Game Help / 8th Bag in Animal Crossing: City Folk
« on: August 18, 2009, 06:06:17 PM »
I've heard from numerous sources that it is possible to get an 8th bag of money (worth 8,000 bells) from your daily money bag in Animal Crossing: City Folk.  I've Feng Shui-ified my house to amass the minimum 73 yellow points, yet every day I try I still don't get the 8th money bag (even though I position myself around the rock to ensure that there would be room for one).  Here are some pictures of my house; if any of you can spot something that I'm doing wrong I'd appreciate it if you would tell me.

Mario Chat / The Name Game
« on: July 03, 2009, 10:40:42 AM »
Think you can come up with a better title for any Mario game?  Here's your chance to show off your naming skills.  I'll start off with a couple of upcoming games.

New Super Mario Bros. Wii
     New Super Mario Bros. Too
     Super Mario Bros. Wii
     Super Mario Bros. × 4

Super Mario Galaxy 2
     Super Mario Universe

Remember, you can rename any Mario game, upcoming or already released.

Mario Chat / Paper Mario Patterns?
« on: May 03, 2009, 09:45:19 AM »
Warning!  This topic discusses huge spoilers on all three Paper Mario games, and makes speculations on a hypothetical fourth game.  If you have not experienced all three Paper Mario games yet, I suggest you direct your attention elsewhere.

Have you noticed any 'patterns' in the Paper Mario games on who you fight as the final boss?  The original Paper Mario was fairly traditional in the sense that you fight King Bowser Koopa to save the princess.  But then in Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door, a big twist is that Princess Peach Toadstool becomes the final boss in the sense that he/she/it/they get(s) possessed.  And then in Super Paper Mario, the twist is that Luigi in a way becomes the final boss after he/she/it/they is/are possessed.

See where I'm going with this?

I have a feeling that in the next Paper Mario game, Mario will get possessed and become the final boss (<--I know this isn't a spoiler since the game doesn't even exist yet, but for some reason I felt the need to use the spoiler tag).  Then the player will have to fight against the mighty Mario to save the world.  So what do you think?  Would that be the next logical twist, or is that too predictable?  Or too farfetched?

Video Game Chat / Lost Data
« on: February 12, 2009, 12:06:26 AM »
Last week someone broke into my house and stole some valuables, including my Wii.  Thankfully, I have my game data backed up on an SD card, except for games like Super Smash Bros. Brawl, Mario Kart Wii, and Animal Crossing: City Folk (those games cannot be copied into an SD card).  I find this very frustrating since I earned every trophy in Brawl and Kart and don't know if I have the energy to revisit all that frustration to get them back...and my Animal Crossing town is irreplacable.  So I want to prevent anything like this from happening again and was wondering if anyone knew of any sort of way to somehow back up data from these games.
By the way, I think these games cannot be backed up because they have Wi-Fi multiplayer.  I'm just curious if non-Nintendo systems maintain this rigid policy.  Would it really be that hard to back up the single-player data separate from the Wi-Fi data?

Mario Chat / The Ultimate Mario List?
« on: January 09, 2009, 09:11:41 PM »
I've attempted to come up with a list of every main Super Mario Bros. adventure game.  By "adventure game," I refer mostly to the 2D side-scrollers, the RPGs, and the 3D platformers.  Pretty much any big Mario game with a storyline.  That means no Mario Karts, sports, or other spinoffs.  So here goes...

Super Mario Bros. (Super Mario Bros. 1)
Super Mario Bros. 2 (Super Mario Bros. 2)
Super Mario Land (Super Mario Bros. 2.5)
Super Mario Bros. 3 (Super Mario Bros. 3)
Super Mario World (Super Mario Bros. 4)
Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins (Super Mario Bros. 4.5)
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (Super Mario Bros. 5, not chronologically, but as in the fifth big game involving the Mario Bros.)
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (Super Mario Bros. 6)
Super Mario 64 (Super Mario Bros. 7)
Paper Mario (Super Mario Bros. 8)
Luigi's Mansion (Super Mario Bros. 9, yes, Luigi is a Mario brother)
Super Mario Sunshine (Super Mario Bros. 10)
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga (Super Mario Bros. 11)
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (Super Mario Bros. 12)
Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time (Super Mario Bros. 13)
New Super Mario Bros. (Super Mario Bros. 14)
Yoshi's Island DS (Super Mario Bros. 15)
Super Paper Mario (Super Mario Bros. 16)
Super Mario Galaxy (Super Mario Bros. 17)
Mario & Luigi RPG 3 (Super Mario Bros. 18)

The reason I include the Super Mario Land games as fractions is for the same reason why Donkey Kong Land wasn't Donkey Kong Country 2.  I feel that the Land games feel more like mini-episodic events rather than the next big adventure.  Did I miss a game?  Do you disagree?  Discuss.

Mario Chat / Super Mario RPG Music Request
« on: January 09, 2009, 12:08:38 PM »
I want to download the official Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars soundtrack.  I've done a few searches and found websites that used to have them but are unfortunately unavailable now.  Does anybody have an idea where I can find the music files?

By the way, I came across music files from Super Mario Galaxy at http://videogamescrapbook.com/
Does anybody know if these files come from the official soundtrack?

Game Help / The Super Jumps in SMRPG
« on: September 04, 2008, 06:10:59 PM »
Even though I played SMRPG a lot on my SNES, I somehow never knew about the 100 Super Jumps challenge (I guess I just assumed the dog was kidding).  I did complete the 30 Super Jumps in my SNES cartridge, but now on the Virtual Console I don't know how the heck I even reached 30 back in the day.  Now, I seem to always mess up on number 13.  Any pointers or advice?

Mario Chat / Where Have All the Snakers Gone?
« on: August 27, 2008, 07:21:05 PM »
Disconnectors and snakers made the Mario Kart DS online mode a very frustrating experience to me.  Needless to say, I'm really enjoying Mario Kart Wii's Wi-Fi modes, but a few days ago I logged online with Mario Kart DS out of curiosity.  I was surprised to see that I raced with no snakers.  I connected again day after day, and so far I've never seen any snakers!  What's happened to them?  Has anybody seen them?  Have they all moved on to Mario Kart Wii?  Not that I'm complaining with the lack of snaking, but I'm just surprised with these results.  Has anybody noticed this?

Gee, maybe Mario Kart DS online is playable again...
