Fan Creations / Gallery of PL
« on: January 14, 2009, 06:18:00 PM »
Here are 3 pictures I've submitted to Deviant Art. I have a bunch more that I've never finished/ever submitted, so consider these three my best pieces.

The pictures in full size are here.

Expect the gallery to grow when I get some free time. All of these were done during my 3 week long Christmas break (sometimes I'd spend 7 or 8 hours working on them).

I honestly have no idea why I did this...this pic is not for anyone who hates YouTube poop or internet memes in general.

Not at the Dinner Table / Obligatory Politics Discussion Thread
« on: July 17, 2008, 09:50:16 PM »
Forrest Guy said we needed one of these, so here it is. This topic is for discussing politics in general. Obviously this topic is going to go off in all sorts of directions, but it's gotta start somewhere, so...what is your political affiliation? Are you a liberal or a conservative? Or are you in the middle? Heck, are you a communist or a statist (just throwing it out there, fellas)? Be sure to give reasons why you feel that way. Oh, and if you're not political, I wouldn't even bother posting in this thread to begin with.

I'm republican, but I don't agree with them on every aspect, mind you. I used to be a liberal until I realized that I was only a liberal through fear of rejection at my school and I didn't really believe in a lot of the stuff they stand for. I like low taxes (although competition/capitalism can go to far in certain aspects), I'm pro-life and I like the idea of religion in school (but evolution should be taught without faith as an influence). Unlike some right-wingers, I do think the environment is in trouble and we need to stop using gasoline as a fuel source. That's basically what I think in a nutshell.

(I don't think this topic will turn into a flame war, of course. I think we've proven that we're all capable of talking about politics in a dignified manner).

Read the article and tell me what you think about this. A little unnerving if you ask me. Of course, it could lead to some fantastic discoveries if everything goes well.

EDIT: Yes, I am aware that Yahoo news totally sucks, but this article is rather interesting.

Video Game Chat / Personal Bests on non-Mario titles
« on: June 25, 2008, 04:03:33 PM »
Hiya, it's me with another topic. In any game besides a Mario title, what is your personal best score/rank/whatever? I've been playing MGS3 for a few days now and managed to unlock the Foxhound rank. Has anyone done something like this in another game or an MGS title? Just curious. Now's your chance to brag about your skills.

Not at the Dinner Table / War
« on: June 23, 2008, 09:05:53 PM »
Inspired by the recent surge of touchy subject type threads. The current war (Iraq) is stupid, but I believe we should take pride in the fact that we were involved in WWII and WWI for specific reasons (some of which include stopping Hitler, aiding our allies and liberating captured civilians). I can also sympathize with certain groups who fight for freedom and battle in order to protect their homeland (Spartans, South Vietnamese, Allies, Muslims) against the dictators/kings/leaders of the past (King Richard, Hitler, Khan) even though they obviously knew they'd be killing the opposite side. In my opinion, war is something that can't be helped at times, and if you take a look at the history of mankind, some wars were needed to keep the balance of good and evil in tact (WWII, WWI, Civil War, American Revolution). Of course, I can also see where war was a poor option (Spanish-American, Vietnam, Iraq) and wasn't needed. I'm not a hawk when it comes to waging war because I always try to look for other possible options. In any case I respect the troops (at least the ones who do the job they're supposed to do). It bothers me when liberals like Rosie Odonnell accuse our troops of being terrorists but I'm also disturbed by conservatives like Bill Oreilly who think the Iraq war is justifiable. Like I said in another thread, war is sometimes necessary and sometimes it isn't, but never is it never necessary or always necessary.

Anyway, that's my take on war, and if you guys have any opinions on what could have/should have been done instead of fighting in a specific war (even if it was WWII or WWI), say them here.

Fan Creations / Metal Gear Mario
« on: June 04, 2008, 01:42:13 PM »
I love these two games, so I did a crossover. The quality sucks because my scanner is absolutely horrible, but it was fun to draw nonetheless.

http://Droopy17.deviantart.com/art/Metal-Gear-Mario-crossover-87394751

Yes, this is my account. And yes, I did draw this on MS paint. This picture is for people who like both Mario and Metal Gear (the actual idea isn't original, but whatever). I doubt anyone will need help figuring out who everyone is, but just in case...

Mario-Solid Snake
Luigi-Liquid Snake
Wario-Solidus Snake

I need some help from the Metal Gear fans on the site (I know Glorb and SolidShroom are fans, but just in case there are more fans, I made this topic). I am trying to complete the European Extreme modes on MGS1, MGS2 and MGS3 but I'm stuck on three different parts in all three games (yes, I suck). On MGS1, I can't get past the stairway part (Snake trips the laser beams and you have to run up the stairs battling a ton of enemies), on MGS2 I can't defeat Fatman and on MGS3 I can't get past the part where Big Boss has been stripped of his gear and is trying to get to the manhole on the northwestern side of Groznyji Grad. With the stairs, I make it up to about the 20th level but I'm ultimately killed. With Fatman, I try using the strategy where you shoot him in the head, wait for him to dance, and then shoot him in the foot (and then repeat) but I'm a terrible shot with the tranquilizer gun and I always end up missing (I can shoot his head, but I always miss his foot). With Groznyji Grad, I can't take 3 steps without getting spotted by the bad guys.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is...I totally need some help.

General Chat / PaperLuigi's Challenge
« on: January 12, 2008, 10:46:31 AM »
This is kind of a strange idea, but I thought it'd be a good idea nonetheless. It popped into my head the other day when I thought "What if for one month, another member and I stop posting comments and communicate solely through posting images?" Well, through that came this topic, and since it is January, it's a pretty good time to start the challenge. Here's the deal: for one month, I and another member will follow strict rules dictated by a challenge announced at the beginning of the month. There are no awards for completing the challenge, other than the recognition for completing the challenge itself (hey, at the end of the year you can look back and say "Yeah, I did that!"). There will be 12 challenges (because there are 12 months) and in order to qualify for the challenge, you must volunteer. It's first come first serve, so if you want to take the challenge, be sure to volunteer quickly . I will do every challenge with you (you won't be alone, don't worry). If you don't want to do the challenge, or think that this idea is stupid, don't respond and you will be ignored. You must come to this board everyday (if you can't come to the board a certain day, it's no big deal, just don't avoid the board for weeks at a time) until your challenge is up so that everyone knows you're not trying to avoid your obligation. This may not be for the feint of heart, so make sure you are ready to accept the challenge before you volunteer. The challenge will start as soon as I get a volunteer. The next challenge will be decided by either myself or the person who completes the challenge that precedes it. That way, those who pull through and make it to the end of the month have the opportunity to decide the fate of the next challenger. The next challenge will be decided by myself and no one else (don't worry megamush, I will still use your challenge idea for a later month) because I have a full list of challenges that are all fairly difficult (some of them are pretty tough) and I want to be sure I can use them all. Those who complete the challenge will have their name engraved next to the challenge under the title "Challenge Master" for all the world to see, so if you think that's worth fighting for, come on down! If for any reason you must drop out in the middle of a challenge, tell me and I will replace you with someone else. Just be sure it's for a good reason. I don't want someone taking a challenge then wuss out because they don't want to do it anymore.

1. January Challenge
From January 12 to February first, one member and I will be required to speak like pirates.

Challenge Master: Megamush

2. February Challenge
From February 1st to March 1st, one member and I will only be allowed to post in the Forum Games.

Challenge Master: Glorb

3. March Challenge: This is a tough one and might not have a challenge master. From March 1st to April 1st, you must post 1 facts about yourself and 1 lie about yourself each day in the Pointless topic. I will try and guess which one is fact and which one is fiction. If you trick me, then you recieve a point. You need 15 total points to earn the title, which means you must trick me 50% of the time.

Challenge Master: N/A

Total Points Earned: 2

4(a). April Challenger: From April 1st to May 1st, one member and I will only be allowed to post once a day.

Challenge Master: Mr. Wiggles

4(b). May Challenge: From May 1st to June 1st, one member and I will only be able to use quotes from wikiquote.com to post.

Challenge Master:

5. June Challenge: From June 1st to July 1st, one member and I must brainstorm and post a topic that gets at least 120 replies or 1600 views within a month. We only get 2 chances to make a topic, and one of them must make it to 120 replies by the end of the month. This is the 2nd of the 3 most difficult challenges.

Challenge Master:

6. July Challenge: From July 1st to August 1st, one member must speak in riddle and ryme instead of regular commenting. To win this challenge, the challenger must trick the other forum members. The other forum members will get one chance to guess the riddle (though it doesn't matter who tries to guess). If that member guesses wrong, then the challenger gets a point. The challenger needs 15 points to win. Also, to prevent from earning extra points, the challenger will only be allowed to post once per day in the topic of his/her choice.

Challenge Master:

Names on the sign up sheet are pending, which means these guys are not obligated to take the challenge if they don't want to. They can take there name off at any time before the challenge begins, and they can also join back up if they change there mind. Game Help / Quick question about Mario Galaxy

I have a quick question about Mario Galaxy. In order to collect all 120 stars, will I need to collect 100 coins in each level?

General Chat / Rotten Mushrooms
« on: December 14, 2007, 02:58:01 PM »
One of my favorite websites nowadays is a site called Rotten Tomatoes (I'm sure everyone here has heard of it). I thought it might be cool to start something a little bit like that here so I could get some idea of what you guys think of some movies. Here's the deal: one of us picks a movie and 10 people give it a review. You can either score it rotten or fresh depending on how much you liked the movie, and be sure to give a small review of why you feel that way. After 10 reviews, I will determine if the movie is a rotten or a fresh. If it gets more than 60% fresh ratings, the movie is fresh, and if it gets a 59% or below, the movie is rotten. A movie can become certified fresh if it gets a 70% or above. Got it? Good! I think a good starting point would be the Mario Brothers movie, only because this is a Mario site.

PaperLuigi's review: I though the Mario brothers movie was pretty corny and unlike the games in a lot of ways. However, I found myself laughing more than I did thinking about how unlike the game it was. The special effects were pretty good for it's time, and the story was actually pretty interesting. Interesting enough to keep my mind on the actual movie and not it's departure from the games.

Final Verdict:

So now the Mario Bros. movie has a 100% fresh rating. I need 9 more reviews to get a verdict. Use the image above for fresh ratings and this image for rotten ratings:

P.S. Please do not come to the topic and say "bad idea," or "this is stupid." If you don't like the idea, that's fine, just don't post.

General Chat / South Park Caricatures
« on: November 13, 2007, 07:28:11 PM »
I'm sure many of you have done this before, but I'd like to see what you guys would look like as South Park characters anyway.

Here's the link to the site. Please, please please don't come to the topic and say "I hate South Park" or "OMG PL stop being so obsessed with South Park!!!!1!!" Now get out there and do that voodoo that you do so well.

Here's Mine:

It came out a little crappy since I own a Mac and it makes me save the picture as if my entire desktop was in the back. So I had  to do a little...uh, editing.

Fan Creations / Mario and Nintendo/South Park cross-over pic
« on: November 03, 2007, 11:19:17 PM »
I was so bored tonight that I just had to make this on flippin' MS Paint.

The characters and their counterparts are (in no particular order)....

Mario as Stan Marsh
Luigi as Kyle Broflovski
Wario as....Eric Cartman (I wonder why)
Waluigi as Kenny McCormick (Waluigi haters should like that)
Pikachu as Timmy (he can only say his name)
Sonic as Tweek Tweak (Tweek is a little hyper, Sonic is super fast...they kinda work out)
Yoshi as Butters Stotch (they both seem very friendly)
Kirby as Chef (I know Chef is kinda dead, but Kirby and Chef are both chefs, so whatever)
Solid Snake as Jimmy (don't ask me about this one)
Peach as Wendy (Stan and Wendy were kind of an item at one point, so I had no choice)

Snake/Jimmy kinda got ripped off because of my crappy printer. X(

BTW, if you don't like South Park or Mario (haha, just kidding about the Mario part) please don't come to the thread and say "South Park sucks". You can say that about the picture however, since it was done on MS paint.

South Park and the Nintendo/Konami/Sega characters are all copyrights of their respected owners (just in case any of them come to this site).

Forum Games / Super Paper Mario RPG: Finding Tippi
« on: July 13, 2007, 10:05:35 PM »
EDIT: Ack! Don't read on if you don't know the ending to Super Paper Mario! There are spoilers ahead! (Dang, I should've thought of this before posting. X_X) I'd put spoiler tags over the entire post, but I'm afraid that will draw people away from playing.

Hehe, this board hasn't seen a RPG in quite a while now; I hope I can get people into this.

I know it's been about 3 months since SPM was released, but I actually picked up the game a day ago or so. The game was sooooo high-technical...err, I mean cool, and I wanted to give a new RPG a shot after beating it and seeing the ending. After the ending, I was kinda left with a bad taste in my mouth; I wanted to know what really happened to Tippi and Count Bleck (I know the characters at the end claim she found happiness, but come on. We all know that just ain't good enough.) So I figured, why not continue the tale with the members at the Fungi Forums? Any and all members who have played SPM can join in (sorry to those who haven't, you probably won't get what's going on).

You can choose ANY character in the game (villians and heros alike) to be your player EXCEPT for Tippi (yes, you can be Count Bleck and Dimentio, but you'll have to come up with an explanation as to how they got back). After 4 or 5 people join up, I'll start a chapter, and then a battle will ensue. After the battle is won and done, another member can write the next chapter (depending on the order of members who join up). The total object of the story itself is to eventually find Tippi in some form or another after starting the adventure, battling foes, battling a final boss and finding Tippi. The final ending depends on how the story is written by the members here; remember, this is a team effort. Of course, after we fight the final boss, we'll have to figure out who is best to write the final ending, but we'll deal with that when the time comes. As for stats, I'll post in an example at the bottom. All of you will have to figure your own stats based on your characters ability. Just be sure to use common sense when picking stats.

Joe Blow
HP:10
FP:10
Attacks: Punch. Deals 3 HP damage.
Kick. Deals 5 HP, takes 2 FP to perform.
Head butt. Deals 5 HP, takes one turn to charge.

Turn orders will be based on the order people join up. So if you wanna join, do it quick.

Remember, this is a team effort. If you join, be sure you stick around to do it; if someone runs off, it'll mess up everything.  :P

This is gonna be fun if we can make it work. Everyone who enjoyed SPM can come here and continue the tale in your own way.

P.S To be fair, I won't pick my character quite yet. BTW, If anyone joins in in the middle of a chapter, or in the middle of a battle, they'll have to be worked into the next one.
