He couldn't possibly be pointing. Yoshi only licks foward, and he licks even when nothing's there. There's definitly some contact.

Explain why Yoshi licks at nothing at times in Yoshi's Island then. Mario couldn't be hitting him there, he's looking behind Yoshi, and Mario doesn't seem to know what's going on unless he's hit anyway.

Anyway, about Mario abusing the other animals, I think Mario is really seeking revenge on them for abusing him when he was a baby.

Mario, Mario, Mario! What happened to Mr. Andretti?

No, I checked it again, and he is DEFINATLY hitting Yoshi, not pointing. This may be to get a certain automatic response (i.e., sticking the tongue out) from Yoshi.... But there are 2 reasons I think this:

1. Notice the forward motion of Mario's arm. It is not a bent, pointing motion, but more of a striaght forward, hitting motion.

2. If you look at Mario's hand, there is no finger extended to point with. It is simply a closed fist.

There you have it.

You know what? I got really, really bored one day so I decided to change my signature.

That's because Mario's hands have never shown fingers except recently here in SSBM and SMS.

He's got fingers when he needs to make a two-fingered v-sign, both in Super Msrio World and in Yoshi.  I don't see why he couldn't use a finger to point, if that's really what he's doing...
