The Princess Who Became Queen
A story of Mario and his lesser-known brother Luigi

Mario stretched across the bed in his room. It was early morning, 7:00 a.m. He was supposed to go to the royal celebration where the Princess was to be crowned Queen of the Mushroom Kingdom. Mario looked at the clock on the wall across from him--5 slow minutes had passed.

"Hey, Mario!" Luigi called from the kitchen. "Breakfast is ready!"

Mario slowly got up from his bed and yawned. He could smell the aromas of smoked sausage and golden brown pancakes as he walked out to the kitchen. Mario opened the refrigerator and poured himself a glass of orange juice.

"Mmm, smells good!" Mario said as he sat down at the table and opened up the weekly issue of ShroomLiving Weekly.

A knock at the door as Toad walked in; he was pulling Yoshi by a leash, who had a bag of groceries on his back.

"I got the groceries you wanted!" Toad said as he put the bag on the table. "I got Shroom Cakes, Honey Fried Shrooms, and Spicy Soup."

"Good. I guess we have everything we need for the party." Luigi said as he served Mario a pancake and 2 smoked sausages.

"Hey! Where's my other sausage?" Luigi shouted as he looked at his plate.

Yoshi opened his mouth and spat out a slimy chunky sausage. The partially-digested sausage piece fell to the floor in front of Toad, who picked it up carefully and tossed it in the garbage can.

"Argh, Yoshi! I told you not to steal my food!" Luigi shouted at the green dino.

Mario laughed and took a bite of his pancake.

Meanwhile, at Koopa Kingdom...

"Ha ha! I gotcha!" Lemmy Koopa playfully tagged his brother Iggy with a fireball.

"Ouch, hey! That hurt!" Iggy shouted as Lemmy hid behind a stone pillar.

Just then, the castle boomed and quaked with loud thunderous footsteps. The large metal gates of Bowser's throne room burst open and a huge metallic robot entered the room. The cinematic camera zoomed forward, up to the machine's large bright-red glaring eyes, and showed Ludwig von Koopa at the controls. Ludwig laughed wickedly as he shouted through the loudspeaker attached to the control board.

"Hey, King Dad! Look at what I made!" Ludwig said as he brushed his bright blue hair back with his clawed fingers.

Iggy and Lemmy immediately froze as the huge machine moved and twisted rhythimically.

Bowser, who was sitting on his throne, glared at the robot. "Hmm, very impresive! It seems I've raised a particularly brilliant son of mine! You two could learn a thing or two from Ludwig."

"But King Dad, we're not smart enough to build anything that impressive!" Iggy said as he twisted his wild rainbow-colored hair with one of his claws.

"Exactly!" Bowser laughed. "Ludwig von Koopa's surely one of a kind!"

"Become amazed with the awesome power my machine can accomplish!" Ludwig's voice boomed over the loudspeaker. "This is the KoopaTron 5000. It has dual laser cannons mounted on it's solid-steel shell. It has the ability to hover precisely 5 feet off the ground using it's 4 jet thrusters built into it's feet."

Bowser got up from his posture in his seat and examined the machine carefully. He flicked the robot's solid titanium-covered iron body with his claw and sneered at the bright-red glowing eyes above him.

"Well, King Dad...what do you think of my amazing creation?" Ludwig asked.

"Gah ha ha ha!" Bowser laughed as Ludwig pressed a button on the control board. A hatch opened up slightly above the robot's eyes, and Ludwig lowered himself to the ground using a chain rope attached to the door.

"This machine's surely going to put a stop to those pesky plumber's adventures!" Bowser said. "I think we should take an unexpected and uninvited visit to the Princess's party! Then, when everyone is unaware of what's happening, BOOOM! we'll blow the whole castle to smithereens!"

Bowser and Ludwig both laughed in unison as the cinematic camera zoomed away, past the mechanical robot, over the moat of boiling lava surrounding Bowser's throne, out of the black-colored iron gates that guarded the castle, and up into the dark ominous clouds in the sky...

Trumpets souded and flags waved across the land as the royal lady of the Mushroom Kingdom was being escorted to the castle, riding in her royal carriage. Crowds of adoring residents cheered as the carriage crossed the bridge leading to the castle gates. The soldiers who were patrolling the gates stood aside to let the Princess pass. The carriage stopped at the entrance to the castle as a young servant opened the carriage door to let the Princess climb out. the Princess walked to the gates and ordered the guards to open the doors.

The inside of the castle was filled with hustling people and decorations. A large table covered with a white cloth was in the center of the main hall, filled with a large assortment of foods and snacks: Honey Shrooms, Candied Berries, and Berry Cakes were just some of the large variety of foods to choose from.

A large red carpet rolled out from the upper staircase above the main hall, and an elderly Toad walked down it--carrying a large golden crown that had previously belonged to the Princess's mother, Queen Mary Toadstool.

The crowd silenced as the Princess walked up to the elderly Toad and lowered her head and the crown was placed on her golden plumage of hair. She turned around and smiled as the crowd cheered for their newest queen in almost a century.

Mario wept as he watched the celebration from a balcony above the main hall.

"It's so... be-be-beau-ooh-ooh-hoo-hoo-hooooo...!" Mario buried his head into Luigi's blue-collared shirt.

"It's okay, bro." Luigi said, trying to comfort his older brother. "Everything's going to be okay from now on... Bowser's dead and we're all happy--and that's all that matters!"

Ha ha ha! Good one frostbite! I made up her mother's name, Queen Mary Toadstool. And if you were paying attention to the story, I said that Peach inherited the crown from her mother who had passed-away.

Peach walked away from the crowd and went up the balcony to see Mario and Luigi.

"Well, your royal Queenship, I am very honored to be in your presence." Mario said politely as he bowed down before the now-Queen Peach Toadstool.

Peach adjusted her crown and said in her most pleasent voice, "Would you like to come downstairs and join the celebration with me?"

"Oh would I!" Mario said spasmatically, but Luigi grabbed him by the suspenders before he could dash off to the food table.

"Calm down, big bro. There'll be plenty of food left when we get down there!" Luigi said.

"Um Luigi, can you please leave so I can have some privacy with Mario?"

"Surely, your Highness." Luigi said. "But isn't this not the right place to be getting intimate with your future husband?"

Peach laughed, covering her mouth in embarrassment. "I wasn't talking about being intimate with Mario; I just want to have a private conversation with him, that's all!"

"Sure Princess, I mean Queen Peach. I'll be gladly going now!" Luigi said jokingly as he walked down the balcony stairs.

"So Mario," Peach said as she sat down onto a soft chair. "I hear you've been quite busy with your days off from fighting Bowser and his army of Koopas. What do you do during your time off, anyway?"

"Well, first I lounge about on the couch all day, then I drink a few beers and watch some MTV!" Mario joked. "No, seriously, I spend my time hanging out with Luigi and Yoshi. We go for long walks in the park and journey from island to island via Warp Pipes. Y'know...fun stuff!"

"Sounds like fun!" Peach said as she scooted a little closer next to Mario... "I wonder what happened to Bowser anyway..."

"Achem...uh, I don't know..." Mario gulped to get the anticipation out of his mind. "I wish you'd rather not sit so closely next to me. I'm uh, a little claustrophobic..."

"I'm just trying to be friendly to you Mario. Don't be too offended by that." Peach put her arm around Mario.

"I never said I was offended...I just don't feel comfortable sitting so closely next to someone of so much importance..." Mario straightened out his shirt collar.

Just then, Toad walked in on Peach and Mario. "Ha! I knew you two would be getting it on up here!"

"Toad! I didn't hear you come in..." Peach said as she fluffed up her pink dress. "I wasn't doing anything intimate with Mario, we were just having a quiet conversation."

"Yeah, right. Anyway, I came up here to warn you of some bad news." Toad said as he blinked his tiny coal-black eyes.

"What is it? Is something wrong?" Peach asked.

"Well, Yoshi's got his head stuck in the punch bowl again!" Toad said as he started laughing.

"Oh my goodness. We must do something about this quickly!" Peach said, trying to hold back her enthusiasm.

Back at Koopa Kingdom...

"Do you have the machine ready, Ludwig?" Bowser said over the loudspeaker.
He was outside the castle with Ludwig, who was finishing the final adjustments on his robot.

"Yes, King Dad, all set!" Ludwig said as he fastened the remaining screws onto the Koopa robot. "I think I've almost got 'er ready to go!"

"Good, cause we don't have much time left before the Princess's party is over!" Bowser said, scratching his yellow scaily belly with his clawed fingers.

"Master," a Goomba in a yellow hard-hat said as it walked up to talk to the monsterous Bowser. "I have a location of the Mario brothers whereabouts..."

"Tell me where they are." Bowser said.

"They are still at the celebration, but..."

"But what...?" Bowser said as he looked up at Ludwig.

"They are trying to save the dinosaur Yoshi from...ha ha... certain disaster!" The Goomba chuckled, exposing its sharp white fangs.

"Good, this is the perfect time to strike them when they are least expecting it!" Bowser said. "Go round up the other Koopalings! I want all of them to be with me and wittness the death of Mario and the Mushroom Kingdom!"

The Goomba rushed away towards the castle.

"Aww, come on. Why do I always have to be the last to know?" Roy Koopa asked the Goomba when he learned the news.

"I don't know, ask your father." The Goomba said. "He just sent me up here to get you guys...I think he has some sort of plans up his sleeve."

"What, my dad doesn't wear shirts!" Roy said.

"I was an expression...You know what I meant!" the Goomba said.

"Hey Wendy, Iggy, Larry, Morton Jr., Lemmy...COME HERE!" Roy yelled out his bedroom door.

Iggy, Wendy, Larry, Lemmy, and Morton Jr. all rushed in to see what their second-oldest brother was yelling about.

"What do you want, reptile breath?" Wendy O. Koopa snorted. "I was busy putting on my most fabulous makeup!"

"Heh heh... Looks like you engorged yourself!" Lemmy said, chuckling.

"Shut up! I don't need any comments from you, powder-head!" Wendy shouted.

Morton muttered to Larry. "Now I know who's side of the family Wendy comes from..."

"Will you guys just chill out!" Roy said as he stomped his foot on the ground, causing a small tremble through the castle walls. "Dad needs us outside! I think he's planning on another invasion or something..."

"Another invasion! That means we can finally get back in action!" Larry said. "Ah, the good old days of taking over the Mushroom Kingdom..."

"We only did that once, remember?" Iggy said. "Dad expelled us from Koopa School because we were being too naughty!"

"Yeah, but this time we'll show him what true teamwork is really about!" Morton Jr. said.

"That is if he'll let us fight again..." Larry said. "The last two times we were in a fight with the Mario brothers, we got our reptillian butts kicked!"

"Ah to hell with those Mario brothers! Who needs 'em anyway?" Wendy said.

"Well, now that we're older and somewhat smarter, I'm pretty sure dad'll trust us in another invasion..." Roy said.

"Don't forget stronger! We're also stronger!" Lemmy said goofily.

"Lemmy, you've been a wimp ever since you started balancing on that toy ball of yours! You're too old for that stuff now!" Larry said.

"All right you guys, enough arguing!" the Goomba interrupted. "I have orders to take you to your father, and I'm going to follow them! Now come with me!"

"Jeeze, bossy little fella, ain't he?" Wendy said.

"Yeah, look who's talking!" Iggy said.

"Hey Mario!" Peach said as she took a sip of Koopa Tea. "You know it's time for the annual Mushroom Kingdom parade soon. I would like it if you could join me..."

"Just a second, Queen Toadstool, I'm busy trying to get Yoshi's head out of the punchbowl!" Mario said, struggling to pull the helpless dinosaur to freedom...

POP! The punchbowl flew across the room, landing safely on a nearby felt pillow.

"Well, talk about a safe landing!" Luigi said sarcastically.

"Are you okay Yoshi?" Peach asked, checking the poor green dinosaur for any bruises.

Yoshi licked Peach's hand in delight. each giggled. "Oh Yoshi, you had us so worried!"

Yoshi got up and went to his nap basket [Yes, Yoshi is Mario's pet in my story].

"Anyway, Mario... I was talking about the Mushroom Kingdom parade coming up soon..." Peach looked at Mario, who was wiping the remaining juice stains off his shirt.

"Huh, oh yeah! Well, I'd gladly join you Peach! When is this parade?" Mario asked.

"It's next week, on Thursday." Peach said, but was soon interrupted by a lone servant, who had rushed up to tell Peach some bad news...

"Um, your Majesty. I'm afraid the parade will have to be postponed." the servant said.

"Oh, what's the matter now?" Peached asked.

"Just look outside..." the servant pointed to a nearby window covered with a large drape.

Mario walked over to the window and pulled aside the drape, looking outside. "Oh my God..."

The sky was thundering and lightning as big drops of rain splattered on the sides of the castle. Mario looked up and saw a huge flying ship  streaking across the sky.

"Oh no..." Mario said turning to Peach and Luigi.

"What?" Peach asked.

"You're never going to believe this..." Mario said.

"Let me see.." Peach said as she peered out the window.

To their surprise, Bowser's Doomship was hovering above them...

Any subscriber if the Super Power Club will remember that she is technically queen, because her mom is dead and her father has padded walls.

Did you see the TAOSMB3 episode, "Princess Toadstool for President"? This leads me to believe that, like in England, the monarchs are just figureheads, and they have no real ruling power.

Peach, as well as being the princess, is the president, in a country where they have no amendment saying that you can only be president for 3 terms (or is it two?).
