« on: May 04, 2007, 04:57:13 PM »
Yeah, Coolidge overall came off as pretty cold.  I mean, he was all for the wealthy and big corporations, which wasn't bad during the twenties, but the guy completely ignored the poor farmers in Illinois who were left fiscally mortified after a great flood!
But, I actually feel sort of sorry for Harding.  I mean, he wasn't necessarily a bad guy; Harding simply suffered under his horrbile cabinet (Teapot Dome, anyone?), and was overall judged by accords of that, just like Grant.  He did achieve through the Washington Naval Arms Conference, reducing ship tonnage of France, Italy, Great Britain, Japan, and U.S. after WWI (which was a pleasant, wishful way to avoid future war), but that obviously didn't work out so well...
So... Harding can't really be called "one of the good ones"... but I feel pity more than disdain for him.

Well, you know what they say about Hoover.  He's just like the vacuum!  He... he... *ahem*... cleans...

As far as my favorite president goes, I would have to say Taft, because he's HUGE!
No- not really.  Taft enforced a lot of progressive policies like his predecessor, Roosevelt (actually, more), but was a little too conservative for the turn of the century.
Anyway, my favorite president might just have to be FDR.  He was an excellent president who really tried to help out during the Great Depression with his "alphabet soup" agencies, which probably would have worked in the long run!  (Of course, we will never know considering that it was WWII that ultimately saved us economically).  FDR, overall, was simply awesome at being rational with the U.S., and with pulling his share of the weight during the 1930s (which a certain predecessor didn't do-*cough*Hoover*cough*).

And, despite what some people may think, I do not think that FDR decided to "allow" Pearl Harbor to happen in order to give America that final push onto the world stage.  That seems totally out of character, in my opinion, and I can't see FDR ever doing such a thing.
Edit:  Okay, I realize that I'm being a little hard on Hoover.  I mean, yes, he was too reliant on American volunteers, and refused to let the federal government get majorly involved with the Great Depression, but I guess he did make an attempt (Reconstruction Finance Corporate was kinda cute).
"Hoovervilles", though, are just too pitiful to forget.  ;)

Haha, I agree.  Mimi also changed her outfit for practically every cut scene.  I'm not sure if that's ever been done before in a Mario game... though I could be wrong.

I have to bring up Francis, the nerdy chamelion.  He's simply too hilarious a character to leave out.  Nintendo was almost making fun of their own fanbase through Francis XD.  It was, of course, all in good fun and not meant to offend anybody, but I can't help but think that there's some poor, anime-loving, butterfly-catching kid out there who's writing angry letters to Nintendo.

Pardon my slight off topicness, but if they closed thier eyes to not read the spoilers, how would they know to open their eyes again.

Haha, I wasn't being literal.  It was a miserable attempt at making satire out of how serious people get over "spoilers".  Yeahhh.... By the way, there are spoilers in this post.  :D

Mario Chat / SPM Character Discussion

When playing Super Paper Mario I can safely say that I was not disappointed by the colorful plethora of characters that made their appearances.  Sure, I had by doubts while viewing the early game previews (seeing nothing but side-scrolling action), but I couldn't have been farther from the truth by blatantly deciding that the Paper Mario originality that we have enjoyed throughout the years was gone.
Additions in the Paper Mario cast, including (OMG TOTAL SPOILERZ!) Dimentio, Mimi, O'Chucks, etc. (you can open your eyes now.) provided more than enough humor and enjoyment to the already genial game.
In this topic I want to allow various members of TMK to express opinions (including critiques) on the characters in Super Paper Mario.  Who was your favorite addition?  What did you think of the individual dialects pertaining to each person?  Did you think that any character came off as almost insulting?  What quotes did you like?

As for me, (obvious spoilers ups aheads) I though that Dimentio sprinkled a sort of Victorian humor into the game (speaking with a profuse vocabulary and using florid analogies) and overall proved to be a wonderfully mind-boggling antagonist!  I also loved his theme music (sounding sort of French, and filled with panache).
He said something before fighting Luigi that qualifies as being one of my favorite quotes in the game:  "And so I strike, like an unseen dodgeball in an echoing gymnasium!"

But, that's just me.

I found the "Overthere" and the "Underwhere" to be very humorous allusions, actaully.  Though being a strong Christian, I, in no way, found them insulting.  The moment I read "The Underwhere" I instantly thought that it was simply a clever innuendo poking fun at ancient Greek beliefs.
"Jaydes" is obviously a parody to "Hades", and "Grambi" was clearly a clever portrayal of.... Bam..bi...?

It's a game about nothing!  I would buy it.

EDIT:  Lol!  I found this in the same section, and if you've seen the episode where Seinfeld remembers his date's name and yells it out, I'm pretty sure you'll find this funny.
