Author Topic: Bowser: Epitome of Evil or Bumbling Baffoon?  (Read 3540 times)

In my honest opinion the games in general have went from an almost "Modern Day Fairytale" to a "Saturday Morning Cartoon" joke fest.

In your mind (not necessarily how the games portray him) do you think Bowser is a serious threat or merely a charicature of a dumb criminal.

IMO I think they should cut the humor when dealing with Bowser, and try and restore his character into something that is ferocious and intimidating. I thought they were going that root with Super Smash Brothers Melee, but in Super Mario Sunshine they went the complete opposite

So what kind of character is King Bowser Koopa? The epitome of all evil or a bumbling Saturday morning cartoon villain?

I think Bowser is  is really evil, but with a sense of humar.

p.s. I know I spelled humar wrong so whatever.

Well, what do I think of Bowser? Well...

Bowser, in my mind, really truly IS evil. He does all the things he does for personal gain. He isn't a  "Let's blow up the world!" evil, moreso too greedy for his own good.

Anyways, unfortunatly Bowser is a bit too dense for his own good. He isn't very intelligent. I mean, let's look at SMB1. He leaves an axe right behind him! This shows his stupidity in 2 ways:

1. He leaves an axe! I mean, put the axe away or something!
2. He should take the axe and chop MARIO off!

As the games go on, Boswer's idiocy problem that impedes on everything he is trying to accomplish, everything he wants to gain, merely results in more humorous consequences. He seems to gain a more macho and overconfident attitude as the games go on, and this makes him look more rediculous when you defeat him.

I haven't played SMS. Don't ask me about Bowser there.

So, what DO I think about Bowser? He's greedy yet to dense to make anything out of it.

PS: I will begin to not care about spelling errors. I make them too, so...

Everyone has their own opinions, no matter how WRONG they are.

Bowser is an evil genius!Telling his son to try and get Mario in jail but failed but who cares about failing.Plus I wanna know how he mde his son transform into a replica of Mario.I think Bowser fails on purpose, and dont say hes dumb coz hes one of my favorite Mario chars! He should team up with other bad guys from other Nintendo frachises like Ganondorf,King Dedede,Andross and others. Then he wouldnt fail!

Ganondorf and Andross have way more on the ball than Bowser and King Dedede.
Anyway, I prettymuch agree with Steve here. Bowser has the potential, but not the means. His empire seems to be run by flunkies, of which Shy Guys seem the most intelligent..
That was a joke.

I like how Shy Guys talk,"err...umm...hello..."(MP4)I had this dream last night that there was a Ku Klux Klan in Mushroom Kingdom. They were all White Shy Guys!

Bowser is really evil, but he is kind of dumb.  At times he doesn't realize that his destruction is actually assistance: SMB3, or that something he uses as a weapon can be used against him: SMW and yet he still continues with the trends.

(Warning: SPoilesr for Mario Sunshine, Paper Mario, Mario 64, Super Mario Brothers 3, And uh...SMB 1?)

Although Bowser may seem to be just a "Joke" villian, I think that Bowser is a decent villian-his only real major flaw is a little bit of near sightedness. Take Super Mario 3, for example. Not only did Bowser manage to strategicaly deploy his children to take over kingdomes, but Bowser was basically building an entire army in the Dark World. Just think, if Mario hadn't gotten himself there and destroyed the army, there would've been a full scale invasion/assualt on the world. When you finally corner Bowser in his castle, he's probably a little flustered. He wasn't prepared for you to burst in, and a little flustered, decides to simple hurl his massive bulk and crush the Italian Plumber. How was he supposed to know there was hole underneath those bricks? It's not like he can see through walls. Neither can, Mario, really. If you, the player, wouldn't of been there to assist Mario, Bowser's stomping antics would of eventually stomped him.

The Axe in SMB1? It was obviously a lode bearing axe, possibly meaning that the castles at the end of the level were make shift, and only meant to be temporary strongholds.

Next, let us examine Super Mario World. It wasn't the most thought out plan...Something about stealing Yoshi Eggs and taking over Dinosaur Land? I think that Bowser wasn't fully finished with this plan, because obviously he had no way of knowing that Mario was going to pick this area as a vacation. Once again, if Mario hadn't shown up, Bowser might of succeded. The Yoshis were the only real inhabitants of Dinosaur Land (Or at least the ones we encountered), and they were overwhelmed almost completly.

The next major plan we'll examine is the one in Super Mario 64. This was a rather ingenious plan-certailny showing the more creative side of our favorite villian. Bowser managed to penetrate the Mushroom Kingdom Castle and take it over internaly. Then, use magic to lock stuff into paintings! This time Bowser took into consideration that Mario might show up (As evidenced by his message to you when you first enter the castle for the first time). What was Bowser's Critical mistake here? Not adapting. He figured that his plan of being gigantic and stomping around and breath fire didn't work the first two times, so by logic, unless Mario got stupid, it wouldn't work the third.

Paper Mario is probably simutaneously the shining example of Bowser as a villian, and as a comic character. Bowser broke into Star Road, scattered the stars, and stole the Star Rod, and became invincible. He was invincible, folks. Impressive. But his weakness turned out to be his feelings for his crush, Peach. If Bowser would of treated Peach more like a prisoner and less like a bride to be, Twink either would of been caught or simply unable to assit the princess. Then, There would of been no wishing granting to create the Peach Beam, thereby making Bowser vincbile again.

And finally...I haven't finished Mario Sunshine, I was in Corona Mountain last time I played (THE BOAT! ARRRRRGH!), but so far in the game Bowser has done nothing. Everything seems to be the work of Bowser JR. I don't think it can be classified as a Bowser plan.

Now, we can see Bowser's respective character flaws: Short sighedness(Not expecting Mario to show up), unability to work under pressure (Some of his stupid attack patterns), and Malignant love sickness (Peach). However, regardless of his character flaws, he's managed to accomplish some pretty impressive feats and obviously has an exntensive resource. But! There's another problem constantly runing his plans that is something out of his control. I think Bowser's True problem is that not that he's a poor villian, but that Mario is just too great of an action hero. Maybe the truth is, Bowser just can't win. But perhaps, someday in the future, Bowser shall over come his character flaws and triumph over his arch nemesis and establish a new world order with him as the Totalitarian dictator. Hail King Bowser.

Bowser is an extremely brilliant strategist. but  he doesn't think things down to the last detail, and that allows mario to find a weakness in a lot of bowser's plans.
On top of that, he leaves far too much up to his incompetent minions. He should use more shyguys
and poison mushrooms and less koopas and goombas.  more chain chomps would be a good idea too...

The world would be a much cleaner place if people would eat their own trash.

Well, In SMS, it really is Bowser's plan, and he must really be evil, because he used his own son as a pawn in his evil plan. He told poor Bowser Jr. that Peach was his mom, and that he should rescue her from Mario. This is one of his plans with the least morality. *SPOILER*
Then, of course, Bowser Jr. said he knew Peach wasn't his mom....

I write poetry when I`m not looking.
That was a joke.
