Well, this serves as a counterpart to the What's For Dinner topic, so let's post.
Yesterday I had a hard-boiled egg.
-
-
I had what MEGAߥTE had.
-
Isn't breakfast supposed to be the most important meal of the day?
-
Yes. If you don't eat breakfast your body wont be prepared for the day. You are also starving yourself if you don't eat breakfast. Because you haven't eaten for the whole time you were sleeping your body clings to every calorie because it is starving. In conclusion, if you don't eat breakfast, then you will gain weight. My cousin claims that that isn't true and doesn't eat breakfast to 'loose' weight even thought the opposite thing is happening.
-
Heh, I rarely ever eat breakfast and I've never gained weight.
-
It is still very unhealthy to not eat breakfast.
-
I love breakfast. I always eat breakfast. Breakfast pwns. My day doesn't start until I've eaten breakfast.
Today, I had Honey Bunches of Oats and some toast.
-
I agree with Bird Person.
This morning, I had some waffles.
-
Ha, if you read one of my later posts on the Dinner thread, you'll see that sometimes I neglect to eat ENTIRELY over the course of a day. Then again, these days where I neglect to eat are becoming alarmingly frequent as of recent -- I didn't eat anything last Monday and didn't eat until about 9:00 PM yesterday... and, well, I still haven't eaten today, and it's past 4:00 PM. I almost never eat breakfast.
There might be something wrong with me. I don't know. I've got some really unintentional yet self-destructive habits.
-
I had some cherry Pop-Tarts.
I love breakfast. I always eat breakfast. Breakfast pwns. My day doesn't start until I've eaten breakfast.
YES.
-
I just remembered that I forgot to post what I had today, so I ahd French Toast. There.
-
HoneyComb's probably...
-
Eggs, bacon and Cereal. Usually Wheaties.
-
I'm with IS, I never eat breakfast. Occasionally on the weekend...but that's about it.
-
I always have cereal topped with milk. Usually Honey Bunches of Oats, nowadays.
-
My eating gets all weird in the summer.
-
I try to get wheat-freee cereal, because I'm some sort of hypochondriac. So for cereal I migt have Rice Krispies with a banana sliced on top, or some weird kind from Trader Joe's. Or if my mom makes something, I'll eat that, because she makes stuff like scones or pancakes or scrambled eggs that she tries to force everyone to have. I don't like to miss breakfast because if I do, I end up sitting in my first few classes and my stomach growls, and that to me is very embarrassing, and I'm not sure why. Usually I don't eat breakfast if I forget. If I'm running late, I try to shove something in my mouth, like some lunchmeat or a fruit or something.
-
I don't eat breakfast often. But I ate some kind of honey popcorn with peanuts this morning.
-
I had what MB and IS had. Actually, considering I got up at like 3 PM, I guess my breakfast was actually dinner.
I eat when I'm hungry, regardless of what time of day it is or how soon it is after I get up. Usually I eat something within the next few hours after I get up, but that's only because that's when I tend to get hungry. In a sense, I don't believe in "meals"--allotted times of day to eat.
Also, I find it hard to eat whole, complete meals--especially in the morning. Usually I have about two "snacks" a day--which I guess would be something like most people's "breakfast" and "lunch"--and then a normal meal at dinner (although with the hours I've been keeping, it's pretty much dinner is my "breakfast" and my snacks are late at night). I also don't believe in eating certain foods at certain times a day. I eat whatever sounds good that's available.
Yeah, I'm a total non-conformist in the meal department.
-
That's what happens to me in the summer. I am doing other things and a forget to eat. This never happens when school is in full swing.
-
i very rarely eat cereal...insted....
i eat pop tarts!
-
I had a shot of green tea and plan to have a can of Monster Khoas, and some dark chocolate while on the road.
Yesterday I had half a whole wheat english muffin with tomatoes, swiss cheese, and omega-3 eggs on top along with a glass of not form concentrate orange juice.
-
I had Cocoa Krispies.
-
In conclusion, if you don't eat breakfast, then you will gain weight.
Source?
Anyway, after breaking my fasts with a banana and Cheerios for a long time, today I went crazy and had Froot Loops instead!!!~~~~
-
You know the best part about then Froot Loops? I'll tell you! The last little bit in the bag.
In this last portion, there is a fine colorful powder. When milk is poured on this powder in the right manner (not to fast, not too slow), the power forms little bubbles. These bubbles do not get wet. when all the milk is consumed, the dry colorful powder remains, then fee free to lick the bowl clean.
-
today I had green eggs and ham. and some toast, but since I had no bread, I used hamburger buns!
-
Source?
Health books, health teachers, and doctors. Didn't you learn this in school? I thought everybody knew that.
-
Omigosh, I had sausage patties, pancakes, cheese and eggs, and orange juice this morning.
-
I learned that you gain weight by taking in more calories than you burn. If you're not eating, you're not taking in calories.
Edit: People dying from starvation are certainly not gaining weight by skipping meals.
-
I don't know how I would make it through the day without breakfast, its really that eccential.
-
More Pop-Tarts today. I usually get the cherry flavor. Seems to me that the frosting on them is bettter than the frosting on other flavors.
-
I learned that you gain weight by taking in more calories than you burn. If you're not eating, you're not taking in calories.
Edit: People dying from starvation are certainly not gaining weight by skipping meals.
Not eating breakfast. If you eat the other two meals and not breakfast then you will have a greater chance of gaining weight. I have already explained why in one of my previous posts.
-
You're still wrong.
People I know who regularly do not eat breakfast are not gaining weight.
Your "explanation" isn't logical.
-
No, fuzzy's right! The act of breaking something fast requires effort, so whatever you ate for breakfast you burn off in the act of speedy breaking. Lunch and Dinner require no breaking, and so you don't burn those calories.
-
Thank you Markio. I think some people need to retake 7th grade health class and pay attention to the section that tells you how important breakfast is.
-
I don't think you "get" Markio.
Anyway, I only remember people stressing breakfast because it gives your brain "fuel" for the start of the day or something. Nothing at all to do with weight gaining.
-
It's not worth my time to argue with someone who couldn't tell that Markio was being facetious.
-
Actually, skipping Breakfast or any meal(s) every now and then can be good for you. It allows your digestive system to take a break from constantly digesting food.
-
Skip lunch.
-
Actually, skipping Breakfast or any meal(s) every now and then can be good for you. It allows your digestive system to take a break from constantly digesting food.
Your digestive system is always running. Even if nothing's in your stomach, there's still food in your small and large intestines.
-
Skip lunch.
I would actually think skipping dinner would be better for the body, but I wouldn't do it.
My reason is as follows: If you eat dinner and don't do any exercise or anything to burn the calories, etc. It'll sit in your stomach and it will digest while you're sleeping. So you gain weight. Ok I'm done explaining.
-
I eat dinner less than either other meal. Sometimes I have four meals. It depends on how hungry I am and when. I'm pretty sure it's been shown that large breakfasts being vital and breakfast being the "most important meal of the day" are not actually true. I think I've read that it's better to have several smaller meals throughout the day. Could be mistaken, though.
-
I ate a bowl of berry sorbet for breakfast this morning. Tasty. :D
-
I think I've read that it's better to have several smaller meals throughout the day. Could be mistaken, though.
I believe that. I first heard that from my French teacher Mademoiselle Mills. She wont be at my school next year because she is going to a different one. She was my favorite teacher! WAAAAAAAAAAAAHHH!!!! It was sad. When she first told us the news she cried. Ohhhhhhh...........
-
My grandfather once told me this saying that goes: "Eat like a king at breakfast, eat like a prince at lunch and eat like a peasant at dinner".
-
That sounds right, actually.
Yesterday, I needed the energy to mow the lawn, so I had two pieces of butter toast.
Today, I needed the energy to loaf around, so I had eggs, bacon, and an English muffin.

-
Cruel irony. It's goes similarly for unhealthy foods, which usually taste better than healthy ones.
-
Seriously, retake health class. Any doctor who knows about nutrition will tell you that if you don't eat breakfast, than you will have a hard time burning calories until you eat again. All those days will start to add up until you are a big tubby monster! Seriously folks, breakfast is the most important meal of the day! You learn this in Paper Mario.
-
ROFL to LD's post.
-
More Pop-Tarts today. I think I need some more.
ROFL to LD's post.
Huh? Lizard Dude hasn't posted here.
-
Sometimes I get Luigison and Lizard Dude's posts mixed up too.
I still don't know what fuzzy is on about, saying lack of food results in inability to burn calories. How does that even make sense?
-
I think he means that if you don't eat, your metabolism slows down to conserve calories for energy. With a slower metabolism, it makes it easier to gain weight when you do eat.
Of course, that happens if you continually don't eat when you're hungry. It doesn't happen if you "skip a meal" now and then or don't eat when you're not hungry, regardless of the time of day, which is what fuzzy seems to be claiming.
-
I usually skip lunch when I'm not in school beca-... oh, right. I wake up at lunch time, and I eat breakfast. Well, yeah. I eat wen I get hungry, but I'm ALWAYS hugry when I wake up.
Today I had a breakfast burrito (I could live offa those things) with some tiny pancakes. Unfortunately, the pancakes went to waste because the syrup didn't taste like anything, so it was like pouring very very thick water on them. I saved two pancakes, which I tossed into the toaster to make into a PB&J sandwich for dinner (accompanied by some leftover-from-breakfast bacon). Breakfast seriously is the leetest meal. It will pwn any other food you eat.
-
fuzzy is right, in a way. If you do not eat breakfast, it is proven that you will gain weight. The fact is you shoud eat the most calories at breakfast, and less and less calories for the rest of the day. If you consume more calories later in the day and skip breakfast, you will gain weight. If you consume the most calories early, then you will lose weight.
Oh yeah. I had a '70's style strawberry Pop-tart today, dated from the '70's. Mmmmm, aged to perfection.
-
I had a pancake. Since you haven't eaten the whole time you were sleeping, the body thinks that it is starving so it conserves as many calories as it can. Once you eat your body will get back on normal schedule and burn calories like normal.
-
Hair color is based on what hour of day you're born.
-
LOL
Uh, fuzzy, if you're not hungry when you wake up, I'm pretty sure your body doesn't think it's "starving". Because, well, sleeping is kind of a normal activity. If you stayed up all night and didn't eat, then you would be abnormally hungry. But sleeping is different since your body knows it needs to sleep. "Starving" only begins to occur long after just a few hours of not eating.
What makes you fat is eating large meals before sleeping, because then you don't have any chance to digest well or work it off, instead you sit in the same place and it doesn't get processed efficiently.
Moral: Eat when you're hungry, not when you're not. And don't make dinner your largest meal.
-
But always eat breakfast when you get up. Why doesn't anybody ever believe me or think I am making a good point when I am stating facts? My CT should be changed to "liar" or something.
-
For one thing, you aren't stating facts.
For another, you aren't making good points.
-
You are a perfect example for what I was just stating in my last post.
-
And it's because of the reasons I stated in my last post.
-
Erm, according to this (http://www.foxnews.com/story/0,2933,147140,00.html) article, the reason that skipping breakfast makes some people gain weight is because they tend to eat more for their other meals to "compensate" for what they didn't eat for breakfast -- not really metabolism. What surprises me is that this study says that skipping breakfast could lead to diabetes.
Although, the caveat for this article is that the study solely tested women.
-
Over eating can lead to diabetes because your body has to work harder to deal with the extra food you ate, especially if the food contains a lot of refined sugars. One proven (at least in mice and monkeys) ways to live longer is to eat less overall. It also seems that eating more smaller meals could be benificial. There need to be bigger detailed studies over a long time to tell how much of an affect it has in humans though.

-
Why would you want to be healthy? We're all gamers, so aren't we supposed to just sit on the couch and play our Mario games all day?
Mmmmmmm, butter toast for me.
-
Helps get rid of the stereotype.
-
I'm a gamer, aren't I?
-
This reminds me of E3 2005.
-
Man, fuzzy sure gets the shaft around here, even though he almost always says factual things.
Anyhow, here's from a university summary of 47 breakfast studies:
Breakfast eaters generally consumed more daily calories yet were less likely to be overweight, although not all studies associated breakfast skipping with overweight. Evidence suggests that breakfast consumption may improve cognitive function related to memory, test grades, and school attendance. Breakfast as part of a healthful diet and lifestyle can positively impact children's health and well-being. Parents should be encouraged to provide breakfast for their children or explore the availability of a school breakfast program.
EAT BREAKFAST.
My breakfast is always cereal + milk. Back at home my dad would periodically make pancakes. I like waffles the best but rarely get them. Those little weiners are awesome too. College food service was a good place to get them if I woke up early enough, which didn't often happen.
P.S. EAT BREAKFAST

It's just that he posts things for the wrong reasons. And uses the wrong reasons to try to get people to listen to him.
-
So bad PR.
-
I mean, I usually like to eat breakfast. It usually helps me start my progress throughout the day. But for instance my mom doesn't usually, because she isn't hungry then.
-
Yes.
Back at home my dad would periodically make pancakes.
Heh, LD mentioned that, and my dad's making pancakes today, along with hashbrowns.
-
It's just that he posts things for the wrong reasons. And uses the wrong reasons to try to get people to listen to him.
Explain. I just like to post interesting things. I am a Factoid.
-
If you read that study carefully, you'll see several critical points, which were not addressed, and thus baseless generalizations were made.
Breakfast habits, nutritional status, body weight, and academic performance in children and adolescents.
Breakfast eaters generally consumed more daily calories yet were less likely to be overweight, although not all studies associated breakfast skipping with overweight.
Man, fuzzy sure gets the shaft around here, even though he almost always says factual things.
My point being he says lots of things that may have some basis in fact, but are mixed with a lot of twisted/unfactual things used to strengthen his arguments. And he definitely doesn't know anything about persuasion... far too confrontational.
-

Persuade you to do what Mr. Megabyte? What twisted things? All I said was that don't think you can lose weight by skipping breakfast every single day. It will be much harder to burn calories if that happens.
-
On topic, I had Eggo Cinnamon Waffles this morning.
-
Persuade you to do what Mr. Megabyte?
I think he means that when a person tries to express their views, they are trying to persuade people to believe what they believe, and he's saying you're not doing a good job of accomplishing that.
EDIT: Oh yeah, I had three pieces of pizza.
-
I am tempted to quote and reply to fuzzy's post, but will instead simly say that I had orange juice and dark chocolate for breakfast. I'm now having an energy vitamin water.
-
I had Corn Pops. Did you know that they used to be call Sugar Pops? Huh, what? You don't believe me? Big suprise.
believe what they believe
What the scientific and health community believes. You can deny the facts just as people always do with religion. Now that I think about it, I wouldn't expect simple minded gullible people like you to believe me. Happy now?
-
Hmm, I think I had... something out of a can today.
-
simple minded gullible people
Why again am I simple-minded? Because I don't believe what you or the scientific people do? And why the heck am I and the rest of the forums considered by you gullible? Seriously, back up what you say instead of just saying it.
-
Ok, this thread is for breakfast things, not arguing about facts and gullibility. I split those off into their own thread.
I just don't eat breakfast because I'm never hungry in the morning after I wake up. And when I am, I usually eat Burger King LUNCH items for breakfast. Or eat some cereal out of the box.
-
I don't eat breakfast, simply because either:
A. I wake up around lunch time, missing the meal altogether
or
B. Wake up and be out the door before I can even THINK of eating something.
-
Today, I can hear the bread, butter, and toaster calling...
-
Hungry Man Sports Grill. A bunch of chicken with cheese fries; it's the best one they make.
-
Anyone ever take two pieces of peanut butter toast and make a sandwich with them? That's what I'm having for breakfast today.
-
What twisted things? All I said was that don't think you can lose weight by skipping breakfast every single day. It will be much harder to burn calories if that happens.
Sorry, I was away and didn't reply to this sooner. What twisted things? For example, you did it again right here. That was not what you said. What you said was that everybody that skips breakfast will get fat. Big difference.
EDIT: I suppose this was mostly covered in Steve's topic.
-
/me wonders what MEGAߥTE broke his fast with.
I'm having a MØNSTER KHAØS energy and juice drink with a TLC Peanut Peanut Butter chewy granola bar.
-
There was no milk in the house when I woke up and no breakfast to be found, so I had no choice but to make my own eggs. I wouldn't have if I hadn't felt sick, and my cooking really sucks, but I feel all good now.
-
I had a Tim Hortons' doughnut (or donut) and, to replace my own "no milk" problem, a glass of Kool-Aid.
-
You know those freezy-pop things, you buy 'em as juice in a plastic tube and you stick 'em in the freezer? I had one for breakfast today. And some leftover sausages.
-
honey nut cheerios!
