could an european N-gamer(example: me) play against an american (example: you)? Because here (in europe) we've got PAL (with the famous black PAL-'beams')and you've (in the rest of the world) got NTSC (with better frame-rate).

So THAT'S why all the European world-ranked Mario Kart 64 players have to convert their times... I was wondering how a top ranked European player could be 15 seconds slower than me on Moo Moo Farm (One of my WORST TT tracks.)

Yes, I got really bored one day about 6 months ago so I went and checked how my times compared with the best in the world. I was... considerably off, heh. Still, I was 0.1 seconds off the Frappe Snowland WR lap time... back then, anyway.

That may have changed. As you all know, my Lap is 0:05.50 seconds.

Ok, after dragging this thread well off-topic, I'm pretty sure Nintendo will be able to figure out a way to get this to work, and if not, Nintendo will have A LOT of angry European fans...

Everyone has their own opinions, no matter how WRONG they are.

a Technical comparison:
System: Pal/NTSC
min.Rate: 25/30
max.Rate: 65/80
------------------------------------------------
PAL systems nedd more time to load because it has got 200 more vertical lines. (which in older or import games are black) The PAL System is one factor because the EU version of a game is the last one which is in stores , because it is hard to make a 60HRZ Game without PAL-'beams'.

You can play JP games easy on your CUBE but we  (the european) must pay 100€ (110$) to transform the PAL cube into a international cube. Only Europe (and austrailia) use the PAL system. Because PAL-gadgets are durabler.

So that's what's up with PAL! I never knew that!
Anyway, I should think that the NTSC and PAL versions would be compatible online. As long as they run at the same frame rate, if my understanding is correct.

It maybe be.. because the Dreamcast (do anyone remember this console?)and the X-Box (Can somebody use this THING called X-Box Controller) can do this... and PC too..(ok.. PCs don't have this problem with Pal).. Why is the GCN not like the GBA.. Because  you can Play 'Kirbys Abenteuer'(DE Text) in Link with 'Hoshi no Kabii'(JP Text) and 'Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland' (EN Text)without problems ...because it is the same Game but in 3 Languages.

So, Kirby: Nightmare in Dreamland is really a remake of Kirby's Adventure from the NES?

...You seem to know a lot about regional system differences and such. That's cool.

Yes.. same Levels ... same Bosses... same Kirby... same abilities... 'et cetera'. The next Kirby game must be 'Kirby'S Fan Pack (snes)'.
Erm Yes... we (the german) have got one problem with games too.. the problem is called 'BPjM: Bundesbehörde für aufsicht jugendgefährdender Medien' this means 'Federal Office for supervision of harmful for one's youth medias' - They took dangerous Games on a 'index' and then its hard to  get a game with is on it. eG. James Bond (n64) is in Germany not LEGAL or the shooter Unreal. The BPjM is like the ESRB, but harder.

True... but sometimes the BPjM is good.. example: The Game BMX XXX has got FSK 15 and at american it is only for adults...

But Nintendo is sometimes really really nice to the gamers... best example: Luigi's Mansion. We've got an easy and a hard (mirror) mode. (and 300 stars at Nintendo VIP 24:7)(with 2000 you've got a wave bird)(with 6000 a GBA)... all Mario games got 300 stars for the VIP service.

The second PAL-problem is...the Memo card. Pal games use more Blocks to save itself.

I had mention it. Austrailia Nintendo is worse than the European... because they (the austrian.. erm.. austrailian) got N-games after the europeans.

What does PAL stand for?

What's NTSC stand for?
*flash of insight*
*looks it up on the net*
PAL stands for Phase Alternating Lines, and NTSC stands for National Television System Committee.

(back to topic) The summer in europe will be hot.. because the Mario Sport Games , F-Zero and 1080° are in stores then.

(especially for europeans: every game inclusived 500 Stars for nintendo 24:7 VIP service)(and the gba sp only costs 5000)(and i've got 2460)... but theres one Problem.. Telekom Online does not support the nintendo modem... and AoL is too expensive for me.
