I know it's a little late, but yesterday, March 10th, was Mario Day! Why? Because it's March 10th! You know, Mar. 10th! You know, Mar.10! You know, Mar10! You know, Mario!
Sorry, that's just the best way I know (through text) to explain where Mario Day comes from. Did you do anything special to celebrate?
I re-discovered Mario Kart Wii, and the fact that I think it's my favorite entry in the series. Later tonight, I'm going to spend some quality time with Mario Galaxy, though somewhat ironically, I'll be playing as Luigi... but hey, his last name is Mario!
This little shindig has certainly rekindled my love of the Mario universe, all the wacky characters and fun adventures I've grown up loving. It just creates such a warm fuzzy feeling in my soul. Sure, I might spend more of my gaming time on my 360 nowadays, but nothing can replace that Nintendo magic, of which Mario is the master wizard.
-
On the 9th, I played a full hour of Mario music on the campus radio station during my block. And I did all the announcements in my best Mario voice, which occasionally seeped into a Jar Jar voice.
-
I just realized that my birthday is one day after Mario Day.
-
I just realized that the 11th is PL's birthday.
Congrats on not dying for another year! You're officially not younger than me for the next 8.5 months!
Also, I just realized that some daylight savings time stuff is messed up on my end here.
-
I'm freaking out because billy chilly just posted.
-
Aurgh, I forgot!
-
So when is Lou E G?
-
The 14th is Maria Day.

Just when I got Jim Henson's version of Peter Jackson's Gollum out of my head, you go and put it back into it.
-
Who, Maria?
-
No, that little red... thing!
-
Who, Mario?
-
I celebrated by staying in bed with influenza-a. It's been a horrible week.

Happy Mariz Day!

Mariz is a Portugeuse parish with a population of 428.

He's gonna kill me!!!!
It's like I watched a cursed video tape covered with that little red murderer!

I think Mario day officially started somewhere in Florida, maybe Miami. The state officially declared it in the late 80's.
...you see, this is what happens when Florida isn't occupied by hurricanes: Minds wander and start making holidays like this. There's a machine in Florida that turns convicts and sereal killers into Hurricanes. They then proceed to destroy Florida and force them to rebuild. This cycle is intended to occupy Florida and keep it busy.. unfortunately when no hurricanes occur... well... you see.
-
Oh yeah, I remember that article... I think it was "Fun Day"?
-
Happy Marie day!

It's actually Maris Day, but I'll let it slide because that was an awesome movie.

:(
And the Aristocats was Okay, but Oliver & Company owns all other animated Disney movies.
-
I think A Goofy Movie gives it a run for its money, especially with the Tevin Campell songs.
As long as we're on the subject, I should mention that I actually kind of like Lion King 2. Also, Simba's singing voice in there is Kratos from TOS. That blew my mind a little.
-
A Goofy Movie wins for being a Road Movie.
And the Lion King 2 was okay, but I blame that for those garbage Disney Movie sequels that followed (Cinderella 2? CINDERELLA TWO???? YOU'RE KIDDING RIGHT?)
-
Fox and the Hound 2 FTL. But at least Disney never sunk to the depths of Universal. Balto 3 (http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0423849/)? Seriously? How do you even make a sequel to a movie based on a true story, let alone two of them? And Land Before Time 13. I feel sorry for Don Bluth. Every awesome movie he ever made either faded into obscurity (Rock-a-Doodle, Pebble and the Penguin) or had a bunch of lousy musical sequels made for it (American Tail, Secret of NIMH).
The original Disney Sequel was Return of Jafar, which was actually quite enjoyable, though it did start its progeny of sequels in the wrong direction by having noticeably lower-quality and off-model animation and not getting all the original voice actors back.
-
^ Indeed. (however grossly off-topic this whole discussion may be)
-
The original Disney sequel was actually the Rescuers Down Under. And Return of Jafar would be better termed as a follow-up since it was the gateway to the Aladdin Tv show.
Remember Tarzan 2? That title would have been okay if there wasn't ALREADY a Tarzan 2... all Disney sees is green.
-
Fox and the Hound 2 FTL.
You said it. Fox and the Hound 2 completely disgraced the original.
-
Oh, yeah, Rescuers Down Under was good. Probably the only Disney sequel that was arguably better than the original.
It's not animated, but if you want to talk about unnecessary Disney sequels, how about this (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Return_to_Oz)? Although they at least based it on the actual books that would have gone there.
Remember Tarzan 2? That title would have been okay if there wasn't ALREADY a Tarzan 2... all Disney sees is green.
What always gets me is how they had the animated 101 Dalmatians (underrated, btw; listen to Ken Jennings (http://ken-jennings.com/blog/?p=1101)), then the live-action 101 Dalmatians, then the live-action 102 Dalmatians, and then the animated 101 Dalmatians 2. And a TV show.
-
101 Dalmatians was always one of my favorites...
-
I don't understand why the critics dislike Robin Hood so much. That one was also one of my favorites.
I pray to God that they don't make a Robin Hood 2.
-
The only part of Robin Hood I didn't like was that obnoxious rooster and his whistling.
-
Yeah, that one's definitely in my top number too. I remember the time we watched it in my eighth grade history class, for some totally forgotten reason (although I had already watched it hundreds of times before). We started around the 9th or 10th of September, and on the 11th, they told us about the planes right at the beginning of class, and we convinced the teacher to let us keep watching the movie instead of taking the test we were supposed to take that day. After school I got a tetanus shot.
The tape we had of it (at home, not at school) was one of the bunches of movies my mom had recorded off of a local ABC channel back in the late 80s and early 90s, so part of the reason I liked watching it so much was all the old commercials. Remember Tornado Rex? Yeah, that was pretty cool. There was a pretty long time, from about 1993 to about 1997 (it seemed longer because I was between the ages of 3 and 7), where we had a TV but didn't get any reception from anything, so we just watched VHSs all day. So yeah, those movies and their commercials have a pretty special place in my heart.
And I kinda like the whistling.
-
Looking back at Robin Hood, something about it seems off, but I didn't care back then just because of all the animals. Most of all I liked Prince John (especially his laugh, AH-haaaa) and Sir Hiss.
Plus, Pat Buttram's voice is recognizable anywhere. I had newfound respect for him when I saw him in "Green Acres" as Mr. Haney with the same voice and coming up with outrageous things to sell, mostly because he was even funnier in that show.
I like Lion King 2 a lot, even though I gloss over a lot of it like a couple of the horrible songs, Nuka, and how overprotective Simba is. I just watch it for Kovu and the two songs "We Are One" and "Love Will Find a Way".
Answer to how you can make a sequel to a true story: you can't, unless there was some other amazing true story to come later. They just invented new storylines for Balto and company. And I hated both of them. Balto 2 at least looked gorgeous and I really like how Aleu looks, but I couldn't get into the spiritual storyline. Balto 3 I wish I could forget, seemed very generic, and Stella definitely brought down the film even further. So although Balto 2 botched its storyline, at least it was more daring. Balto coming to grips with airplanes being the new mode of transportation wasn't anywhere as dramatic as I thought it would be.
I seem to remember people were making a big deal out of Sam from LotR being the voice of Kodi though. Mm, okay job I guess.
By the way, Bobby in "A Goofy Movie" was voiced by Pauly Shore. I guess as long as he's a voiceover, he doesn't grate as much. Honestly it's been so long that I don't even remember what this weasel or weaze thing is anymore. The only thing about Bobby I remember is "the leaning tower of cheese-a".
-
Kovu has the same voice as Max from Goofy Movie and Tino from the Weekenders and Rosh Penin from Jedi Academy and Nelson from Full House and Young Burt Ward in Adam & Burt: Back to the Batcave. Also, the main character on Beck sounds kind of like him in the English dub, but I don't think it's him. Also, he's the voice they should have had for Lloyd in TOS:DOTNW since they couldn't get the awesome original guy back. But they didn't, and instead they went with a guy who not only doesn't sound anything like the original guy but doesn't even sound interesting on his own. For the guy who's pretty much the whole point of the plot, at least for the first 80% or so, they really should have put more effort in.

What? I though Alan-a-Dale was awesome.

He's also the voice of the.. River God in Spirited Away. Haku, maybe?

Well, perhaps I phrased it wrong. I didn't like the whistling. The voice and character were good.
-
There's no need to explain. If you don't like him, that's your opinion.
I kinda enjoyed his whistling, actually. I dunno, maybe it's because I envy him. I can't whistle. :P
-
I can whistle pretty decently, but barely a full octave.
