"Grok" was coined by Robert A. Heinlein in "Stranger in a Strange Land".
You know, it's funny, there's this girl I knew for a while that had been in school, and she was trying homeschooling... so I and a few friends of mine were talking to her, and every few minutes, one of us would say something apparently beyond her comprehension. She even got peeved when I used "large" instead of "big". Apparently, most (note that I said "most") people in school really need to work on their vocabulary. It's sad. Quite sad.
P.S. Let's hope we don't get sucked up by a Quantum Singularity.
