Mario Chat / Re: Your most disliked character...

It's not enough depth. They just put the character there and do nothing else.

Not for me.  I hate these characters because they're unoriginal and they suck.  I DON'T want to see more of these characters', I want them gone and replaced with more original guys.

Any word on a more specific release date yet?  Seems like this would have to come out before the Wii at least...

The absolute worst Mario characters are:

3. Daisy
2. Waluigi
1. Bowser Jr.

If these three losers got blown off the face of the Earth, I'd be one happy Mario fan.

Pretty much all of Super Star Saga, especially Fawful and Princess Luigi, and then of course Luigi's alternate adventure during Paper Mario 2.

His whole Super Luigi story in PM2 was bogus because he just seemed like a screw up in the whole thing.  I think he needs a smack in the head and start acting like his younger self again.
No, because if he started acting like his younger self, he'd lose his unique personality and go back to being "Mario but green."  I don't want that.  I LOVE that Luigi has actually had some character development, and his goofy/lazy attitude nicely contrasts with Mario's hard-working/determined attitude.  They play off each other wonderfully.  Plus, Luigi is frigging hilarious nowadays.

Luigi's alternate adventure in PM2 was one of my favorite parts of the game.  I wanted to actually SEE what happened there... maybe we'll get to play it in a spin-off game?  Either that, or at least give me another Luigi's Mansion game.

Bowser Jr. is POINTLESS though.  The Koopalings could have filled his role SO much better.  They've got much more interesting personality, and it would have been nice to not fight the same boss OVER and OVER again.  Nothing will make me not hate Bowser Jr. (unless he finally learns to share the spotlight with the Koopalings).

Mario Chat / Re: Favorite Mario RPG

My personal faves of the Mario RPG's are as follows:

1. Mario and Luigi: SuperStar Saga
2. Super Mario RPG
3. Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door
3. Mario and Luigi: Partners in Time
4. Paper Mario

The top three were practically tied though, honestly.  They all rule.  M&L:SS gets an edge though, mainly for it's awesome humor and TONS of old school Mario cameos, plus my favorite battle system by FAR.  Mario RPG is classic and Epic, and Thousand Year Door is everything Paper Mario 1 SHOULD have been.

Wait what?  You guys haven't played as Luigi in Super Mario 64 yet?  It's really easy.  The 2041 thing is a code.  It goes 2-0 and 4-1.  2-0=2.  B is the 2nd letter in the alphabet.  4-1=3, and C is the 3rd letter in the alphabet.  Starting to make sense?

What you have to do is go next to Yoshi and press the B button as well as all the C buttons simultaneously 2,041 times.  You might need a friend to help reach all those C buttons.  Don't worry about counting, just keeping mashing them simultaneously until Mario jumps on Yoshi.

This next part is really cool.  I'm still surprised more people don't know about this though, I thought there was a big news story on IGN and stuff a few years back... that's how I heard about it at least...

Anyway, you have control of Mario riding Yoshi!  It doesn't work that well (you can't enter doors or use any of his special abilities) but it's still pretty cool.  What you do now is take Yoshi and jump behind the waterfall, obviously this is only possible while riding Yoshi.  You'll find a little cave area, and standing in the middle is Luigi!  Just run over to him on Yoshi and he'll say something like "Hey Mario, is it my turn finally?"  Tell him Yes and the camera will switch to Luigi, leaving Mario and Yoshi in the cave.  You can now play around in all the worlds as Luigi, though sadly you can't save having switched over.  I'm also pretty sure there's no way to switch back to Mario while playing, other than restarting the game.

Luigi plays just like Mario, but still, it's pretty awesome after all these years to see a green-suited Mario Bro. wreaking havoc in 64-bit glory!

Mario Chat / Re: Did Rareware Ltd. Ruin the DK series?

It's time Donkey Kong's name was changed.

No it's not.  The time to change his name would have been before the original arcade game was exported from Japan.

I'd slow WAY down on the sports/party titles.  Focus way more on 3D adventures, sidescrollers and RPGs.  I'd get a line of sweet Mario action figures out there, and also start recruiting talent to make a really well-done Super Mario Bros. animated movie.

I'd obliterate Waluigi and Bowser Jr., because I find them to be awful characters.  The Koopalings would have prominent villain roles, and Wario would be a little more evil than he has been lately, perhaps even return to his role as a final boss for a Mario game (though this would have no bearing on the excellent Wario Ware games, of course).  Daisy wouldn't be completely destroyed, but she'd be a little less prominent, because she kind of sucks.  Donkey Kong Jr. wouldn't replace Diddy, but they'd co-exist.

The "toothy grin DK" that everybody gripes about is the SAME version as Rare's, only smiling.  Is smiling so wrong?

The only thing Rare ruined was DK's placement in the time-space continuum (as was previously stated) and his family tree.  I'm sorry, but Lanky, Tiny, Chunky and Kiddy Kong suck.  (Though granted, Kiddy doesn't suck quite as much as the DK64 has-beens)

Koopa Kingdom is the name I assigned to Bowser's realm, which I feel is consistently different enough from the rest of the Mushroom Kingdom.  Want proof?  Go to World 8 of Super Mario Bros. 3, or the final world of Yoshi's Island.  Especially Yoshi's Island, since you have to sort of teleport there... it seems to be unreachable from Yoshi's Island by normal means.

And yeah,  I voted for Koopa Kingdom. ;)

So yeah, what's your favorite realm Mario and co. have adventured through?  [Goodness] knows the Bros. have been to some exotic worlds throughout their 20+ years of Bowser-bashing.

Personally, I don't think I can pick just one.  I love the seven kingdoms from Super Mario Bros. 3 (though I just kind of lump them in as part of the Mushroom Kingdom), I love Yoshi's Island (from SMW2 in particular) and the Koopa Kingdom is consistently one of the coolest/[baddest] places.

But what are YOUR favorites?  Where would you like to see the next Mario Bros. adventure take place?

I left out Donkey Kong Country, Crocodile Isle and the Northern Kremisphere, because I consider the DKC series as separate from the Super Mario games.  That's also why I left off Diamond City, the setting for the Wario Ware games.  All of the above places rule, I just feel like they didn't fit in on the poll, which was already pretty packed.

Ha, this is why I never try to make sense of the Mario timeline/continuity... it's even worse than Zelda's!
