For a single person issuing a review score for something, 5-star scale is about as good as it gets. But for a mass grading system like YouTube, the human nature of 1-or-5 makes it nearly meaningless. Your quote actually illustrates the absurdity:

This new system takes the problem explained in the link to a further extreme by not even offering the option of balanced ratings. My aforementioned quote implied how this "thumbs-up/down" deal does nothing to remedy the issue, but instead worsens it.
