Question about Peach

This could be a companion piece to my "Toad's gender" post.

What race is Princess Peach?  Is she human like Mario and Luigi?  Because if she is, how is this non-mushroom the reigning monarch of the Mushroom Kingdom?  Her grandma in SMRPG seemed very much so a shroom.  Do we ever meet her other family in an actual game?  Maybe Peach is a hyper-evolved shroom who looses her shroomness... Or maybe, as some astute gamer pointed out, Peach is simply the Farrah Fawcett from Mario's dimension.

A human can be king of Goblins in "Labyrinth," so I figure a human can be princess of mushrooms in "Mario."

Maybe the "mushroom head" that is the trademark of the mushroom people is just some sort of cultural head-gear. You know, like a hat. In SMRPG, female shrooms have hair coming out from under their 'hats'. Perhaps Peach is just a very tall shroom person who prefers to not were the traditional hat.

Speaking of odd royality, ever notice how Bowser and his kids are very different from the rest of the Koopa race? They have hair, spikey shells, teeth and fire breath! Not to mention their extra-large size.

Peach's a mushroom person, she just doesn't wear the mushroom hat. But that would just leave out her size. Well all the Mushroom people can't be the same size as Toad, can they?

I have 2 explanations for Peach:
1. Peach and Daisy belong to an all-female race of humanoid Nymphs from Mushroom World.
2. There is a rare dominant race of humanoids including the Toadstools and all those kings in "Super Mario Bros. 3" that reign over the Mushroomites in various kingdoms.
