Author Topic: The Ultimate Mario List?  (Read 5019 times)

« on: January 09, 2009, 09:11:41 PM »
I've attempted to come up with a list of every main Super Mario Bros. adventure game.  By "adventure game," I refer mostly to the 2D side-scrollers, the RPGs, and the 3D platformers.  Pretty much any big Mario game with a storyline.  That means no Mario Karts, sports, or other spinoffs.  So here goes...

Super Mario Bros. (Super Mario Bros. 1)
Super Mario Bros. 2 (Super Mario Bros. 2)
Super Mario Land (Super Mario Bros. 2.5)
Super Mario Bros. 3 (Super Mario Bros. 3)
Super Mario World (Super Mario Bros. 4)
Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins (Super Mario Bros. 4.5)
Super Mario World 2: Yoshi's Island (Super Mario Bros. 5, not chronologically, but as in the fifth big game involving the Mario Bros.)
Super Mario RPG: Legend of the Seven Stars (Super Mario Bros. 6)
Super Mario 64 (Super Mario Bros. 7)
Paper Mario (Super Mario Bros. 8)
Luigi's Mansion (Super Mario Bros. 9, yes, Luigi is a Mario brother)
Super Mario Sunshine (Super Mario Bros. 10)
Mario & Luigi: Superstar Saga (Super Mario Bros. 11)
Paper Mario: The Thousand-Year Door (Super Mario Bros. 12)
Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time (Super Mario Bros. 13)
New Super Mario Bros. (Super Mario Bros. 14)
Yoshi's Island DS (Super Mario Bros. 15)
Super Paper Mario (Super Mario Bros. 16)
Super Mario Galaxy (Super Mario Bros. 17)
Mario & Luigi RPG 3 (Super Mario Bros. 18)

The reason I include the Super Mario Land games as fractions is for the same reason why Donkey Kong Land wasn't Donkey Kong Country 2.  I feel that the Land games feel more like mini-episodic events rather than the next big adventure.  Did I miss a game?  Do you disagree?  Discuss.

TMK already has an archive (list) of Mario games. It's on the front page of this website.

I know that.  I mean it in a more of a debatable sense, as in which games should be considered part of the "main/major adventures."  For example, Yoshi's Safari has a story, so should it be "Super Mario Bros. 5?"

I think New SMB is better than Sunshine and Galaxy..... please don't kill me I'm just very old school and am pushing 30 (so New SMB is like being a kid all over for me lol)

Plus anyone know if there'll be a sequel on DS???

I think it was confirmed to be in the works (along with SMG2).

If this is a timeline, its wrong. I'd like to think of Super Mario Land 1 & 2, are Mario's first adventures.
Unless you are cloned, you do not need to look like a midget version of your dad. Okay Bowser Jr.?

Hmm.. I was thinking of making a timeline, but I didn't even consider the Gameboy games. This is going to take some more thought.
Kinopio is the ultimate video game character! Who else can drive a kart, host parties, play tennis, give good advice and items, and is almost always happy??

Ugh, timelines don't work anyway, and even if they did, SML1&2 would not be the beginning.

What happened to SMB2j?
That was a joke.

What about the Gameboy titles?
Super Mario Land
Super Mario Land 2: 6 golden Coins
Are the Wario Land games counted also?

A timeline is easy. Just put all the Yoshi's Island games in the beginning, and the rest happened in the order they were released.
