General Chat / Hypnosis?
« on: October 25, 2012, 06:44:00 PM »
Just thinking of this, and honestly I'm not sure if if this belongs in NATDT, but do you what do you guys think of hypnosis? (Also, bonus question: If you could be hypnotized for anything what would it be? Be as creative as you want; I already know my answers are going to be super boring compared to anything you guys come up with)

From what I understand, hypnosis uses suggestion from a fully-willing individual concerning a goal they wish to achieve; in other words, it's only good if the person in question really wants to undergo the "effects" of hypnosis. That said, I took a psychology class last semester, and while I enjoyed it, I never felt as though we really got into hypnosis in the way I envisioned it. When I say that, I don't mean "mind control," but rather just the idea of suggested behaviors in general. Also, I've attempted hypnosis tracks on YouTube before (for memory purposes mostly), with pretty much no results. Whilst in my psyc class, I did a test of "susceptibility" by which tells you if you can easily undergo hypnosis, and according to it, I can... but I think I don't fully "subscribe" to the idea, if that makes any sense; otherwise, I think it would've made a difference. Maybe I over-think the whole thing too much for it to work? I don't think I fully get the grasp of the idea; what do you guys take from it?

To answer my own question above, I'd want to be hypnotized to remember my dreams well. There's a lot of stuff that goes on in my head that almost immediately becomes forgotten; even though in the back of my head, I'm thinking, "Man, I wish I knew what that dream was about; that was cool!"

I remember that, we stayed out of it because it was so expensive, and knew at least one was going to die out completely.

And still, the only real Blu-Ray player we own is a PS3, because a guy gave it to us as collateral for borrowing/buying something from my dad; guess who's still got it? Pretty happy that we basically got that thing for free.

haha yep.

Funny; in the midst of impressions and vocal exaggerations, I can do a pretty good Donald Duck, but apparently everyone thought it was annoying, so I haven't done it extensively in a while...

Me on Helium.

Did this whilst watching a certain movie; let's see who gets it first!

Missed the boat on GameStop pre-orders. I'm set up so they call me when they get extras, but if anyone has alternatives (for guaranteed purchases), I'm listening.

Super excited, but not quite so much for the mad-dash release date that coincides with the holidays. Still, congrats to Nintendo; looks like they've got plenty of sales in the bag.

I'll definitely download something for this; my brother expressed a slight interest in Professor Layton so that might be how I break into this deal since I already have a reserve card for Paper Mario with Target.

I'll be keeping it around; having the two might actually be useful to me. Plus with my GameCube we'll still be able to have Four Swords fun!

EDIT: I voted change room/TVs.

"I'll get into that later." EVERYBODY DRINK!

Anyway, it's looking really cool, and I'm definitely excited. I'm thinking this will be the most "self-aware" Paper Mario game ever?

Yep, it has tons of stuff. I bought it recently, and even if you've got all/most of the games in some form, the CD/book/KRBAY episodes make this collection well worth-while.

What I find hilarious is that they found a way to allow remote control on the SNES and N64 games. I honestly thought you'd only be able to play those with the classic/GameCube controller.

That background story actually helps give the story a great deal of depth; if you were to ever expand it, I'm sure you could pull it off.

Even if you just start "wandering around" story-wise, it's a good start. That's how I started my first book; it's been over half a decade in the making so far, but I consider it my best collective work to date.

Legitimate or not, Dr. Mario's practice got results!

I'm very interested in reading more of the interview; I'll definitely take a peek at some point.

I don't know why, but every time I see that staff member posted here, I keep expecting it to be some big announcement.

Also LD, this poll says that I voted for you. DO IT!

Wow, that was very interesting. The ending there took me by surprise and I honestly didn't understand how it seemed to start over until I hit it. I reread to make sure I got everything.

Good details and the theme is interesting. Short piece as it may be, if you can extend it even a little, it would probably improve. What I noticed is that even with the title, I don't think I was anticipating/expecting "the twist." Personally, I think that's a great advantage to have as a writer. If you can keep them hooked with your idea long enough, they'll want to see how the resolution works out.

Either way, I'd say you did a great job.

I have always liked the bio pages for the games the most; they were very informative for me when I was younger.
