Because... that's the first file type that came to mind when I asked myself "What file types are postable in attachments on the FF?" and since bitmaps (the default file type in paint) don't work, I used GIFs the first time and am continuing use for ease of organization. I guess I can start saving them as something more colorful, if you wish.

I'd try saving them as PNG if you can... it has a small file size and little-no loss of quality iirc. =]
If my son could decimate Lego cities with his genitals, I'd be [darn] proud.

I save mine as 8-bit PNGs (equivalent to a GIF), and they turn out fine.
