Site Discussion / Re: BS SMB USA?
« on: November 11, 2000, 02:08:03 PM »
Okay, judging from yesterday's update, I guess I'm not the only one who's heard of BS SMB USA... Unfortunately, it looks like you missed that line about SNES9x 1.26, Deezer.

Under all emulators except SNES9x *1.29 and earlier*, BS SMB USA doesn't work right; you can tell right away because the timer in the upper right reads 18 instead of 85.
The timer actually triggers all kinds of nifty events, including character changes; most events are signalled beforehand by one of those panels in the upper corners of the screen.  The timer also brings the game to an end after 50 minutes.

Oh, and it just occurred to me... Wasn't there a VS Dr. Mario?

Game Help / The Great Giana Sisters?
« on: August 07, 2000, 03:25:55 PM »
Is anyone else familiar with this game? Apparently, it was quite a classic on the C64, but it was so similar to Mario Bros. that Nintendo went after the company that produced it and put production to an end.
(In fact, I once saw a hack of this game that had the Giana sisters replaced with Mario and Luigi.)
I suppose it isn't too bad, as far as cheap remakes of high-quality games go.

Site Discussion / More Music
« on: July 25, 2000, 09:53:36 AM »
It seems that Estradasphere was the group that did that Latino-ish version of the Mario Bros. theme, but from the looks of things, it hasn't appeared on any of their albums yet.  You can listen to some samples of their music at www.estradasphere.com.  (I don't know where that "Cloudland" piece of theirs came from, but it also has all kinds of Mario sounds playing in the background.)

Incidently, Mario Bros. brings up quite a few relevant items in a Song search on cddb.com, including some kind of special edition of the Mario Bros. movie soundtrack.  (Maybe there's even something with that electric-guitar rendition they had during the Wizard movie commercials.)

Mario Chat / Mario Land music in SMRPG?
« on: July 04, 2000, 06:52:33 PM »
Anyone ever notice that the music at Frogfucius's (sp?) Pond in SMRPG bears a distinct resemblance to the music used in levels 1-1, 1-2, and 3-1 of the first Super Mario Land Game Boy game?

(You'd think Nintendo's game designers want to forget all about Sarassaland and Princess Daisy, but perhaps they haven't forgotten completely...)

Game Help / Wrecking Crew 98?
« on: June 20, 2000, 07:08:32 PM »
I finally did manage to find a copy of Wrecking Crew 98 the other day.  (Don't ask me where.)  Not a bad game, though perhaps a little less polished than some of Nintendo's other puzzlers.

Has anyone else played this game? If so, do you know how to make those little paintbrush thingies that they show in the credits to appear (not to mention the "crowd barriers" and construction poles)? I know I've seen the paintbrush once or twice, but I don't know how it got there.
