Man, remind me never to make a tongue-in-cheek comment on this board, ever.  Heh.

Heh, I think that commercial's hilarious.  Probably because of the mustaches on the kids.

"I guess people think murduring, robbing and all that other junk is cool."

I don't think it's a matter of that, really; people just think that PLAYING at murder and theft is cool.  I understand that you're not trying to tie violent video games to actual corruption but I also feel there's a difference between thinking murder is "cool," even within your own head, and enjoying video games where you murder people.

I mean, real-life cars or racing of any kind bore the hell out of me (is "hell" considered swearing on these boards?) but I still love all the Mario Kart and Diddy Kong Racing games, heh.  The video game world has nothing to do with the real world, at least not once you reach a certain maturity level and assuming you've had a halfway decent upbringing.

He ain't the only one Trainman!

Killa, you think MA-rated games are the reason the world is so "corrupt" nowadays?  I don't really see the logic there, enlighten me.

Rolling over in his grave . . . fweeeheeheehee.

I don't think what I wrote was mean; it was true, and that's the kind of criticism you get when you put your work out there on the Internet for others to read and agree or disagree with as they like.  My comment was meant to be constructive, and I'd have been more than willing to help Trainman edit his post as well as I could (he obviously has much more knowledge than I do about the hardware comprising the systems, and I salute him for that) if he hadn't already sent the letter.

Sorry if I offended you Trainman, but I don't think my comment was excessive or out of line.  I've gotten much worse from professors.

And angry letters aren't "supposed" to be long; if you want to get your point across to someone, it's supposed to be clear and concise.  An editorial, that's different.  (Although it's still poor writing to repeat yourself using different words that many times.)

Ooh, I forgot about SMW2.  I usually do, just because mentally I don't classify it as a "Mario" game, like Yoshi's Story and Wario's Woods and such.  You're right IS, its absence on the list is strange, unless they're like me and forgot about the games where you don't really play as Mario.

I do like SMW, though.  Not better, but about the same.

Looks like a pretty standard list.  You know, Super Mario Bros 3 always comes in first and is hailed as possibly the best platformer of all time, but I've never understood what it has that Super Mario World doesn't.  It's only an opinion, but I thought SMW offered so much more in terms of replay value (trying to uncover all 96 goals--I was stuck at 95 for years) and variety of levels/bosses/enemies/power-ups/pretty much everything.  SMB3 is so consistently rated above it that I have to wonder what exactly I missed in that one.

I'm shocked MP4 made the list, as I personally considered it to be the least fun of any of them by far--and I play an awful lot of Mario Party, heh.  I was also a bit surprised by Mario Golf.  Toadstool Tour's a lot better.

75% of the whole world?  I don't think Americans realize just how many people live in Africa.  And India, and China, and . . . places that aren't America.

Even in America I think the figure is no more than 30% or so.  Don't quote me on that--but it's definitely not nearly half.  One of the only minorities I belong to, then.  *shakes tummy at you threateningly, hee*

Trainman, your letter is biased, childish and far too long.  I doubt the editors of Time are going to bother even reading, let alone printing, a rant that goes on for over 3000 words.  It's all about being concise, my good man.  Also, it helps to use words that are actually in the dictionary.  (Funner?)

If you want to be taken seriously, you could do with a good editor.

Killa, I wouldn't judge MP5 by MP4--the two games are completely different games.  They're both Mario Parties and that's about all they have in common.

I like MP5, actually.  I know people complain about how many Mario Party games there are but I was glad they made it, just because I wanted one for the Cube and Mario Party 4 was so terrible I like to pretend it doesn't exist.  I'm not exactly on the edge of my seat for the next one or anything but there were some completely new features in MP5 that I enjoyed--for one thing, being able to play as Toad, Koopa Kid or Boo.  That's just a little thing but I thought it was nice that they mixed it up a bit since all the other games have basically the same cast over and over again (plus or minus Daisy and Waluigi).  Also, being able to play on teams is nice.  And some of the new mini-games actually were different for once, and quite fun.  I can go to mini-game mode and play 5-minute Piece Out over and over against a difficult computer character if I don't feel like having a "party," and it's like having a completely different game.

The music wasn't great though--usually there's at least one track I could listen to for hours on end (like the Bowser parade!) but not so here.  The voices were annoying too, as were the capsule events.

I wouldn't go so far as to give it a 2, because it is fun, as long as you're playing with someone else.  Maybe a 6 or 7.  And no, we don't need an MP6, at least not until we get a new system (if we ever do).

Mario Chat / Re: Who's your favorite koopaling?
« on: December 09, 2003, 12:09:13 AM »
I always liked Lemmy best, just because he seemed like the funniest and I liked his hair.  And Iggy too.  Weren't they twins?  I never saw the cartoon but got addicted to the Nintendo Power comics--of course my brother's subscription ran out about halfway through the storyline and I never got to see what happened.  Boo!  I'm going to have to troll eBay for the collection.

I also like the Koopa Kids in the Mario Party games, even though I don't consider them to be related to Bowser.

ETA that when we were trying to name our new kitten last winter and couldn't think of anything, I eventually ended up giving my mother a list of the male Koopalings and telling her to pick from that.  Roy's about a year old now, heh.
