Mario Chat / Re: Rosalina's Storybook in SMG (possible spoilers)
« on: April 30, 2008, 09:08:39 PM »
I liked the illustrations a lot. That was some nice artwork. I was also surprised that it dealt with something a little weightier than most Mario games.

I'll put it in Spoilers:  How Rosalina copes with the death of her mother. I went back and re -read the story book and at first she just says that her mom is in the wind, and the stars. It isn't until nearer to the end that she really comes to grip with the fact her mom is dead. That sort of thing can be pretty brutal, even or adults.

Friend Codes / Re: Mario Kart Wii

I'm adding everyone on the list. However, since the numbers are small, I might have typo'd some friend codes.

Choco-EDIT: It would be cool to set up a TMK Race night sometime.

Check it out! Not only is the story of my...err....a hypothetical Chocobo's first crush and first rejection forever crystallized on the internet but it's also been reclassified as a Fan creation at some point.

Video Game Chat / Re: Robotnik or Eggman

That's interesting. I' don't actually recall ever seeing an actual instruction manual to the original Super Mario Bros. I guess I must have lost it before I even learned how to read.

You know, this is exactly like what happened to Bowser.

Remember when his only name was King Koopa?

Or when Peach was just "The Princess" or "Princess Toadstool"?

It's like that. I actually have grown to like the name Dr. Eggman...It fits his more bizarre personality in the Post S&K3 games. Robotnik does sound more menacing but I don't think that he's meant to be THAT menacing in the games. He's the bad guy, sure, but all of his robots are shaped like little animals and bugs. He's my favorite out of all of video gaming history's famous evil mad scientists. Oh, and I use the two names interchangeably.

Mario Chat / Re: BEST IN SERIES? Week 12: Non-Bowser bosses.
« on: April 27, 2008, 05:46:05 PM »
I'll have to say SMW:YI had the best non-Bowser battles. Raphael the Raven , Hookbill the Koopa, Sluggy or whatver his name was, and the Biggest Boo.  Those boss battles were a delight to battle with.

The way there's all of those extra Maroi's floating around in the background it almost seems like some sort of trippy music video. The only other thing I can really say is that it seems like Mario is pretty big in proportion to the rest of the screen. That might make it harder to make jumps/traps and what not.

I have a nomination for a category, Bird Person. Best Non-Bowser Villain. I bet that would invoke some interesting discussions.

That's a really tender exchange between Mario and Peach...excellent facial expressions.

The fact that Sonic's attacks are mostly spin attacks dates back to his old Genesis games. You had three buttons -- A, B, and C -- but all they did was make Sonic jump or charge up a spin dash. It's a really cool homage, as a big Sonic fan. (And I have high hopes for Sonic Chronicles...the artstyle is about the best Sonic's ever looked, I think.)

I haven't gone back to play Melee yet. I'm really afraid to. The next time I play Melee I'm going to be seeing it through a completely different set of eyes and have another game to compare it to and I don't think I'm emotionally ready to go there just yet.

I'm going to go for Mairo 64, with the Penguin races down the Ice Slide.  The penguin(s) were cute and the slide was a pretty good use of three-dimensional stage design back in the day. I mean, those curves!

TMK does have a pretty good section on this kind of thing.

I found this Allusion the most entertaining: http://themushroomkingdom.net/images/ss/cameo/aoxxl2mlv.jpg

I'm really looking forward to this game, but I'm also sort of dreading it. I wish it would come out in May because I'm still knee-deep in Brawl. I'll have to try and balance the two, I s'pose. Also, I got this coupon from Best Best where you get triple the amount of Reward Zone points for one purchase during April. I'm totally going to do that. I'm also glad to see that Koopa Troopa is a playable character from the start. He was my favorite racer in the first Mario Kart so I'm pretty pleaesd whenever he comes back.

Mario Chat / Has Mario ever appeared on Non-Nintendo systems?
« on: April 18, 2008, 06:45:39 PM »
I don't know why, but this question popped up into my mind today. Has Mario ever appeared on Non-Nintendo systems? The only instance I could think of was Donkey Kong being released on one of the pre 8-bit systems, the Atari Something. I vaguely remember Mario was supposed to be a hidden character in some basketball game a few years back but I wasn't certain if that game was a mutli-system game or not. I'd also be very interested in any would-be Marios that appear  -- you know, Marios that are different enough from the copyright that they can get snuck into games. If there are any.
