This is weird:

"Satoru Iwata, the current Nintendo president, recently made some interesting comments:

- Nintendo is not going to join the other console manufacturers in making gamers pay extra for online games.

- Nintendo is investing some of their $6 billion pool towards the development of the successors to the Gamecube and Game Boy.

- Nintendo's developers are hard at work, trying to make next-generation stars to replace Mario and Pokemon.

Excerpt:
'It looks as if Iwata is attemplting to steer the company in a different direction. Could this be in response to the comments that a Microsoft official recently made when he said, "I don't think Nintendo is here for the digital-entertainment revolution. They are a toy company?'

That's so fake. The Pokémon show stinks but the games (exepet Ruby and Saphire) are quite addiective.

It''s ah me Marioguy! I''m also the master of Tetris Attack!
I HATE JON!!! He betrayed me. So now everyone can have his picture.

Either the document is fake, or this guy's on drugs. I would love to see Pokemon die, BUT MARIO?????  WHO DOES THIS RUBE THINK HE IS?????  MR MIYAMOTO????

I think that they need some new heros to get some of the video game players that think Mario is childish and uncool.  I, on the other hand think Mario is the coolest.  Besides Luigi that is.  If my input counts for anything: KEEP MARIO! Dump Pokemon.

You know Mario or Pokemon won't go away. Why? Money. When a Mario game comes out, what comes in? Lots of money. When a Pokemon game goes out, what comes in? Lots and lots of money. I think he means they are trying to get more "Mature" again like in the old Joanna Dark/Conker days. I say go for it, just don't let Microsoft buy them away. "Replace" as in "who the public views as 'Nintendo'".

You'll still have Mario games even if he isn't the main mascot.

Oh, and as I've said before, there is nothing wrong with innovative new characters or games. Wario Ware, Inc was stupendous in it's innovation. I would have purchased it whether bad or good just to help encourage game design like that.

Yeah, but Wario Ware is a Mario game.
This is pretty stupid. I don't think they'll "replace" Mario. Not while Shiggy's still around. And not when I get a job in Nintendo game development... heh heh heh...
That was a joke.

Ditto to CW. I'm gonna get a job at Nintendo, too. Well, I hope to. :P  Ditto also to Luigison...and Lizard Dude. :P

They won't "replace" them; *I* won't let them. Heheh... No seriously, Mario and Pokemon games bring in the moolah, so they're not gonna go anywhere. I actually encourage Ninty to make unique, more 'mature' series, for then people will see it as 'cooler' and not be so critizing. Most of the 'mature' games they make are available to all three systems. Making exclusive 'mature' titles would give egocentric people stuck on "violence = mature = coolness" a reason to like GameCube. It's sad, but that's the way people are. Ya gotta do what the people like or you don't get very far.

Yeah, people nowadays just like all that blood and gore.  Now don't get me wrong, some Mature games are great, like Eternal Darkness, and Resident Evil, but I think Mario, Zelda, and Star Fox will always be the best. (Unless, that is, Mario becomes a flamingo)
