Author Topic: Mario teaches math  (Read 4635 times)

« on: April 19, 2002, 02:30:25 PM »
In my math book, their is a reference to Dr. Mario. It involved some kid's Dr. Mario scores. The weird part about it is that it uses an image from the original SMB1.
I will get more details as I get hold of the book on monday  ( it's i my locker now.)

Cool! But why does Mario always appear in school textbooks? He's got so many appearances, They should make Mario School Books! :)
Mario teaches Math: Page 1.

It's About Time!   [Show mario and Peach picture here]
Whew! You're almost done with SMB!
You are trying for a record for shortest time completing World 8. Add the remaining Times to get the total so you can send off to the Records book!

.8-1: 231
.8-2: 116 (6 fireworks!)
.8-3:  52
+8-4:  74
------------
Total:473 remaining (The higher, the better!)

[show a SMW sprite of Mario doing a peace sign on Yoshi]
*end example*

Pretty funny, eh?

That was funny, but you did your math wrong.  Also, GoldenYoshi, you may want to consider shortening the number in your sig or putting a space in it so it doesn't make the width of EVERY post on the page wider than the screen.  (I HATE continuously scrolling left and right to view a whole post!)

Or, for a slightly younger class (2nd Grade or so)

You need 70 stars to enter the final level of Super Mario 64. You presently have 53 stars. How many more stars do you need?

Or, for a slightly higher level math:

Mario has 999 coins and wishes to buy as many Max Mushrooms as he can afford which sell for 39 coins each. How many can he afford?

Or for about 7th-8th grade...

Mario is presently standing at (0,0) on a coordinate grid. Bowser's Castle is at (6,4). If Mario took a large board and made a bridge to Bowser's Castle with it, What would be the slope of the board?

Heh, I can come up with A LOT more heh heh heh

How about this?

Princess Peach's Castle is circular with a radius of 2 at (0,0) and Mario needs to know the point at which Bowser will attack the castle so he can set a trap. Bowser planned that he would attack where it was 60° because that was where it was weakest. Where should Mario expect Bowser to attack?

Or this?

The trap Mario decided on was to drop a POW Block from a tower on Peach's castle 21.6 meters above where the 2m tall Bowser would attack. But he needs to know how many seconds before Bowser's attack to drop it from so it would land right on his head.

I could make harder problems, but I don't know a way to involve Mario in them.

Mario:Hey, where''s Luigi?
Toad:I think he''s on that new adult site.
Mario:Daisy''s gonna be furious!
Luigi:Oooh, yeah!!
Mario:Luigi, stop being a dirty b*stard and get your a*s over here!
Luigi:Hey, that picture stopped downloading. D*mn server!
Mario:I did that! If you don''t stop looking up naked b*tches online, I''ll....
Peach:Don''t worry kids. When Mario and Luigi stop swearing, we''ll continue the adventure.

Wow so my computer isn't the only one with a scroll problem.

Mario teaches Reading. :)

[Place a whole bunch of stories and fanfics here]

another problem for the high grades:

on a single jump, Mario can jump 2 feet(?). on each jump in a row after that, he jumps and additional 1.5 feet. He has to get to a platform 5.5 feet high (He can just barely make it, too) is this possible in 3 jumps?

.2
.1.5
+1.5
----
.5 feet
No, he can't. .5 feet short

I played uper Mario Bros. 5 times and my scores were 288000, 515550, 310850, 102900, and 585850.  What is my average score?

I got a score of 140962 on Super Mario World.  How is this impossible? (Answer: all SMW scores end in zero.)

A Koopa runs 8 MPH and Mario runs at 9 MPH. If Mario is 12 feet behind the Koopa, how long will it take for Mario to catch him?

For YI:

Yoshi has only 2 seconds to throw his one and only egg. He could either throw it at a "?" Cloud for unknown things, or bounce it 3 times into the ravens for 2 stars. Or he could throw it at the boss next to him, but the target is hard to reach. Baby Mario has 28 seconds on his crying meter. What would be the best thing?
Hint: The cloud is 14 feet away, the Raven, 15 feet away,. and the boss, 11 feet away. The Bouning would add on 2 seconds to the time to reach the Target. Assuming and egg moves at 5 feet/second, what should you do for the Best of Yoshi?

(this is weird, but is the Rainbow egg only in one level? You know, the one that gives you a red coin on impact? It's super-rare! And where's the Boo Man Bluff ghost in
YI?)

Nope, the rainbow eggs are in 3 levels, to my knowledge... (there may be another one) 1-6, 1-7, and Extra 4.

And the best answer to your YI question is to throw the egg at Baby Mario instead, so that he comes down right to you!

I think the Boo Man Bluff ghosts are those ghosts with blindfolds in some of the levels.

ah well, I am gettnig off topic, so here goes.

If you have 30 lives going into Tubular, but you suck at Tubular and can only beat it 1/50 times, what are the odds you will beat it before Game Over?

yes, but for the problem you have to ASSUME you can only beat Tubular 1/50 times. I can beat it about 1/5 times with the P-balloon, and 2/3 times with the Blue Yoshi and cape trick. The answer (well for you it may be 1) Would therefore be 60%.
