Okay,
I sometimes try to prove mariology theories by saying that the evidence is in SMRPG.  However, some Mario fans don't consider SMRPG canonical, because it was made by Square.  A few interesting details were put into SMRPG including lots of new characters (that for the most part haven't been seen since), a Mushroom Chancellor (Peach wasn't the head of government), a new layout to the mushroom world, and yoshi's toes.  So, how many people consider SMRPG to be within the Mario canon?

I consider it part of the canon, but if one of the more "official" games contains something that is contradicted in SMRPG, I'll go with the "official" game first.

At the Mariology forum Forum we've concluded the SMRPG area is another part of the Mushroom Kingdom ( Like Hawaii to the US ). The Chancellor rules that area while Peach rules the Paper Mario/Mario&Luigi area.

That's interesting...  But how can there be more than one Bowser's Castle at the same time?

I always thought it was completly canonical. I also think the Chancellor does the real ruling of the Mushroom Kingdom and that Peach is merely the Kingdom's figurehead.

I've always thought that it shows the area to the right of the map in Paper Mario 1, which also represents the areas from SMB3. Bowser has had many different castles over the years, so the one he had as of SMRPG happened to be located on Vista Hill.

I don't really see it as something that should be excluded from the timeline of other Mario RPG's, but in terms of the other Mario games, it doesn't fit the timeline.

Timeline? How doesn't it fit this so-called "timeline" that apparently exists?

That's what I usually think, but somehow Toadsworth seems to be looking after the Princess nowadays.  I just wonder what they did with the chancellor (maybe Toadsworth keeps him locked in the basement.)  I wish that Nintendo would bring back more elements of SMRPG into recent games.  Geno was in M&L:SS but I'd like to see Mallow around sometime...

I guess we don't see the Chancellor because he's busy running the kingdom. And that usually isn't too interesting.

Well,  the Chancellor's Japanese name translates as "Mushroom Cabinet Minister", so I'd say he's the same guy as the minister from Paper Mario 1. Guess the Mushroom Kingdom is really a republic.

But then wouldn't it be "The Republic of Mushroom Land" ?  But it's the Mushroom Kingdom, so it has to be a monarchy, right?

Er, no the UK is a constitutional monarchy actually.

Anyway, how can the mushroom kingdom be a kingdom if  there is no king or queen ruling it? If peach is the ruler, then it would technically be a principality (like Wales is).

As for SMRPG being canon, I'd say yes.

I still say that King and Queen Toadstool are dead or at least missing, and Peach has to get married to become the next queen.

To quote the Wikipedia:
Quote
Adding to the confusion, the game Mario Superstar Baseball and Nintendo's official website for Mario & Luigi: Partners in Time refer to Toadsworth as Peach's father--which would be confusing even without the existence of a previous "Mushroom King," as Toadsworth (an anthropomorphic mushroom) and Peach (a human) are apparently members of two different species.
So, I think Toadsworth really has replaced the Mushroom Chancellor/King Toadstool.  Unless the Mushroom Chancellor's name is actually Toadsworth....

Perhaps Toadsworth was an adoptive father of Peach.

Mario Baseball does not refer to Toadsworth as Peach's father. There is however, a joke about about Peach's grandfather:

Lakitu: You're bringing your grandpa!? No wait, it's just Toadsworth.

Whoever added that to the Wiki article is wrong.

I said this a long time ago in the Mariology thread that perhaps Peach and Toadsworth's relationship is similar to that of Zelda and Impa's.  What I mean is that Toadsworth's and Impa's roles are similar.

Maybe Peach's castle has secret rooms, where the important official stuff happens.

Well, as long as Nintendo had SOMETHING to do with it, I'd say it's canonical. Back when that game was made, it's not like a lot of Mario's world was set in stone, seeing as there had only been platformers.

And how would Princess Peach rule under any circumstances, anyway? She's a princess!

It is a Mario game, and I believe that it fits in well with the Mario "canon." Yes, Toadsworth is Peach's father.
The Mario series is the best! It has every genre in video games but RTS'! It also has a plumber who does different roles, a princess, and a lot of odd creatures who don't seem to poop!

I would think Peach's father (if he's still alive) would be too busy governing the kingdom to worry himself on the welfare of his daughter.  That's where Toadsworth comes into play.  So no, Toadsworth is not Peach's father; he's kinda her father figure, but not her actual father.
