I saw Watchmen yesterday. Good movie, was a little PO'd about the absence of the squid, Rorschasch and Adrian Veidt were a little too over-the-top, Nite Owl was a little too Batman-y, sex scenes were a little too porn-y, but otherwise it's immensely faithful to the movie, and I walked away satisfied. Plus, Billy Crudup's dick stole the show, and I look forward to seeing it in future films.

Yes, the movie is incredibly faithful to the movie - almost as if...they're the same thing.
(Why are you posting about satisfaction in the ANGST thread?)

I was actually just wondering that myself. Um...well, I was really angsty about the lack of squid.

The movie ending mostly improved tenfold on the book ending.
That was a joke.

I think I'm somewhere in between Chupperson's and everyone else's opinion on the ending. I thought the replacement of the monster with Dr. Manhattan as the threat humanity had to band together against was a clever way to make the ending a "plot twist that directly involves a main character" situation instead of "purposefully over-the-top insane comic book-style" situation while at the same time keeping the core concept of what happened intact. Within their two respective mediums I think both endings work the best where they are. Also if you cried because of something not being exactly the same as the comic books just go read the comic books and you'll get your fix of exactly the sameness. The more important part of the ending, with Rorschach's journal was done very well and I was extremely pleased with that, along with the rest of the movie (especially how well Rorschach was portrayed, was that man genetically created to play that part???).

My theater was packed when I saw it opening day and at least 15% of the audience laughed out loud whenever blue dong made an appearance.

I concur with TEM. The movie would've probably been at least half an hour longer if the original ending had been kept just because of everything in the original series that led up to it (much of which would definitely not transfer well to film, such as the essay), and so the ending was a necessary change.
(Why are we still discussing this in the ANGST thread instead of giving it a thread of its own?)
