This is a hard question to answer. The games theirselves and the the cartoons/comics told about the Koopa Kids completely differently. I'm not even sure if there is a real factual answer.

Super Mario World was my first, I just moved around the spectrum after that.

EDIT: Now that I think about it, I remember playing Flight Simulator for DOS. Yes, the very first one. I must of been 8 or 9 by then. lol, I couldn't even get the plane off the ground.

Miyamoto recently confirmed the presence of Mario Kart GC at E3. In fact, its gonna be one of the biggest games there this year, so he thinks.

Ewwwwww...

It looks like they are just a group of Koopa's working for Bowser. Although Nintendo did say that the Koopa Kids are Bowser's kids, they haven't been used since Yoshi's Safari, so your theory may be correct.

I'm a reeeeal old member too, all the way back to 2001. I should post more. o.o

The Koopa Kids were used in a couple of games, but what really happened to them, it really isn't known officially. They didn't appear in Mario Sunshine, though Bowser Koopa Jr. did. Could be a sign.
