Mario Chat / Re: PlayStation... a monopoly?

I don't think Microsoft let Nintendo have Capcom.  Think about how dumb that statement is.  Capcom is one of the biggest 3rd parties with some of the biggest exclusive characters.  A choice like that believe it or not (if it really happened) would most likely be Microsoft's own destruction.  Because this move is a very big step Capcom leaning more to developing for Nintendo because once all of the bigger 3rd party names move over who is left to develop for the other systems?  The only real company Nintendo should try to get on their side but wont is Square.

Since i forgot this one in the last one - Nintendo has lots of 1st party names with differant tags.  For example HAL, That's first party.

Mario Party I don't consider part of the series but yes Nintendo did help make them along with SMRPG that was a joint between Square and Nintendo and Paper Mario was made entirely by Nintendo.

I don't know if anyone else noticed this but Miyamoto promised a more grown up Mario and Luigi on the GameCube.  Luigi's Mansion gave us some of the grown up look but it was Smash Bros that made me realize how much they changed since the 64.  Niether of the plumbers are neon colored made to blind your eyes nor is Mario super chubby or Luigi super skinny and tall.  Luigi's character even takes a huge change between Luigi's Mansion and Smash Bros. He loses his cartoonish feel and acts the way everyone expects Mario's younger brother to act.

Did anyone else notice this too?

I don't consider either Mario's Time Machine or Mario is Missing a part of the Mario series. . . Why?  well because niether were made by Nintendo they were licensed to another company for the use of educational purposes and Nintendo had no imput on their development.  That is the same reason that many people don't consider the Zelda games on the I-Drive to be true Zelda games - because they were licensed away and Nintendo had no imput on their development.

Video Game Chat / Re: The Nintendo 64, was it good or bad?
« on: December 10, 2001, 02:07:39 PM »
N64 was a good system - Honestly if it wasnt for N64 GameCube would be a lot differant than it is now.  If it wasn't for N64's mistakes GameCube would never have improved over it.  Remember the 64DD?  That technology has been built into the console using the SD memory card.  Also they fixed problems like pricing, cartridge problems and developing problems.  I love my 64 but it's flaws made our GameCube's better.

Mario Chat / Re: Nintendo's Really Done It Bad this time!
« on: December 10, 2001, 01:57:35 PM »
OK lets take this one piece at a time:

1) Luigi's Mansion is considered "The next game in the Mario series" - It says so right in the GCN owners manual.  Though you do not play Mario I put it up there with my other Mario games because of the story of the game.  It's kinda like Luigi being Player 1 instead of Player 2 like usual. . .

2) Nobody knows anything about Mario Sunshine.  We have no clue what that thing on his back is for and if it will be in the final version.  We have no clue what the sunshine coins are for.  We have no clue what other items are in the game and if there will be other items in the game.  We also have no clue what gameplay or features are going to be in the game.  So don't start saying bad things about the game yet. . .  There is still a lot more to find out. . . BTW Miyamoto made a comment before that the next Mario Bros game was going to be 2 player lets hope he keeps true to what he says cause another Mario and Luigi game would be the best!

Mario Chat / Re: What Did really happen between Square and Nintendo?
« on: December 04, 2001, 08:21:38 PM »
Here is what really happened with square and playstation and Nintendo.

Nintendo realized the potential of CDs in the future of gaming while they were working on Super Nintendo after seeing what the I-Drive could do- Nintendo decided they wanted to share information with them to get a CD drive for the SNES or even the next gen system - Like Sega they had to give up something as well in a trade like this and they let I Drive have the rights to use licenced characters in their games.  While work was happening on this system they (sony) decided that it was a good idea as well and so they put the work for nintendo to a stop and built their own gaming system from what Nintendo had wanted.  Nintendo was ****ed off and decided that they were not going to have anything to do with CDs anymore.  Square had already talked to Nintendo about wanting CDs because of the potential but this incident caused Nintendo to say no.  Square got ****ed and stopped all titles they had in work except for Mario RPG which they agreed to finish and then they were done with Nintendo.  Nintendo was furious at square has held a grudge all of these years.

Mario Chat / Re: Super Mario World for Gamecube?
« on: December 04, 2001, 08:13:19 PM »
Interesting theory indeed - I actually thought the very same thing myself - GameCube owners turn to page 18 of your manual and tell me what you see.  There has been a rumor flying around about Miyamoto working on as many as 30 projects. . . could these projects be the working of Mario All Stars GameCube?  It is a possibility. Infact if you think about it everything they would need to do it is found within Super Smash Bros (up through 64 games) and since the CDs are so much bigger than cartridges I think it could happen - Who knows maybe Nintendo has it in mind - we will have to wait and see

Mario Chat / Re: Has anyone seen a gamecube that you can rent
« on: December 03, 2001, 03:05:27 PM »
When the 64 came out I rented that from Blockbuster. . . Maybe they rent them?? But in any case it was only for like 2 or 3 days. I think it cost 20$.  I know blockbuster rents games already.  I say if you are not sure which one you want go down to walmart and give yourself 5 minutes on each of the demo systems they should have up and if that doesnt give you a feel for what you want then find the one with the games you want.

Video Game Chat / Re: Xbox haters do not read this...
« on: November 30, 2001, 02:58:41 PM »
Well first off - Nintendo was the first company to make true 3-D graphics using polygons.  That is where we got the Nintendo 64 and that is part of what made Mario 64 so revolutionary -

Second - haha your gonna love this, sega didn't even come up with the internet technology on their own - they made a trade with Microsoft - basically the trade was you give us the internet technology and we will give you our video game technology.  So it is Sega's internet ordeal that got us the X-Box in the first place.

Yes there are a lot of people there - and maybe your density is higher BUT if Nintendo made a lot of money in England dont you think they would make it more of a priority than a year after it is released in Japan?
