the time concept ahead of its time as a Sonic game. If I had never played or heard of Sonic CD before during the GEN/MD era, and I was a Saturn owner waiting for a true Sonic game at the time, I would have expected the time concept to have shown up in a Sonic 4. I have no idea if that makes any sense, so don't argue with me. So yeah, basically I would have expected such a concept to arise later in time.

For anyone's enjoyment, or if you've absolutely nothing better to do, which was sort of the case with me. I'd like to show my YouTube PEMNAS playthough in order of how I played it. I personally love this game.

Here's the Playlist:
(Part 1) Start Up + Palmtree Panic Zone 1
(Part 2) First Special Stage
(Part 3) Palmtree Panic Zone 2
(Part 4) Second Special Stage
(Part 5) Palmtree Panic Zone 3
(Part 6) Collision Chaos Zone 1
(Part 7) Third Special Stage
(Part 8) Collision Chaos Zone 2
(Part 9) Fourth Special Stage
(Part 10) Collision Chaos Zone 3
(Part 11) Tidal Tempest Zone 1
(Part 12) Fifth Special Stage
(Part 13) Tidal Tempest Zone 2
(Part 14) Sixth Special Stage
(Part 15) Tidal Tempest Zone 3
(Part 16) Quartz Quadrant Zone 1
(Part 17) Quartz Quadrant Zone 2
(Part 18) Seventh AND Final Special Stage
(Part 19) Quartz Quadrant Zone 3
(Part 20) Wacky Workbench Zone 1
(Part 21) Wacky Workbench Zone 2
(Part 22) Wacky Workbench Zone 3
(Part 23) Stardust Speedway Zone 1
(Part 24) Stardust Speedway Zone 2
(Part 25) Stardust Speedway Zone 3
(Part 26) Metallic Madness Zone 1
(Part 27) Metallic Madness Zone 2
(Part 28) Metallic Madness Zone 3 & FINAL FEVER!
(Part 29 / THE END) Cosmic Eternity - Good Ending

The playthrough consists of individual videos, each containing a Zone and a Special Stage between each of them. Also, PEMNAS stands for "PLEASE EXCUSE MY NOOB ASS SKILLS". I invented the term myself. Its created to separate my videos from being called a Speed-Run (its not meant to be one) or a walkthrough. Its really just to show others my average-level game skillz in da game. I know, its probably a stupid little gimmick but I just felt like being creative. Whatever.

FINISHED!! Thanks for watching everyone!!!

Oh yes another example is Duck Hunt. How could I fail to remember the quintessential duck hunting game?

Video Game Chat / Animal Abuse in video games
« on: March 08, 2009, 12:31:35 AM »
Have you ever noticed any animal abuse in video games?

I know that in some games like Mega Man Legends where you can do more then just kick dogs. In fact, in its Japanese counterpart, Rockman DASH, you can not only kick the dog to save a certain female character early in the game, but you can even kick cats, and shoot down birds too with no penalty whatsoever. (This video is almost full of annotations that save me the trouble of describing everything in complete detail.)

There's more too. In many Zelda games you can strike at the Cuccos (The chickens) out of amusement. Though, they'll practically curse you with a flurry of them after your cruel ass.

Also, in the MOTHER/EarthBound series, you can strikes stray dogs, crows, etc. with a baseball bat. Even though its in self-defense. Plus, in MOTHER 3, there's a character that shocks his monkey servant out of amusement.

What kind of examples of "animal abuse" do you spot in video games nowadays and before?

General Chat / Looking for a job ~ Best place to work?
« on: October 01, 2008, 10:52:32 PM »
Alright, for the past few weeks, I've been looking for a part-time job. I'd like to know what would be some of the best places to work at. I've heard some good things about In-N-Out Burger: like flexible hours for college students, and good training (as well as something about "Discrimination in favor of the employees" Whatever that means or is.) I understand that it would be a pretty demanding job, but I know that if I try, I can do it.

What I really want is a job that would pay me a good amount of money (I understand that I would most likely be starting minimun wage $8), that's not to stressfully tiresome (Yeah right.), flexible hours (I'm a full time student at community college), and a job thats an easy (*shot*) entry level job. I would really do weekends.

If I sound like a total idiot or clueless individual, is because again this would be my first job ever and I don't want to struggling the first time. I don't think I even know what my dumb*** self is suppose to do other then just filing out a job application and then turning in this resume (the one below) to whoever, and then scheduling an interview with somebody from the place I'm applying to. :P

Now my flaws, I don't plan on adding these on my resume :P :

*I usually have a hard time thinking and focusing
*Some time management problems (That CAN be improved)

I really need a job soon, as I'm entering the real world like now, and I need to be supporting myself as I can't rely in my parents for cash forever (duh).

Thanks for reading this topic, I hope I can get some good advise here. If you have any questions, feel free to ask. Just don't bite me.

Well, if this becomes true then I’ll be glad that I haven’t wasted money on the import like some people.

General Chat / Too old for certain Japanese manga or anime?
« on: August 07, 2008, 03:18:00 PM »
See I ask this because I'm 18 and I'm kinda concerned about going to a book store and buy this manga called Dragon Drive.. I have been really into this series since I was 16, and I have been buying the manga up till volume 6. I just want to go buy Vol. 7 for my enjoyment but it would be kinda awkward to go into a Barnes & Noble to buy something that looks like its for kids. What I'm really worried about is for some employee to question, talk smack, and embarrass me (This wouldn't be the first time). I could lie and say its for my little brother, though.

What about the PSP remake?
But thats what MMPU is, a remake. A reboot. Not a real chronological continuation to MM&B.

Meh, I'll wait and see. It's a new, real Mega Man, but to me, that's like hearing about a new, real Star Wars game. It's just hard for me to get excited.
What's exciting is that the Classic series hasn't had an installment since Mega Man & Bass in 1998 (2003 if you count the GBA remake). Fans have been waiting a decade for a true Mega Man title, instead of all the ZXs, Zeros, Star Forces, etc. This is there golden opportunity to re-experience the classic 2D formula that made Mega Man so famous.

Did you ever thought how cool the old PS1 Crash games were? Many fans consider the ND games to be some of the best PSX , so a few fans at Crash Mania managed to come in contact with Mr. Rubin and asked him a few things about how it was like working on the ND Crash series, their relationship with SCEA at the time, etc.

I found this to be one of the more interesting parts of the interview:

- Why exactly was Crash's girlfriend, Tawna (That female bandicoot that you had to save in Crash 1), removed from the games? There have been many rumours floating around for a long time, but most fans are still searching for a definite answer.

The truth is as follows: the marketing director of Universal Interactive Studios was a very small minded woman. She saw the designs of Tawna, hot of the press, and insisted that the character would never get into the game as drawn. The original designs, which I think can still be found on the Naughty Dog website were reminiscent of Jessica Rabbit from the Roger Rabbit movies. SEXY. The marketing director was not impressed. She called me into the office and yelled at me that women were not to be objectified in such manors, and that no real woman would EVER wear such clothing. We had drawn Tawna's clothing based on another employees outfit that day. When the woman wearing Tawna?s outfit in real life walked by the office door, the marketing director lost it. We were both forced to listen to half an hour?s ranting about women?s issues that culminated with a tirade about some women?s shoe commercial that featured women playing basketball in high heels. She also insisted that as of that date "no video game would ever be successful because of a sexy woman ever again." None of this was relevant, of course. What was relevant was that the marketing director got the president of Universal Interactive so nervous that he asked us to change Tawna to her specifications. Thus the final Tawna that made it in the game was heavily toned down and forced to wear the kind of clothing that a woman might on safari in the late 1800?s. We had a lot of arguments with the marketing director, including her insistence that Crash be named "Wez", "Wuzzles", or (my favorite) "Wizzy, the Wombat". We won 99% of them. Somehow she prevailed on Tawna. The end result was such a disaster that we yanked her from the sequels. BTW: Lara Croft (Tomb Raider) launched shortly thereafter and took the video game world by storm and the marketing director left games forever. Now you have the whole story.
Gold. Absolutely gold.

Enjoy!

Video Game Chat / Itagaki quits and sues Tecmo
« on: June 03, 2008, 01:40:12 AM »
http://kotaku.com/5012535/itagaki-leaving-tecmo-suing-tecmo

Am I the only person who saw this coming? I always viewed him as a egotistical, and seemingly perverted, game designer who'd likely throw a fit if he didn't get his way, but now he's taken it too far. In this case though, I wouldn't say that he asked for it this time.
