In the NES smash Ice Hockey, when you pause the game, it is the exact same pause sound as Super Mario Bros.

Yeah, and the Balloon Fight pause noise is the same as the Excitebike pause noise.

Hey, I was trying to point out that it wasn't a reference. I was trying to illustrate the fact that a lot of old NES games have similar sound effects.
