Yoshi's just live in all those places.  I guess they migrated a long time ago.

In PM, it said that Yoshis and Ravens arrived in Lavalava Island after the natives disappeared.  Both lived on Yoshi's Island (See SMW2), so apparently some of them moved to LL Island, which is why they're there now.  Must've been shortly after Mario and Luigi were born, since Raphael was still on YI then.

(Wow, I'm quite the researcher! lol)

Something tells me that the Raphael in PM is different than the Raphael in YI (Related, but NOT the same.) ... I believe this because, after to beat Raphael in YI, he becomes a constellation (Of one star, heh) somehow. How can he suddenly go back to Lavalava Island afterwards?

As for the other island issue, I duly believe, like many of you have said, that there is a large archipelago (... FINE! Island chain.) where the species of Yoshies live.... Yoshi's Island being the largest and most well known. Lavalava Island and Delfino Island are others. (I used this idea to create about 3 more islands in the only Mario fanfic I've ever written.)

Yo'ster Isle is more than likely a mere vacation spot; None of the Yoshies actually live there, I don't think. That, and it can also be used as a gambling facility. Think of it as one of those hotel/casino deals in the real world.

Of course, there's the pressing question of why there's a large bridge connecting Yoshi's island to the Donuts Plains in SMW, but not in YI. And is the bridge still there now? And how would someone undertake such a large project? Yoshi's Island must not be too far from the mainland at all.

Meh, that was a lot of rambling about nothing.

I've always thought of the two Raphaels as one.  After you fight him in 5-8 of Yoshi's Island, he is banished, still furious from the battle, to a star in the heavens, the Raphael constellation.  There, over many decades, he sat, helpless.  He watched the world below and reflected on it, because that's all he could do; his anger eventually dyed down when he saw the futility of it.  The isolation brought him a newfound wisdom, and when he came down (I don't know how this happens; there's probably a good story behind it) he changed the manner of life of himself and his underlings, which is why he and the other ravens peaceful and helpful to both Mario and the Yoshis in Paper Mario.
I dunno.  Something like that.  And if you're willing to believe that Yoshi and Raph actually had a battle on the moon in the first place, I don't think this theory is any more incredible.

Heh.... and what exactly happened to that Dark Blue Yoshi that fought Raphael, anyways? I mean, he wasn't BACK for 6-8. I mean, if he's really on the moon, wouldn't he have suffocated after while? Heh...

Of course, my good friend Ivan believes that Yoshi DOESN'T breathe... He notices that when you're underwater on a SMW level... air bubbles come from Mario, but not Yoshi. Of course... my friend also believes that Yoshi is an alcoholic... and of course, there's the "Don't Pick the Green One" strategy (i'll explain if someone asks.)

Anyways... That's yet another .... interesting view of it.

Well Baby Mario was up there too and he didn't suffocate.  And even if Yoshi didn't breathe, he would still pop in space because of the lack of pressure.  Also he could freeze, be pummled by micrometeorites, or he could get fried by harmful radiation.  :)

You're all forgetting one thing:
It's a Mario game! Weird, magical stuff that doesn't make any sense happens all the time in the Mushroom World! Besides, the green Yoshi had to beat Bowser 'cuz it's THE Yoshi. It wouldn't be right if the blue Yoshi beat him.

On a side note, ever notice when you beat one of the extra levels in YI, Yoshi passes baby Mario back to himself? Green passing to green? Now that's weird, considering there're only 6 Yoshis on this adventure and all are diff colors.

Oh my, no.
There are many Yoshis of all colors, and green is simply the most common.

But let's not get Steve started on that again, shall we?

Oh yeah, and I agree, Yoshi (and Mario, and Raphael) would die of explosive decompression if it were really the Moon. Maybe they were in the Blue Area of the Moon that the Inhumans live in. (See Marvel Comics.)
Or Kamek could have just cast a spell to make them able to breathe on the Moon...

(Should the moon be capitalized like that?)
