Not really, I respect all consoles, unlike some people here.

I don't see why everybody has the image that if you like Nintendo, you can't like Sony. Heck, I like 'em all. I haven't really tried XBox that much, but from what I hear, it sounds pretty fun.

Now, if you go and say that Playstation is better than Nintendo, I might have some beef with you. And maybe a little mashed potatoes on the side.

i don't hate you,and i like many consoles, the only console i hate is atari.

I pretty much repect all consoles, but whether I actually play them, or even like them for that matter is a different story.  I pretty much keep my mouth shut.  If people start badmouthing Nentendo in it's entirety, though, I can get pretty mean.
Bottom line: No, I don't hate you or dislike you at all for that matter.

Actually, I can never decide whether I like Nentendo or Palaystation better.

Nah. PLaystation is alright in my book.

I ama loyal and devoted Nintendo fan.

Playstation isn't bad, however I just don't own one due to financial reasons.

X-Box is the only console I really dislike.

I used to be a HUGE Sega fan when I first came here.
So I'm not JUST a Nintendo junkie, and I understand.
Besides, I love my PSOne :)

Thanks. I agree, Playstation's cool but I like Nintendo better. I have a PS2, plus I have SNES, N64 and a GBA. Once I have a GameCube, All will be perfect.

How can you people afford all of these things? I'm lucky to get two games a year, and my average system interval has been four years. I dont know If I like PS2 or X-Box because I've only played SNES, N64, GC, and a couple of GBA on my GBP.

Well see, We don't have a TON of money like it sounds. We got each of them one at a time. We got the SNES Years ago when I was just a baby, then the N64 when I was about 6 or 7, the GBA sometime last year and the PS2 a few months ago. Although we have been making more money lately cuz of my dads new job.

Well, if that's the Canadian version of Popple, Gamecube games only cost $50 in America. Reminds me of a Simpsons quote...

"Excuse me, but this is a restricted area..."
"Will an American dollar change your mind?"
"Oh, eh, it sure will!"
I don't remember if those are the exact words, 'cause that episode hasn't been on recently.

Yeah that's what it was. I knew he said something about breakfast, but then I figured I wouldn't say anything at the risk of looking stupid, which I ended up doing anyway.

I have heard that Nintendo means "From Heaven" or "From God" but I've also heard that it's a combo of three words, all being synonyms for fun. (Nin = Fun, Ten = Fun, Do = Fun) I'm not sure which is true... I'd put my money on the "from Heaven" thing.

Nintendo is composed of 3 Japanese Kanji characters, Nin-ten-do which can be translated to "Heaven blesses hard work".

I found information on this excellent page.

I give the systems crap ONLY when people around me say, "o well gay-cube suks hard y r u such a pansy and play that gay mario crap" (exaggerated; if someone did say that, I would lay them out cold.)

Yeah, PS2 is hard to get used to if you haven't played it in a while, but I'll play racing games on it like Burnout 2: PI or NFS:U, but nothing else.

Xbox just really sucks. I CANNOT stand it. It is so stupid and Gates just wanted to stick his nose into it just to say he did.

Nintendo also doesn't mean "Heaven blesses hard work"

任-To leave in order of; ex: I'll leave this task up to you.

天-Heaven

堂-Suffix added to companies sometimes; ex: Shiseido=資生堂

It seems to me it would translate to "Shop in heaven's hands"... but what do I know?
200 characters and nothing to say.

« Reply #25 on: June 19, 2004, 05:55:01 PM »
That's what the site said: "Nintendo (”C“V“°) (Ninten is translated roughly as "leave luck to heaven" or "in heaven's hands," do is a common suffix for names of shops or laboratories.)"

Judging by the other site, I'd assume that they took the "shop suffix" at the end to mean that hard work put you in heaven's hands. Perhaps that what the saying does mean, if you don't worry about translating literally and worry about what that string of sounds actually means in Japanese language culture? (I don't know, just theorizing. If anyway knows Japanese language culture, shoot.)

It's okay if you like PlayStation. I love PlayStation, but Nintendo is my favorite game company!

Microsoft's Xbox is really pathetic. The Xbox has been around for about 3 years, and it is not even successful in Japan! Microsoft thinks games like Halo (and Halo 2) will win the Japanese market. Yeah, right...

The reason I do not like Xbox is because it does NOT have any variety of games. All the popular games on Xbox are shooters, sports, and racing. BORING!

I love Nintendo (and PlayStation) because they have a large variety of games. Their games are available in all types of genres, and they have plenty of family games!

People who like video games should also like Nintendo. People who don't like Nintendo obviously don't like video games.

Japanese language culture?  Who would know about that?  Anyways, Nintendo's "ninten" could be LITERALLY translated as "to leave up to heaven."  However, no one in Japan would look at "Nintendo" that way.
By thinking that it has symbolic value etc., the Japanese would turn on something like MK:DD to have Mario say to them, in his Italian accent, "Leave up to heaven!!"  That would be wierd...
