I think those are data files used by the game for various things.  (Please correct me if I'm wrong- I'm not sure myself.)  Chances are the files are necessary for the game to run.

Yoshi's Story was very childish, and Paper Mario Story looks disappointing.

Let's not swing from one extreme to another, though.  Somehow the thought of Bowser storming on the Mushroom Kingdom in a panzer with battalions of kamikaze Goombas doesn't strike me as 'fun'.  I can just imagine Mario and Luigi carrying their M16s and lobbing grenades while wading through chest-deep water and dodging shrapnel.  Come on, people,  that's just not Mario.  If you want to play Goldeneye, play Goldeneye.  I agree that the series is falling by the juvanile side, but surely Mr. Miyamoto can be more creative than you give him credit.

It's a video game.  A work of science fiction.  You have to let go of everything you thought you knew about physics and logic to really enjoy that kind of thing without asking questions.

Game Help / Re: Super Mario World Arcade

I am sure the game wasn't pirated.  Nintendo was (is?) a member of JAMMA, the Japanese Arcade Manufacturer's something-or-other.  Also, sources verify that the Nintendo Super System (as the arcade machine was called) was  widely released to hype up interest in the SNES, much like the Playchoice 10 before it.
Plus, screenshots of the game on the site I mentioned in an earlier post show copyright information.  Very few pirates are lazy enough to leave that kind of thing...

True, the backflip is enough.  Also, if I remember correctly you don't have to hit the _extreme_ top of the painting.  I have jumped  around 4/5 of the way to the top and raised the water all the way...

When I first started playing games that featured Bowser, my attention span wasn't long enough to allow me to actually -finish- the game... that was all before in-cart save options were available.

I knew Koopa was there, though, and I called him King Koopa.  I can specifically remember playing Super Mario World and thinking, "why the heck does Koopa's castle say 'Bowser' on it?"

Why, you ask?  Nostalgic purposes, I guess...   What can I say?  I'm a sentimental fool.

That SMW arcade version does sound like a worthy ROM hunt...

Does Deezer have any information on the Mario arcade/pinball games?

Uh oh- I hope black44 doesn't think Hinopio is a jerk now...

Honestly, I didn't ignore your question!  I was gone.  Has anyone else beaten Super Mario World?

Remember- it never hurts to spend some time raising your party's levels, especially early on in the game.
