Game Help / Re: Super Mario Bros. DX Questions
« on: July 25, 2000, 05:52:53 PM »
If you care for my explanation of the minus world glitch, here it is.
SMB has a engine it uses to process data while you're scrolling through the levels. It processes all of the data on the screen and a little more so things won't just suddenly "appear" near the edge. This processing results in the appearence of enemies, blocks, etc., and also of course reads the data telling the Nintendo about all of these objects too. Well my explanation is that there is a certain point on the top of those blocks that you jump off of over a warp zone that tells the nintendo to set the world numbers over the pipes, show the "Welcome to warp zone!" text, etc. Well the game knows that that certain type of pipe(warp zone pipes) must always take you to a different world. However, when you go through the wall and enter the first pipe that leads to the "minus world", that "switch point" has not been processed yet, thus the game does not know which world to send you to. Thus, if you were to get there successfully, you would be taken to 4-1, but instead there is a blank space where the world number is, taking you to world _-1. So if it was really a "minus world", it would say "World -1-1." Of course, you probably don't get a word I said so never mind me anyway. I'm always trying to find out the real reason for these glitches. (Shrugs)

I have to agree with Mega 2. I just seem to have more fun playing regular Mario games rather than other Mario games of a different style like Super Mario 64 and Mario Party 2 (Hey - the Japanese Mario Party is...cool!). The Princess plot - it's a classic. Nothing needs changing there. 4 players would be nice, but I don't jump for joy about internet play. That's pressing it a little. Let's stay a little truer to the originals.

Please allow me to explain something to everyone pondering HTML on this board. The Fungi Forms run under a programming language called JavaScript, which to my knowledge is not at all compatible with HTML. The actual text that is desplayed as a reply or post is in JavaScript, and therefore putting HTML commands in your title just acts as regular text. Just clearing a few things up.

NOTICE: Don't waste your time reading this. Move on to the next message.

Most of you probably remember me going nuts about batteries going dead and carts loosing their save capability... and that your only choice was to buy another used one that probably had a dead battery as well because they are no longer making new ones(classic carts). Well, I would just like to tell the world that I have replaced a battery myself. Yes, it took some doing, but it was worth it. My SMAS cartridge actually saves. I got it used, and I've never known what it's like to be able to continue a game. Well now I know what it's like, thanks to a couple tools and a CR2032 lithium battery. I was unable to find a 2/16 in. hex-head screwdriver with a small enough base to fit in the depressed area, so I had to use a makeshift tool. But I just wanted to tell you, it's possible. Now I don't have to wait until Monday to call back that repair place so that they can call Nintendo and ask how to replace it. Hee hee hee, I got it free.

Ahhh... I see. I am extremely overexcited now. Check my other reply to see why. (Under "Are you tired of glitch after glitch?" or something)

Yeah, me too. It's just I've been forced to watch a lot of it when I used to go to parties, and that didn't bring back good memories. No offense intended.

Yes, Hinopio. That's the one I was referring to. I think he already left, however, the message I wouldn't know about.

Has anyone ever experienced any problems with saving? I think the lithium battery in my SMAS cartridge may be dying off.

True, true... I noticed that myself. I know that Black_yoshi posted a departure message, but the other two just seemed to slip through the civ. Anyone have any ideas?
