Interesting: "Mario's" hat says "Ma," but Luigi's says "Ki." What's with "Ki?" (I would think it would say "Ru," or what I identify as a curly three)

Today I realized that the guy on the best boxart ever is wearing Mario clothes kind of. (I know the SNES is a Nintendo system).

Is that supposed to be a sick joke?  Or a real but still wrong game?

Nope.  I didn't really get into video games until the PS1 came out... brings back memories.

There was also a GBA port of the game, with completely different box art.

Is that banjo player guy in the game in any form? What the hell is his purpose for being on the box?

Is that seriously how the SNES boxart for Phalanx is?

It's a shump for crying outloud. I have the GBA port and it's decent.

It catches your attention and seems less generic, doesn't it?
That was a joke.

I guess that's the key to marketing a game to a casual gamer, isn't it?

Or the key to marketing to a discerning gamer in a sea of similar games. In the case of side scrolling space shooters, ridiculously similar games.
That was a joke.

The boxart is definitely a win.

I thought it was a reference to Star Trek: Voyager having an old man playing the banjo in its first episode, but I don't think that came out until later.
CURSE YOU... SOMEBODY!

Phalanx - 1992
Voyager: "Caretaker" - 1995
That was a joke.
