My favorite way to play Brawl is with the Wii Remote and Nunchuck. It feels odd at first, but after a while it feels very natural, much like Super Mario Galaxy and Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess.

I haven't tried anything but GCN controller but remote+nunchuk takes its toll on my hands after a couple hours.
That was a joke.

I've tried playing with a GCN controller for all of 2 minutes for one round of a tournament. It was fine and felt familiar.

Wiimote + Nunchuk, though.

I've only tried Classic Controller, and I like it!

I've only used a Wavebird.  I noticed people buying non-Nintendo GCN controllers yesterday.  Nintendo could have sold some Wii themed Wavebirds with the release of SSBB.  Oh well, mine still works fine.

I imagine that if I had a Wii and SSBB, I would probably still use the gamecube controller instead of flailing around with the Wii Remote(s)

EDIT: Nevermind.

When I eventually play the game, I'll almost certainly be using a GCN controller.

I've only used the GC Controller, but I plan on trying the WiiMote+nunchuk eventually. To be honest, I'm not really a fan of motion sensing as a default control scheme. I only like it as an option or required for certain games. I certainly grasp that it's the selling point for the system, though, and it will be used whenever possible.

When I was playing with my boyfriend, I used my CGN controller. It works just fine.

Right now I'm sticking to familiar territory with the GCN controller, but I'll try other schemes.

I only use the GCN controller with the following scheme mods:

Up to jump turned off
L changed to jump (Y/X still jump too) -- This is useful in situations where you're charging a move with B but need to jump (Dedede's hammer, etc.)

Note: Wii remote and Nunchuck does not require any wrist movements. You hold it still.

I stuck with the GameCube controller. But I'll probably try the others.

What SolidShroom said. I just got done playing about 15 minutes of it at Gamestop (they have the full game on their Wii display, which surprised me) with the Wiimote/Nunchuck setup. It was awkward at first, I kept hitting A to jump, and I kept forgetting that B was an attack button as well, but eventually I got the hang of it, and it rocked. There is no motion interacting at all, just pushes of buttons.

GC controller for me. The Wiimote is fine, not that I tried it much. The Wiimote + Nunchuck is alright, but sometimes I go in the wrong direction. The Classic Controller would be great if it wasn't for the bad control stick. I wish I could map moving to the direction pad...

Cube, hands down. I haven't tried anything else and I don't need to (however, there have been a lot of moments in the game where I start thinking, "hey, this would work pretty cool with the Wii Remote pointer...").

That's a good scheme.  I think I'll change Z to Y.  The Z button is difficult to press while brawling and I hate getting stuck with an item I don't want or when I want a different item.

I like the Gamecube scheme. I haven't really tried the others, but I don't think I will.

Really guys the nunchuk DOES feel good, I don't get why everyone is so turned off by it and any other scheme for the GCN controller. It's nice yes but with the Wiimote and nunchuk I could sit down with my hands apart, which feels even more natural to me than having them close together.

Either the Gamecube scheme or the Wii Remote scheme. The GC scheme was very familiar to me and I adapted well. The Wii Remote without the Nunchuk works for me because it's incredibly simple to control. The Wii Remote with the Nunchuk is okay though; it's just not my preference.

I cannot imagine not using the GameCube's controller. Let's piece this apart...
Remote: There is no way a D-Pad could offer the precision I need, there's no C-stick (I use the C-stick FAR more often than the A button), no equivalent for X to jump, I am used to using R to shield, etc.
Remote + Nunchuk: No. I'd use B for shielding, A for A-attacks, and already I have nowhere to go for special attacks and no potential jump button.
Classic Controller: Hmaah. I don't have one, but isn't the D-Pad where the control stick should be?

When I got Brawl I started out with the GameCube controller in order to adjust to the game's new physics. After a while I decided to try out the Wii Remote on its side. At first it felt clunky, but then I got used to it and found that the control scheme felt easier than GameCube. I've been using it as my main controller since. BTW, when I had a friend of mine play, he found the Classic Controller easiest to use as the last time he'd ever played Smash was when he played his Nintendo 64 (he primarily plays PC games), so he felt at home with it.

GCN all the way.  Otherwise, I would have been learning the new controls for weeks and not unlocking characters/stages/music.
