I also take my shirt off when I go number two.  I think because I don't want it to hang down and sweep against the seat, or anything else...

I usually bring something with me like a book or my GBA.  Occasionally I would being homework with me.  I usually continue reading after I finish and I end up taking half an hour.  My sister has criticized me on this, and now I tend not to take things with me so I can just go in and out.  I do not read Bathroom Readers.

The concept of intelligence is culturally defined by humans anyway.

MIRAGE STUDIOS!

They publish TMNT;  The four or five comic books I own are all TMNT, and that's it.

I like going through the garbage.  The ultimate in recycling!

I've also been trying to get into guerrilla gardening, but it's hard without money or a means of transportation.  I should just have my own garden, but being at college makes that impossible.  I'm resigned to having a plant on the windowsill, a succulent Jade plant.  It's thriving, at least.

I'm also in an a cappella group.  I'm a Tenor 1, and we're really good, so there!

I also found a giant empty jar in the garbage one day, so now I'm filling it with paper cranes.  I'd like to make a thousand, though I probably won't for lack of paper or time.

Not at the Dinner Table / Re: All drugs should be legal
« on: November 12, 2008, 05:17:26 PM »
Yes, only those who are addicted and no longer voluntarily choose to do drugs should be considered criminals.

In a class on Social Problems we read a book about selling crack in East Harlem and how Puerto Ricans are institutionally marginalized because of cultural, stereotypical and bureaucratic barriers that prevent them from being able to easily enter the legal business.  At the conclusion of the book, he says that the first step towards reducing bureaucratic racism and marginalization of these ethnic groups would be to legalize drugs such as cocaine.  The profit for selling these drugs would diminish, the money would enter the legal economy, and marginalized youth would no longer aspire to sell drugs; they also would not be bombarded by drug dealers in their community looking for new clients.

The name of the book is "In Search of Respect: Selling Crack in El Barrio" by Philippe Bourgois.  It's more informative than my post, and it gives more in depth information regarding the possible legalization of drugs than any of us can know as of now.

EDIT: marijuana is psychologically addictive, but not physically.

I think with the chances of every President to mess things up, the Lame Duck period could be like the eye of the storm.  So let's all settle down and relax before anything crucial happens.

Everyone should try thinking on both sides.

I think you're confusing your personal understanding of right and wrong with the culturally defined understanding of right and wrong.  In some cultures, what is wrong may not be defined as wrong in another culture.  Most people accept the definition of morality within their culture.  it's true that religion does influence some cultures to a great extent too.  That's why issues like gay marriage and abortion are so controversial.  But in the areas where homosexual marriage is legal, for example, it is not considered "wrong".  In that sense, the culture is influencing the local definitions of right and wrong.
