Thanks, Bigluigifan1.0!

I'll be chugging 200-proof alcohol by the jug before you know it! (So as not to scare people with my "humor," 200-proof alcohol = poison. Not chugable.)

I'm with you on all of that except for DKC3, which I never had the chance to play.

The reason people don't like DK64, I'm guessing, is that it could have you running in 64 different directions at once collecting tons and tons of bananas and other stuff. I never felt so busy and loaded with things to do in a game before I played DK64. However, for me that was a lot of fun.

Surprising. There are about 64 games on the list that I've played, and things started getting really sticky when I had 36 left to choose from.

Biggest disappointment for not being included: Banjo-Tooie. If there was ever a sequel in a two-part game series (considering that all other Banjo games have been very different) that was better than its prequel, then this game takes the cake. Banjo-Kazooie was wonderful, but Tooie improved on that game on so many levels. I do seem to be the only one who thinks this, though. :| Well, Chup, I guess you're in the same dank boat with SFA's exclusion, eh?

Watoad, it has retro stickers, but I haven't look at it in any detail yet.

Edit:  I thought you were in Mississippi?

Only stickers? *is relieved* I was rather afraid that I'd be missing some kind of free, cool, arranged, symphonic soundtrack. That'd have been a total bummer.

I'll be leaving for the airport at about 3:30 a.m. on Monday. I haven't decided yet whether or not to bother even going to bed the night before.

It also has an interesting poster and a cool interview with Kazuaki Morita, that's about it. The stickers are the coolest and most unusable thing in there.

Eheheheh!!

So you're back with NP again, huh?

Hehe.  Yeah, the stickers are nice but you could easily make some on your own.  The poster is pretty interesting.  My favorite poster so far was the Advance Wars DS one that looked like the Japanese box art.

My favorite poster is either Jet Force Gemini, Harrier 2001, or some other one that I'm not quite remembering. It's hard to be sure because I've received around 90 NP posters since I first subscribed.

My subscription ended at 199 as well. X_x

Really?! How strange! I thought I was the sole chump under a super-cool-soundtrack-slipping-through-the-grip curse, but now I see that my hunch was wrong on two counts.

Why did so many subscriptions expire at 199? Is it some kind of plot?

I am crushed under the magnitude of awesome games that have come out on Nintendo systems. I'm also very glad to have played most of them. I am a better person for having experienced their sublime beauty.

Wait, were there others besides mine and Sapphira's? Could this be?! Don't make me kill Jar Jar again!! (Sorry, Sapph. :/ )

Unlike our Lizard here, when I look at the list after posting this, I'll probably find that there are maybe as many as 20 games on the list that I've played even once. This is another way of saying that I likely won't do much judging and deciding but a lot of mad hoping and scanning.

Better person. Heheh. Great line.

I would record myself, but I'm nervous. :-[

Watoad's voice sounds EXCACTLY like my friend!

Don't worry; girls tend not to provide samples of their voices around here. Only one ever has (as far as I know). So there's no pressure.

Oh no! Re-attack of the clones!! *yells or screams in fright*

Did the 200th issue come with any cool bonuses or neat, unusual articles? My subscription to the magazine ended at Volume 199.

If some of the stuff I'm saying doesn't make sense, then that's okay; I wouldn't have understood it myself (or even said it in the first place) if not for the Linguistics class I just took.

First of all, I was incorrect; it's actually called Canadian Raising. If you follow that link, then click the links in the table there to get a feel for what Canadian Raising sounds like.

According to that page, only two of the three diphthongs in English are affected by Canadian Raising. Let me attempt to explain this. A diphthong is a vowel sound that actually consists of two different sounds, but we usually think of it as just one. Take a look:

  • The underlined sound in bake isn't just a strong a sound, but the e (as in Japanese sensei) and y (as in yes) sounds combined. This diphthong is represented phonetically as [ej]. (The phonetic symbol for the y sound is [j].)
  • Likewise, the underlined sound in bite is a combination of a (as in Japanese katana) and y. This diphthong is represented phonetically as [aj].
  • Finally, the underlined sound in rope is a combination of o (as in the Japanese pronunciation of Mario) and w (as in will). This diphthong is represented phonetically as [ow].

Supposedly only the first two diphthongs above are susceptible to Canadian Raising, but I notice the difference in you particularly with the third one. Instead of saying [Watowd], you seem to say [Watʊwd] (where [ʊ] is the sound in book). The science of what is happening to the vowel is the same as the real Canadian Raising, but since it isn't officially recognized, I guess that makes you an alien. Good job, Alien Lizard Dude! ::)

As for the difference between the /a/ and /œ/ sounds, the movement of the tongue from the first to the second isn't one of raising but of moving forward a little. Compare how your tongue feels when saying the respective sounds in pot and pat, and you might see what I mean.

I don't have an accent, except maybe the word "sorry".

What?!! You are totally afflicted with the phenomenon known as Canadian rising, as if you were born in that mysterious land of the north. We discussed this in LA (though I hadn't learned the term "Canadian rising" yet), and most or all of us agreed that you sound like a Canadian. Your /o/ sound (as in Watoad) especially gives away your true identity.

A Malaysian friend of mine who went to elementary school in Oxford, England told me that my English sounds like standard, international English, which apparently means the general lack of an accent. There may have been a Japanese person or two who told me that as well. In any case, it's possible that accents aren't all relative—though I haven't studied the subject myself, and I've no idea what the "officials" would be using as the control against which all other accents are determined.

Oh, dang!! >:( I'm really sorry about that! I was using a friend's PC when I posted the link originally, and it downloaded like normal when I clicked it. But now I see that it's redirecting like you say. What a bummer . . . :-[

Well, if it isn't too late, I've uploaded the video to my own web space and changed the link to match. I'm sorry for the junk you had to go through already. Feel free to click or not to click the new link (it's 100% safe).

If I can't find a spare can after frying up some bacon, then I pour the liquid fat into my mouth. That way it's better for the environment, and I can use the frying pan again later.

To prevent confusion, I'd like to reiterate that the two figures above are the amounts of money spent on the films, not earned by them.

Peter Jackson and his company of skilled moviemaking people are the main reason for King Kong's quality, but there's also the difference in budget to keep in mind:

Godzilla: $125 million
King Kong: $207 million

The second number is about two-thirds larger than the first, which I imagine would account for some difference in the respective qualities of the productions.

Poster's note: I have not seen Godzilla.

Nice picture, smfan1085. I don't own a tie, so I couldn't top it.

That second picture of yoshimastar reminds me of me, too. Weird.

I don't know of any new Stargate games, either.

!! ??? Huh? I'm sorry! >_< If you found that video to be unpleasant because you don't like to see someone's house burn down, then don't worry: That video was a test and demonstration by a fire department, not a real case of someone's house burning down. But I'll still stick a disclaimer about what the video contains since you ask.

If you were referring to something else, then please post again to let me know.
