What design of Donkey Kong do you prefer?  His classic Nintendo style or his modern Rare design?

Anyway, I don't really like many of the new designs. The eye area bugs me so much. What has fur around their eyes when the rest of their face is bald?

Also, I "lost" on that albino ape as well, probably because (somehow) of Bigluigifan's post.

God's right. I guess by process of elimination it could be considered to be in the top three or so DK games, but it's mostly just a Banjo-Kazooie-esque collectathon with all the things that go with it (irritating voice samples, frustrating boss battles, and one or two fairly off-putting elements that remind you Nintendo didn't really develop it). That's not to say I didn't enjoy it as a kid, though...

« Reply #40 on: June 10, 2009, 02:43:57 PM »
The success of a game doesn't rely on quality as so much as advertisement or special effects.  Look at games like Kingdom Hearts, they did so well because of advertisement, but the gameplay itself is a different story.

What I mean by success is how many copies the game sold.  I mean, look at great games like Earthbound, they didn't sell so well, but its still an awesome game, better than most games out today.  In not saying that great games=bad sales or bad games=great sales, I'm saying that game quality=/=success of the game.

Rare's design. It is, in my opinion, the coolest looking one probably because it was modeled on a real gorilla.

I wouldn't mind the toothy grin if it was more realistic and less creepy, like his grin in Brawl.

Wait... what?!? Not really

I miss Rare working with Nintendo also. Donkey Kong Country, Goldneye007 and Perfect Dark were good and now they just suck as a company. Maybe people should stop buying the new Rare games and tell them even though it probably won't bring them back in Nintendo's hands but it's still a funny idea.

For Donkey Kong I wanted something to do with 'Kong' which kind of gives the idea of apes in Japanese and I came up with Donkey Kong because I heard that 'donkey' meant 'stupid' so I went with Donkey Kong. Unfortunately when I said that name to Nintendo of America nobody liked it and said that it didn't mean 'Stupid Ape' and they all laughed at me! But we went ahead with that name anyway.

You know, it really only works with ass, since that's another word for donkey. Instead of coming up with other words for ass, you should either use synonyms of donkey or of stupid (i.e., Burro Kong or Dullard Kong).

Also, the point of my post with all the pictures a couple pages back was that there's two very different Nintendo designs of DK, and the current one is really quite similar to the Rare designs.

The only difference I can see is... well, considering that the Kongs have retractable teeth in Brawl, nothing. Except their voices. I liked their voices in Donkey Kong 64 (I didn't play a lot of it but I do remember the voices). I just plain never liked the weird noises Donkey Kong made in Mario Kart (any) and I don't like monkey noises like those Diddy makes in Brawl. So whatever.
