That guy from Flopside who sells these maps to hidden items, do you need the map to uncover the item if you already know were it is? If you don't have a map the item won't be there? Someone clear it up for me please.

Yes, you need the map.
Remember that your first Goomba boldly you walk? When Mario touched that mushroom being brought up more largely remember that you are surprised? Miscalculate your jump that pit remember that it falls?
