Game Blog / Disc Read Error: Mario Kart Wii
« on: April 11, 2008, 07:58:29 PM »

Some of you might have experienced the problems Wii is having with double-layer discs. It started with Super Smash Bros. Brawl and now Mario Kart Wii buyers are experiencing their games freezing or crashing altogether. Of course, Nintendo is offering free Wii cleanings to fix the problem, but just a heads up Wii owners: We aren't out of the woods yet.

Game Blog / UPDATE: Mario Kart Wii Cheaters Emerge
« on: April 11, 2008, 07:47:19 PM »

You can take snaking out of Mario Kart, but you can't take snakes out of Mario Kart. Euro gamers are reporting across the 'net that cheaters have descended upon Mario Kart Wii's online time trials. Certain players out there are exploiting a cheat that allows them to rank a low time trial without finishing a full go around. Nintendo hasn't made an official comment as to whether or not they will fix this bug. Let's hope they do as soon as possible!

Amazon.com 's Gold Box features a new item on sale for a limited time, and today's special item was Mario & Sonic at the Olympic Games. I say was because as of this posting, the item is sold out! The low low price of $29.99 can no longer be yours, but maybe you can get lucky on ebay.com if you really want this game.

Game Blog / Nintendo UK Doesn't Confirm Mario Baseball Release
« on: April 11, 2008, 10:06:12 AM »

Nintendo UK has decided to remain hush-hush about a possible Mario Super Sluggers release for European territories. When videogamer.com attempted to get a confirmation of the game's release for the region, Nintendo UK stated they had "no current announcements".

The more I read about the game, the more I feel it will be better than the first, if only because it will implement the batting mechanic found in Wii Baseball. If you got something to say about Mario Super Sluggers, we got a special thread for it in our forums! Check it out here.

Game Blog / Mario and Color-Blind Gamers
« on: April 11, 2008, 12:40:33 AM »

Color-Blindness and video games are never something I thought about until I saw this article. I'm sure a lot of color-blind people play video games, but is their enjoyment any less because of their impairment? Should developers try to accommodate to these individuals? Mario titles do use a very broad palette of colors, but would it matter to you if all you could recognize was the picture on the right? Much like some games have subtitles, the writer of the below linked article believes options to enhance the gaming experience for them should be implemented.

Anyone else care to voice their opinion?

« on: April 10, 2008, 09:38:53 PM »

That image was grabbed by a gonintendo.com reader, who received it via an email from Toys R' Us Austrailia. Solid release date, or simply wishful thinking? Speculate in the Fungi Forums!

Game Blog / Mario Kart Wii JP and Freeloader DO Mix
« on: April 10, 2008, 09:36:10 PM »

Ok, Play-Asia's email was apparently a series of mis-information (sort of). NCSX, which you might recall carries a warehouse full of cool gaming merchandise, has tested Mario Kart Wii (JP version) on their US Wii's using Freeloader. It definitely DOES work for them, however, there is a catch. Read the details at their blog below!

Game Blog / 10 Missed Mario Kart Features
« on: April 10, 2008, 09:07:41 PM »

We all have fond memories of Super Mario Kart. While some features (like CPU-only special weapons) are best left in the past, there are plenty of things missing from current entries that take away some of the magic. CVG has listed their top 10 missed features from Super Mario Kart, and I would agree with most of them. I personally miss coins and lives, as it added an extra level of difficulty. What about you? Read their choices and let me know what you'd add/remove!

Game Blog / Rumor: Mario Superstar Baseball Coming June 19th
« on: April 09, 2008, 06:29:57 PM »

Famitsu's April issue is reporting that Mario Superstar Baseball (Wii) is set to release June 19th in Japan. If the rumor turns out to be true, that possibly means a North American (and presumably European) release wouldn't be fair behind. The Nintendo Media Summit, being held tomorrow and Friday in North America, will hopefully bring light to some new Mario related titles and release dates.

UPDATE: Thanks to some new information, the release date has been confirmed for Japan.

Game Blog / GameStop Midnight Launch for Mario Kart Wii in Europe
« on: April 09, 2008, 06:12:35 PM »

Honestly, when I heard the news, I was a bit surprised. Not that I am trying to downplay Mario Kart Wii's popularity, rather that GameStop is going to go this extra mile to open their stores that late for the game. As I read on, however, it seems this midnight launch is only being held at one store, with the other 49 stores in Europe holding off until normal business hours the next day. The lucky GameStop location is the Henry Street store, so anyone in that area is encouraged to stroll in on Thursday night and pick up a copy. As long as you had a reservation, that is.

If any visitors to TMK are attending, please let us know and post some pictures. Who knows what zany characters will come out for the game!

Game Blog / Nintendo All-Stars Brawl on Converse Shoes
« on: April 09, 2008, 11:51:07 AM »

Artist Cole Ranze created the custom kicks you see above. According to his deviantart.com profile, he made these for a friend, yet he's gone ahead and decided to place them for sale on Ebay. As if this post, the bidding is at $249.99, and keep in mind it probably wouldn't be best to wear these. No, my friend, you aren't bidding on shoes, you are bidding on a work of art. If you want Mario shoes, you would have had better luck ordering these. More pictures at the Ebay link!

Game Blog / Artist Breathes Life into Real Life Mario
« on: April 09, 2008, 07:32:41 AM »

For the last month or so, a picture of a real-life looking Mario has been posted on the internet, but something was missing from that picture. While he did indeed look real, he didn't have that fire in his eyes that a real human being does. Well, a Deviant artist by the username of Portrix has decided to try and captivate that human essence by animating the Mario picture. The result? A really errie and disturbing version of Super Mario 64 start screen. I suggest you follow the link below at your own discretion.
