Mario Chat / Re: Are there 2 Baby Bowsers?

I know, I just thought it was weird how they're still both referred to as the same character: Baby Bowser.

there should be a rollaer coaster similar to the one in Pinna Park.
Or something like Princess' Secret Slide.

Mario Chat / Are there 2 Baby Bowsers?
« on: June 16, 2006, 09:42:07 PM »
One day, I was playing Super Mario Sunshine when the thought occurred to me: are there two Baby Bowsers?  Because in SMS, NSMB, and MK:DD, Baby Bowser is depicted as Bowser's son, yet in Yoshi's Story, Yoshi's Island, and M&L:PiT, Baby Bowser is just a younger version of Bowser.

So are we dealing with two different characters here?  Because one is Bowser's son, and one is Bowser himself.  Bowser even refers to him as "son" at the end of Super Mario Sunshine.  This is weird, if you ask me...we could have a Bowser trio on our hands.

Mario Chat / Re: PM and PM: TTYD are not set in a play.

I think the audience is there to give Mario some star power.  Because when you appeal in a battle, you can actually see some gold dust-like stuff come from the audience and build up around the star meter.

Anyway...I'm just glad that the game itself is not a play.  It just seems so much cooler when this game is part of Mario's true history as a video game hero.

You forgot to add the SMB3 worlds!

(Can't remember the name for the first world)
Desert Land
Sea Land
Giant World
Cloud Land
Ice Land
Pipe Maze
Castle of Koopa

Sorry if I got the names wrong.
The first world is "Grass Land."

By the way, I think Yoshi's Island is part of Dinosaur Land.
Anyway...I'd like to see more of Rogueport.  That place rocked.  It was the setting for one of the greatest games ever made.

Mario Chat / Re: Character Development
« on: June 16, 2006, 09:24:17 PM »
I've thought about it some more...and I've decided that we already have a glimpse of the personalities of a lot of characters.  Mario is shy but brave.  Luigi is cowardly and usually just looks after the house while Mario is gone.  Wario craves money and power.  Peach is always in need of rescuing.  Bowser is a pain.  Baby Bowser is a pain too.

I was thinking that maybe we should see more of Professor Frankly (PM:TTYD), Professor Fungi (Mario Party 2), Daisy (Super Mario Land, MK:DD, MK:DS, Mario Parties 3 through 7, various sports), and Waluigi.

Mario Chat / Are you working on a Mariopedia?
« on: June 15, 2006, 08:41:45 PM »
Is anyone working on a Mariopedia of their own?

I am.  I've started listing a bunch of enemies for Super Mario 64, each with a name, description, species, the levels they're found in, and how many coins you get from defeating them.  I only have about 18 enemies so far though...

So...if you are working on a Mariopedia, how far have you gotten?

PS--Does anyone know if the Mariopedia on this site is going to updated again soon?  There's still some stuff missing.

1--I don't remember Wanda...but she reminds me of a character from a Wario game.  But since Hudson Soft owns Tumble, I guess you're right; Luigi will need a new assistant.  How about...Professor Fungi (also from Mario Party 3)?  Luigi can communicate with him by means of a "mushroom monitor" that he carries around in Sarasaland.  Or, if that character won't work, we could always bring back Stuffwell.  But I do think it's important that Luigi has an assistant; judging by his personality, Luigi is as silent as Mario when it comes to talking, and he's not a great leader.

2--I see what you mean about minor characters becoming failures, but I see differently in Luigi.  I mean look at Luigi's Mansion--he was the main character.  That game gave him more recognition.  This game idea would do the same, yet on a larger scale, because Luigi sets out to explore an entire continent--Sarasaland--in search of a princess' memories that only appeared in one game previously.
Mario would still be in the game--along with Toad, Toadsworth, and Peach--but he would be one of the "off-to-the-side" characters that decides to remain in the Mushroom Kingdom.

Also, I think Shadow the Hedgehog wasn't such a big hit because A)he was practically a new character and B)he had the same coolness atmosphere and appearance as Sonic.  Shadow was created during the making of Sonic Adventure 2, whereas Luigi was made during Mario Bros., way back during the arcade age.  And even though Luigi looks like Mario, he has a totally different personality, and different abilities--like is flutter jump in Super mario Advance 2, or his green fireballs in Super Smash Bros.  Bringing these unique abilities into my game idea would enhance the fact that Luigi is a completely different character than Mario.

It kinda is, everyone agrees that those two should have their own game, but, the actual gameplay has to be original, not just the story.  Besides, a plumber saving a princess sounds familiar.
Indeed, which is why I have been thinking more into the plot; I decided that Luigi couldn't just flat out rescue her.  He had to uncover some secrets that are available to the plot *first.*  So that he has a reason to rescue her.

So I came up with this plot: the main villain of the story (I don't have his name yet) has not only imprisoned Daisy, but has imprisoned her memories, along with several of Mario's.  He specifically snatched the memories from the times when Mario rescued Daisy in Super Mario Land.  So it was as if he and Daisy never met.  He also stole Daisy's personality and her name.  She literally becomes a different person.
Luigi receives a letter from Daisy herself (but the nemesis out her name at the bottom of the letter for her, since he stole her identity) asking to come rescue her.  The letter reads:
"Dear Luigi,
I have been captured for the second time now!  A strange being has taken me to a strange place, and I need help!  Please come, and bring anyone else who could help!  Like a brother, or anyone really!
  --Daisy"
The first thing that strikes Luigi odd is that Daisy doesn't mention Mario; she only mentions that Luigi should bring anyone to help.  But she doesn't ask for a specific name.  So this leads Luigi to believe that Peach had something to do with it.  Luigi's friend, Tumble, interrogates Peach on this matter.  Toadsworth gets defensive and orders the Mushroom Guards to take Luigi and Tumble away from the castle, and they order Luigi and Tumble to go to Sarasaland and find Daisy.
Luigi doesn't talk in this game; Tumble talks for him, much like Stuffwell in Mario & Luigi: PiT.  Also, to preserve Luigi's naive personality, Tumble is also the one that fills Luigi in on these matters.  In other words, Luigi himself didn't point out the suspicious qualities of the letter.  Tumble did.
By the way...Tumble is the dice block guy from Mario Party 3.  I dunno, I thought it would be repetitive to use Toad as a mentor character in this game.  So I chose Tumble.

And that is the plot.

By the way, Chef...I understand your point about the FPS fans.  I worded my statement wrong.  It's not that I want FPS fans to play this game.  I just thought it would be cool if there was a Mario game that introduced the concept of using minor characters in a big game to mold them into more recognized characters.  If said game were made, then it might attract even more people.

How is my game idea unoriginal though?  Have you ever played a game besides Super Mario Land in which you rescue Daisy?  Have you ever played a game with Luigi as the star, besides Luigi's Mansion?

Some Mario games do already have a darker feel.  Like Paper Mario: TTYD.  You may not realize it, but it's there.  Examples: the death of Bobbery's wife, the lack of happy music, and the sheer creepiness of Twilight Town.  By darker feel, I didn't mean blood and gore; I meant something that would rid a lot of FPS fans of the "omg mario is kiddy" point of view.  It would also give Luigi and Daisy more recognition.

So this idea isn't unoriginal at all.

1. You forgot their A button moves, throws, and airial attacks.
2. I see a Mario bias.
I didn't intend for there to be a Mario bias...I have never played an Ice Climber game.  And making another F-Zero character besides Captain Falcon would make his special moves seem stale.  And...don't we have enough Pokemon characters?  I've also never played Earthbound, so I wouldn't have a clue beyond Ness.

Hmm...good points.

As for a nemesis, I haven't decided.  I thought of one, yet it seemed unoriginal.  I had an idea for a boss character, though.  On his adventure, Luigi would come across a Shy Guy Palace where he'd have to fight Shy Paladin and his fellow Helm Guys for acces to the next area.

As for the plot, I have no idea.

But I have an ide for Wii's capabilities: "whipping" the Wii remote would cause Luigi to release a fireball.

I sit back one day, and I think to myself: Are we ever given a game with Luigi as a main character?  "Yes," I reply to myself, "In Luigi's Mansion."  Only one game.  Then I ask myself: Are we ever given a game with Daisy as the damsel in distress?  "Yes," I reply to myself, "The Mario Land games."  Only a couple games.  Then I ask myself: Are we ever given a game without Bowser as the nemesis?  "Yes," I say to myself, "Mario Lands, Wario Lands, SMB2, Mario RPG, Paper Mario: TTYD, and both Mario & Luigi games."  Several games.

What if we were to combine those aspects into a single game?  We'd end up with the following: Luigi setting out to Sarasaland to rescue Daisy from the clutches of something that isn't Bowser.

But let's take it further than that.  How many actual mario ADVENTURE games are there?  Adventure meaning a 3D game in which you traevel to different worlds to collect stuff.  The adventure games are: Super Mario 64, Super Mario 64 DS, Mario Galaxy, Luigi's Mansion, and Super Mario Sunshine.  But there are about 20 Mario 2D platformers out there.  So let's add the adventure genre to this new game's mix.

While we're at it, let's give this game a dark feel.  Why?  Here's why: Luigi is viewed as a joke.  It'll also drain the kiddy feel away from the series that people supposedly see in Mario.  If we enhance the game with a darker, more serious feel, the player will care more.  Give the game an intricate plot.  And make it a bit gloomy in some areas.  Think Twilight Town from Paper Mario: TTYD.  So add the adventure genre and dark feel to the mix and here is what you'll have: Luigi embarking on a dangerous and dark mission, full of plot twists, to rescue Daisy in Sarasaland from an unheard-of monstrosity.

Now imagine if this were a Wii title.  Would you buy it if it were on shelves?  What are your thoughts on this game idea?

I agree with Blue toad, I'd like to see Daisy a lot more.  The only games she's ever been in are the two Mario land games, the sports games, every Mario party game after 1 and 2, and Mario Kart: DS and Mario Kart: DD.  Actually that is a lot of games...but she has only had a major role in the Mario Land series.

I've been thinking of another group of characters...it seems that nobody wants to get rid of any characters that are already in the series.  I'll list a character lineup that I think would be cool.  First is their name, next is their B move, smash-B, up-B, and Down-B moves.  Here's what I was thinking:
Chef Mario--B: Cookie Shot.  Smash B: Cookie Sheet.  Up B: Fiery Jump.  Down B: Stack Attack.

Tanooki Mario--B: Shell Shot.  Smash B: Tail Spin.  Up B: Take Flight.  Down B: Stone.

Waluigi--B: Blue Fireball.  Smash B: Tennis Racket.  Up B: Spring Jump.  Down B: Roulette Hammer.

Daisy--B: Bad Golfing.  Smash B: Daisy Bomber.  Up B: Daisy Parasol.  Down B: Character Swap.

Birdo--B: Egg Shot.  Smash B: Return to Sender.  Up B: Upward Propel.  Down B: Birdo Fireball.

Baby Bowser--B: Podoboo.  Smash B: Spiny Shell.  Up B: Ghost Boost.  Down B: Quake.

Ridley--B: Firestrike.  Smash B: Missile Rain.  Up B: Glide.  Down B: 5 Stabs.

Skull Kid--B: Dart.  Smash B: Combo.  Up B: Disappear.  Down B: Saria's Song.

Anyway...in case anyone's wondering...Chef Mario is from Yoshi's Cookie.  About Chef Mario...he is the slowest of the four Marios.  He also has weak attacks.  And has the lowest jump.  HOWEVER...his "Stack Attack" move is very unique.  You start by pressing Down B, and a random button will appear on-screen.  You press that button on your controller, and 2-3 cookies drop in front of you on your opponent, stacking up.  Another button will flash on-screen, and you press it on your controller.  Then, more cookies stack up on the enemy.  The buttons appear faster and faster, so it takes skill to master Stack Attack.  The more cookies you stack, the more damage you do, and the longer the enemy will stay stunned.
