Well in one of the cartoons, a paper of Mario's profile was shown.

Name: Mario Mario.

However, In the games, I've never seen his full name.

MB and Watoad, I don't know what's the matter with you two. What I said makes plenty of sense for an imaginary, cartoon-like character. (Mickey and Minnie Mouse having the same "last name" doesn't make real-life sense either, does it? Hmm?)

No matter what you guys say, I will not stop believing that his name ISN'T Mario Mario.

...but they define Mario as "Super" when he's power-up'd by a mushroom.

True... But now a days, he doesn't need mushrooms to make him grow.

Mickey is a MOUSE.  Minnie is a MOUSE.  Their names describe what they are and make perfect sense.  Therefore your example is not relevant.  Try again.

Real fine way to hold an argument.

No, it's not.  Every game contradicts this assertion.

I just had some confirmation that "Mario Mario" has been used several times by Nintendo Official Magazine UK.  I'm still trying to track down a US reference, but I found another place that said Nintendo Power said their last names were Mario.  It was probably one from the summer of 1993 around the time of the movie (again, I can't check myself because my Nintendo Powers are on the other side of the country).

I don't care what it says in a magazine, even if it is an official one. That's never mentioned in a game, so I don't have to accept it. Even things in instruction booklets don't always have to be considered true (I certainly won't listen to that stuff in the SMB2 manual about Birdo being a transvestite, especially since that was later officially changed in the games (she was called a girl in SSBM)).

Birdo was always a girl. I'm fairly sure in the manual of Super Mario USA or even Yume Koujou Doki Doki Panikku says nothing about Birdo being a guy thinking he was a girl.

Early North American instruction manuals = Crap.

If MegaByte says is true (and I'm pretty sure he is telling the truth), and the official magazines come from the people at Nintendo themselves (obviously), then it must be true.

I've always supported the theory (I don't think I can call it that anymore) that Mario and Luigi's last name was Mario, but I never cared about it much to talk about it.

I don't have to consider it true; I can think what I want so long as it doesn't interfere with common sense (like if Mario was called Mario Mario in a game, which he isn't). And the American SMB2 manual does say Birdo is male; I got the manual.

I know it says that.

When I said "Super Mario USA", I meant "Super Mario USA" as in the Japanese version of the Super Mario Bros. 2 that we got.

Because, as I said before:

Early North American instruction manuals = Crap.

The Super Mario USA manual was basically a translation of the SMB2 (US) manual, and thus also contains the gender-bender Birdo reference.  I don't have the DDP manual.

Ah, well...

...I really don't have much else to say, other than the fact that I do think Mario's last name is Mario.
