Well, a lot of other universes are limited as well. Those are 8 major level themes you listed right there, so most other themes would have to derive from those. I don't care if the area themes are the same as long as they are well-designed (this isn't a problem for Nintendo).

Cool! I noticed something though: there's Mt. Lavalava in the first Paper Mario, which the first screenshot resembles, and then there's the path to Fahr Outpost in Paper Mario: The Thousand Year Door, which the second screenshot heavily resembles. Is it possible that they're taking all the environmental themes from the first two Paper Mario games and putting them in this one?

2D Platformer: New Super Mario Bros. Wii
3D Platformer: Super Mario Sunshine/Galaxy
Sports/Kart: Mario Power Tennis/Mario Kart Double Dash!!
Party: Mario Party 3/Mario Party 7

I would want another Metroid game like Super Metroid, except with updated graphics and controls, more power-ups, collectibles, weapons, and etc. Oh, and the ability to toggle your power-ups on and off is a must, too. I really liked how in Super Metroid you can decide to make the game more challenging at will just by taking off all your power-ups.

Wait a minute, I already used a Warp Zone in my file.  I was planning on just starting from World 1-1 on that file and going through the game to unlock World 9.  But if I already used a Warp Zone and saved on that file, does that make it impossible to unlock World 9?  I just want to make sure so I don't go through all that and see that I can't do it anymore.

Also, I heard that it's possible to lose World 9 after you unlock it.  Is this true?

I'm not sure what you mean by "lose World 9," but you can always get to it again. I've gotten to it several times on my SNES version of Super Mario All-Stars. Once you use a Warp Zone, you can no longer get World 9 on that particular file, so you'll have to make a new one.
