Take my place while I go get some pizza" If you say yes you'll become Mario while he's gone. He'll never come back, so you'll have to wait for someone else to do this.

After Donkey Kong Mario was transported to the Mushroom Kingdom, and hasn't come back to the real world since. Since Pauline is still in the real world and Mario is still in the Mushroom Kingdom they can never see each other.
